A Grey Capsule Wardrobe with Grey Accessories

January 13, 2015 Monochromatic dressing seems to be an idea that meets a lot of resistance, and I'm not sure why; it's the easiest way to dress, and it can look very elegant and sleek. I think the key to keeping monochromatic outfits from looking drab is to incorporate texture or pattern into the mix to give a little bit of visual interest. With accessories this cool, no outfit is going to look dull! This woman has grey hair, silvery eyes, a cutting wit, and a very busy agenda - if you make the mistake of thinking of her as "senior citizen", it will be a mistake you only make once!

A Black Wardrobe, with Silver, Aluminum and Grit

January 5, 2015 This is certainly not a style for just everyone, but I know a couple of women who wear this very urban, industrial style, and who carry it off with great panache! (Imagine a woman with silver grey hair, cut in a very short, angular style. Chiseled cheekbones, a slash of red lipstick...) One of the things that we have to remember about a unique personal style is that it is, by definition, not for everybody. Realistically, it shouldn't be for ANYBODY other than you. It's hard to chart your own path, style-wise, but feeling quintessentially like yourself can be an amazing sensation...

February 15, 2014 This beautiful work is Abstract, by Nicolas de Stael, and these cool, subtle colors are amazing for the upcoming summer. First, I'm looking for a neutral from within this painting. If you're comfortable wearing white, or if you have a good relationship with your dry cleaner, I would start with the crisp clarity of white for the initial four summer garments. Sandals that pair white with silver, and some silver loafers, might be all the change you need to update your existing wardrobe in this direction. December 31, 2013 Sometimes we're confronted with an invitation that strongly suggests that we get super dressed up. EEEEEK.... If you're sure that it's absolutely obligatory that you dress to the teeth, just brace yourself and go shopping. From Desk to Dinner Party: Incorporating Metallics in a Neutral Wardrobe

Some people just don't feel comfortable wearing bright colors, or colors that extend much beyond their chosen neutrals, and they've been despairing that there was no way for them to be sufficiently dressy for after-work activities. My suggestion - don't underestimate the effect that a metallic colored or finished top can bring to your everyday clothes!These, again, are three of the "suit-like" looks that I used a few days ago. Chic Sightings: Black with Metallic Accessories

There were lots of black dresses on the streets of Chicago yesterday, and lots of all-black outfits. But a few really stood out from the crowd by virtual of their carefully chosen metallic accessories. From the young lady in the spikey necklace and woven flats to the executive with her Ferragamo shoes and bag, (and great silver sunglasses), black and silver caught the eye.

The first woman I saw who really got me noticing the all-black outfits with metallics was wearing a simple sleeveless top with shorts, but her accessories really elevated what might have been a very stark outfit. Right behind her was a lovely person in a sleeveless dress with gold flower jewelry - uncluttered, but very charming.
