Ah, we're all pretty interested in how to shift from warm weather to cool. Even if it's not yet time to actually WEAR cool-weather clothes, it's nice to have a plan in which we can do a bit of shopping and look forward. So starting in August, we have this wardrobe:
Sleeveless and shorts seem like natural items to phase out (although that sleeveless navy top, with the navy cardigan, really is 12 month...). So these would be the garments that would be slowing down:

Let's go back and visit our friend who loves black, white and pink. She has a black suit - remember? and I suspect that she has a simple black sweater to wear with her black cardigan. And she wouldn't be a real lover of pink if she doesn't have a pretty pink blouse. Since she owns black pants, a pair of black loafers would certainly be included. Okay, let's do some imagining... Imagine a person who has truly made the choice that their wardrobe core colors are going to be black, white, and pretty pink. Over the years, she accumulates the necessary basics - cardigans in her colors, a black suit, shoes and sandals in black, with a fun pair of pink dress shoes, just for kicks. She has a beautiful pink scarf that has been around forever, and she has been carefully, gradually accumulating pink and silver jewelry...

Sometime back, someone asked me if it would be possible to put together a Common Capsule Wardrobe that would include neither black nor white.
Of course! Pretty much anything is possible with clothing - my first idea was to work with simple navy and pink garments, while keeping a bit of grey and khaki. While you couldn't wear every last possible sort of accessory with these colors, you would still have a great many options...

Yes, traveling with white pants might seem sort of nutty... But they look really great! Just make sure they're washable, right? And this would certainly work well with black in the place of white.

The conversation about red jeans quickly turned into questions about jeans in other colors... so here I've played around with a pair of pink jeans, to explore the possibilities. And may I just rant for a moment about the ubiquity of "skinny jeans"? In a civilization in which obesity and weight issues are so common, I find it absolutely bizarre that it's nearly impossible to find plain old regular jeans. Not "mom" jeans, but not leggings, either. Do you really want to look like an egg balanced on toothpicks? sigh...
