A few people are still longing for summer clothes - I'm sorry, but they're getting to be SO hard to find in stores. As I may have mentioned in the past, I don't like to show you anything that isn't available in the full range of colors and sizes - why taunt you with things you can't have if you really want them? Thus, summer clothes are becoming difficult to share...
And a LOT of retailers are only bringing into stock the bare minimum of styles and colors for cooler weather - WHAT FUN IS THAT? We're stuck inside for most of our time, and we need cheer. Color! Brightness! Variety!
With that in mind, I'm sharing some lovely cashmere sweaters with you, along with a few other accessories to give you little accessory ... View the Post

You wanted more of this scarf, and who could blame us? It's just THAT pretty...
And it appears to be back in stock at a few places that were sold out last week, when we first looked at this lovely thing...
Specifically, you wanted some brighter colors! So I kept a couple of the white garments that I used before, but I bumped up the accent colors quite a few notches:
As always, when I'm at a loss as to what the best shoe color might be, I choose a metallic accent! Of course, it would be possible to have blue shoes, and rose shoes etc. etc.... I'm not telling you that this is a bad idea!
Coral and white feels perfect for late summer, doesn't it?
And I personally love both of these shades of blue; ... View the Post
August 21, 2020 Ultimate Job Security...
She's a little bit steamed right now; she doesn't want to travel, but that ONE office that always has issues with their computer network... is having... you guessed it.... ISSUES WITH THEIR COMPUTER NETWORK.
She tried to talk them through the fix. She drew pictures. She wrote checklists. She photographed the computers in THEIR office and put little notes on the photograph to show them what to do.
Not happening.
So she's headed there... against her best judgment and preferences. And she's seeing red...
(okay, maybe it's orange!)
She loves her new bracelet - the knot charm reminds her of the linking and integration that she loves so much in computer networking. So she's using ... View the Post
August 20, 2020 We're ALL Going to be Home... For most of the winter. The kids are being amazingly disciplined about schooling remotely; they're old enough that they understand that education matters...
Her sweetheart has taken over the desk in the dining area, and so she's working in the basement. The kids are all in their own rooms, except when they need legitimate help with something...
She thought she was getting prepared; she started sorting out warm clothes. They've all agreed (all FIVE of them!) that they're going to try to keep the house as cool as they can tolerate, in order to save energy and money. With 5 computers running, at least there will be some warmth...
Still, this is what fall means to her. Back to school is ... View the Post

One of you has had a moment of serious whappage, and asked for my opinion...
This is the scarf in question - it's SO pretty that I might be tempted to buy it and figure out how to wear it later; THAT'S not the cleverest way to shop!
Oh my HEART - this scarf screams summer in so many different ways....
Our heroine has been invited to go along with her spouse to a fishing cabin that's walking distance to a very charming little town. While she won't be doing any fishing, she WILL be sitting outdoors reading, walking into town to browse about, and probably doing a bit of walking on the trail around the lake. Sounds lovely, doesn't it?
My approach for her is to assemble 3 little clusters, based on the ... View the Post

One last look at this seemingly massive wardrobe. It's funny how gigantic this seems when I'm trying to squeeze everything onto a page! In reality, most of the world would be thrilled to have this much clothing, but I suspect many of us have a lot more than this!
Bring out the magnifying glasses, everyone!
As I sorted through this mass of goodies, my thinking was "what would I take with me if I got to go to ____ for a year?"
My blank is probably going to be filled in by Ireland, or Paris, as I'm sure you're shocked to hear. But I think that many of us might be able to test-drive this kind of possibility. Maybe it's just a chance to live someplace where COVID-19 restrictions aren't quite as erratic and ... View the Post

For some reason, I would have thought that I would be getting more read during the great plague of 2020... but I'm still doing quite a bit of reading!
And I've got a STACK of things waiting for me...
Let's talk about what we're reading, what we've got on our lists, shall we?
At the beginning of the pandemic, I for some odd reason decided to re-read BOTH Dorothy Dunnett series - The Lymond Chronicles and The House of Niccolo. The Lymond Chronicles come first - not chronologically, but logically. It makes very little sense, since Lymond is supposed to be an ancestor of Niccolo, but I'm not going to argue with anybody who can write novels like this!
The Lymond Chronicles are SIX novels, and House of ... View the Post

These are tough times for lots of us; bloggers are no exception! So we're banding together to try to give a boost to our friends and fellow writers. Today, I have the unalloyed pleasure of bringing Pam Lutrell and her blog - Over 50, Feeling 40 - to your life (if you haven't already found her!).
I met Pam a few years ago when she visited Chicago, and she's just as lovely in person as she is on her blog! (She's actually prettier in person, which seems almost impossible...)
Thus, with no further blahblahblah from me, let's hear from Pam!
love,
Janice

August 13, 2020 I Need to do WHAT??? Yes, she's missed 6 months in the office (although she has worked EVERY DAY...) and now she has to sit for a re-certification...
It takes 3 days. Away from home. In a hotel.
After being locked up with her entire family for half a year, she's really excited! The whole test thing isn't fun, but being able to eat room service and lounge around alone in the evenings has a certain appeal...
She starts with her favorite "travel inspiration" painting:
She knows that she could just wear sweatpants the entire time, but she actually feels more awake and more businesslike if she dresses a bit nicer than that. And she doesn't want to have to do much thinking about what she will wear! This is her ... View the Post

It's the biggest event of the year, for bloggers. Nordstrom having a sale is kind of big news in the retail/style industries, but for bloggers it's more than just a big sale. Nordstrom is probably the most generous retailer to bloggers - their commissions are substantial...
And that's why you're going to see lots of people talking about this sale in the next couple of weeks!
I always have mixed feelings about all of this; I don't suspect that you all believe that I'm writing The Vivienne Files just for the karmic bonuses that I earn from trying to be entertaining and helpful!
But I don't like to recommend things to you just because I make money, or just because things are on sale. Often, sale merchandise is stuff ... View the Post

Ah, winter... My favorite season, with my favorite clothes!
Let's look back - our mythical heroine has chosen this Weekly Timeless Wardrobe as her starting point:
And she's very smitten with camel, right now. So she's going to supplement her 13-piece wardrobe with these additional seven pieces - they give her a refreshed color palette, and a lot of new options:
Our heroine is thus starting her winter with these 20 garments (and, of course all of the other garments from the 3 other seasons!):
So let's assemble, for our heroine, a half-dozen representative outfits from this wardrobe, and add some accessories to each outfit!
First up - WARMTH! I can vouch for the waterproof, comfortable warmth of ... View the Post
