An Unconventional Woman That's how she thinks of herself. She knows that she has been described as such, more than a few times! And that's when people are being nice...
Now that she's retired, she is embracing her uniqueness, starting with her wardrobe, but branching out in all kinds of ways...
She's the person who goes into the city for a long weekend when the Natural History Museum gets a new exhibit of fossils...
She attends all of the opera world premiers, no matter HOW weird the music is reputed to be. If it's unusual, she figures she has a good chance of having fun!
She is beloved as a supporter of new artists and musicians. She will try any dish in any new restaurant. It's just the ... View the Post

Let's see what our other 3 heroines have going on in their wardrobes...
Our first heroine's wardrobe from last month was 23 pieces that gave her a good range of options...
This heroine was thinking of another skirt; as much as she loves her navy one, she would like one in olive! And while she's at it, she just wants to fill in some more olive in her wardrobe.
And she knows that if she wants olive tall boots, she'd better get on it!
I know that it seems really early to look at tall boots, but if you need a pair, don't delay! You'd be amazed at how many pairs of boots I almost added to these wardrobes, only to find that they're already sold out in a lot of sizes... sheesh!
This is what our heroine ... View the Post

My favorite work every month! This, to me, is the closest The Vivienne Files can get to showing how a real wardrobe might grow, month by month. If we all (I mean ALL) carefully planned our purchases to be versatile AND to endure, we could eliminate a lot of waste in the world. At least we should try, eh?
Last month, we left our heroine with a wardrobe of 23 garments; it's pretty well balanced, except she might be challenged to wear her dress in cooler weather.
Tights and a sweater will get her through, of course, but maybe a skirt would be useful...
This heroine added another grey tee shirt to her wardrobe; the shirt she has is pretty sporty, and she thought a more classic one would be useful. ... View the Post

One of a Kind...
After she saw the 3rd corporate "campus" with beehives, she realized that she is qualified for a job that nobody has ever thought of - corporate pollinator consultant!
If companies are going to have big lawns, and ponds, and flower beds, they may as well put some pollinators in there to keep it all regenerating and... real - right?
So now she travels about, visiting corporate campuses (a term she really doesn't love), helping get beehives installed, and advising the gardening company about replacing plants. Strictly ornamental isn't nearly as sensible as something that's both decorative AND good for the environment...
It's not a really outdoorsy job - she is more likely to meet ... View the Post

She's the Only One... Well, the only one she knows! When someone wants to purchase a painting - or paintings - that include horses, she's the expert...
She's off for a few days to visit a new race course; they want the Private Lounge to have a modern, but still equestrian, feel...
She's going to try to encourage them to buy some more modern art; she's not at ALL sure that she will be successful!
Her approach is going to be relaxed, and she will try to emphasize that these paintings aren't at ALL edgy. Many of them are over 100 years old - that's not exactly cutting edge!
She knows of a number of racing facilities in Europe that have included VERY modern art in their décor; sometimes that's ... View the Post

She loves this painting - it's what she does, in a way...
So when she travels - which is often - she uses these colors as her palette for assembling her travel capsule wardrobe:
Another Gala Opening Night She designs the flowers that lurk around on all of the occasional tables, grace all of the dining tables, and fill in the odd spaces around the museum...
She doesn't actually arrange the flowers - the local florists take care of that...
But she has spent the last 2 or 3 months designing the arrangements - making sure to use flowers and plants that are in some way symbolically associated with the theme of the current fete...
For example - her current work is at an exhibit of Grecian art, ... View the Post

Her favorite painting...
And her easy, classic color palette:
A Weekend Trip, For Falling in Love "If you don't get a much better guitar, you're not really going to progress a lot more. You're doing so well; I'd like to see you get a really good instrument..."
"If you go into the city, I can arrange for you to go the really GOOD guitar makers, and play as many instruments as you want."
The print tee has matching pants, a scarf, and a camp shirt...
"You'll know when you find the right one..."
So she's going away for the weekend, to do all of the usual visitor things - dine, sightsee, maybe a museum or two...
But mostly to play guitars, and to find one with which she falls in ... View the Post

Three more heroines with unique wardrobes, and unique shopping goals!
When we last visited her wardrobe, our heroine had lovely colors, and some great clothes, BUT...
She has no shorts! (yes, for some of us that isn't a problem!) She only has 5 black garments, and black is supposed to be her core neutral, and she bought a lovely pink cardigan, and did NOT buy the matching vest... (please note, Alex Mill is having a sale! That's not something they often do.)
So she shops! Black sandals and a black tote are logical items for her to have FOREVER, and a black bracelet with a heart that matches her heart earrings and necklace just plain makes sense.
Her updated wardrobe doesn't really look different - ... View the Post

Our heroines are filling in gaps and rescuing wardrobe orphans this month!
Let's start with our fair and blond heroine... (at least that's how I imagine her - your may see her differently!)
When we left our heroine last month, this was her 20-piece capsule wardrobe:
Our heroine has been thinking for a while that she is overdue to add some yellow to her wardrobe! It's worth mentioning that you can change your color palette if you find that you've included an accent color that doesn't feel right to you... but our heroine is going to give yellow a try!
And she doesn't have a pair of shorts! She's not one to wear shorts frequently, but a whimsical pair might be useful for her. So she shops, and this is what ... View the Post

I love Rothko - it's hard to understand unless you've seen one in person... Even then, his paintings may not be your thing!
"Skills Enhancement" A fancy way to say "we're sending you to the main office to take a cram course in new software."
The main office is somewhat dressy... So our heroine is planning...
She's starting here:
She knows that starting with a suit - even if she wears the blazer separate from the pants - is always smart for business travel:
She's pretty sure that she's okay wearing a cardigan, if she wears a skirt with it...
She's hopeful that tales of the formality of the headquarters have been exaggerated, but she's not taking any chances! If your company is willing to spend ... View the Post

She's got to stop at the home office for a few hours, but then she's spending the weekend in the city!
Unsure of what she wanted to pack/wear, she browsed through her saved collection of paintings on her phone, and found this:
Suddenly, she's inspired!
She can wear black and blue to the office (she often feels like she's been beaten by the time she gets out of there, so black and blue is appropriate!), and then pack a few things to wear for sightseeing and dining...
She expects that it will be pretty warm, but also that she will run into some brutal air conditioning - especially in museums!
Her wardrobe covers her for business (just in case she has to go BACK TO THE OFFICE on Saturday - ... View the Post
