Capsule Wardrobe 2013 accent: Dusk Blue, casual

Pantone, bless their silly hearts, actually gave us TEN "new" colors for Spring and Summer 2013.  Now we, as wise humans, understand that you can't invent a color, but we also appreciate that the Pantone nod of approval means that these colors will be available in stores.  So if we're considering a new accent color for 2013, we are going to have choices...Dusk blue is pretty, versatile, flattering to most of us, and easy to mix with your current core wardrobe.

Emerald and A Common Office Wardrobe

One thing we know for a fact: there will NOT be fashion police, running around the world with Pantone swatches, enforcing the "fidelity" of every green item that's manufactured during 2013. And for us, that's good news, because this means that there will be a variety of... interpretations... of "emerald" available to purchase. If the authentic emerald isn't your best green, you will still have lots of options available, if you choose to explore the possibilities of green in your wardrobe.

Emerald, and A Common Capsule Wardrobe

To great fanfare, 2013's "color of the year" has been announced, and it's the very easy-to-wear emerald!  Emerald's particularly "neutral" to most capsule wardrobes, because it's a perfect balance of yellow and blue i.e. a perfect balance of warm and cool.  This means, theoretically, that pretty much everybody should be able to wear it without looking ghastly...First off, let me make it perfectly clear that if you don't LIKE green (okay, LOVE it), you don't have to participate in this little marketing-driven pseudo-trend.  Green becomes the color of the year when everybody is TOLD that it's the color of the year, and then they all buy it, and voila, the prediction comes true.  Heaven knows that I didn't participate in ... 75/25: A Common Capsule Wardrobe, and Signature Red

Originally, where I thought I was going with the idea of a common capsule wardrobe was to show that a wardrobe of 75% neutral, basic, "work horse" garments could be made unique and extremely versatile using 25% "signature" garments.  We all got swept up in a tide of great accessories, and I lost track of where I was headed!  But now I've returned to my original idea: the Common Capsule Wardrobe, with 4 "accent" garments, and some accent accessories...Does it go without saying that you could wear one of these outfits, pack the rest of the garments, and be in good shape for quite a long trip?

A Common Office Capsule Wardrobe, with grey

There are still LOTS of women who work in conservative office environments, and who must dress accordingly.  However, these classic colors and cuts are anything but boring or limiting... they are, in fact, a brilliant springboard for all variety of accessories.Monday, these twelve garments are going to magically become a Capsule Wardrobe Project 333 in navy and grey - stay tuned!
