Her approach is going to be relaxed, and she will try to emphasize that these paintings aren’t at ALL edgy. Many of them are over 100 years old – that’s not exactly cutting edge!
She knows of a number of racing facilities in Europe that have included VERY modern art in their décor; sometimes that’s helpful, other times it can turn someone completely OFF of the idea…
They may be afraid that their patrons will find modern art… challenging.
Some people just don’t deserve nice things!

I love pink and navy….I’d love to see this same idea with a richer pink. Perhaps a non-neon hot pink?
This is a lovely business wardrobe but sweaters in July don’t make sense to me. I usually struggle in the summer to look professional in the heat. I wonder what this heroine would wear if there was a heat wave when she was headed there?
I personally love short sleeve sweaters. J. Crew Factory had a navy and off-white striped linen/cotton one that would be nice and cool and go with all her bottoms. Or if our heroine is utterly wedded to the cables, they have a short sleeve cable striped sweater (but with a pocket, so not sure if that makes it too casual) in navy, pale blue, or ivory.
I wear sweaters and blazers year round in air conditioning, but I have to agree this wardrobe is too heavy. I have two of those sweaters from LL Bean and a J Crew sweater blazer and they’re much too warm for even the most aggressive air conditioning.
I’m loving the blue and pink, particularly the floral dress. However, I’m also wondering where our heroine is going with long sleeves, two cable jumper/cardigan and a jacket in July! Perhaps she has been warned that that the room will have fierce air con. I’d probably pack a thin cardigan or wrap to wear with the dress.

I can’t really do much more posting about hot weather, because I’m struggling to find true hot weather clothing! I refuse to show anything that’s about to sell out, or that’s only available in 2 sizes, because it’s not fair to someone who sees something they REALLY want… I end up fielding emails all day to help my friends find the shoes (tee shirt, dress etc.) in their size. The fashion seasons don’t resemble weather OR climate in any helpful way!

This post puts me in mind of a wonderful book that I read recently: Horse by Geraldine Brooks. She’s an amazing writer and the book deals with horses (and paintings of horses) and the intersection of slavery with horse racing. Fascinating fictionalized cultural history. Highly recommended!
Great wardrobe – I think it would work especially well in the Spring and Fall and cool summer/A/C days. Pink and navy is a wonderfully wearable colour combination.

This is a beautiful color palette executed with some lovely pieces; even though I hate the dress personally, I can see why it was chosen. The light blue shawl-neck top is a surprise favorite in this capsule. I also love the sea life scarf (an unexpected choice of motif but utterly perfect color scheme). I will say that if we ever have encountered a heroine who should have horse bit loafers, this is the one!
Sally, the best loafers I saw with horse bits were about $600… I couldn’t do it! But you DO think the way I do… The scarf was strictly for the colors – I looked at dozens of horse-themed scarves and none of them were the right colors!

I appreciate that a $600 pair of loafers, however perfect in theory, is not a recommendation one wants to make not being able to personally attest to their quality! I loved the wild card of the sea life scarf – it added to my sense that the heroine is a fan of many types of animal life.
Janice, thank you so much for this great idea. This is a wonderful inspiration for my upcoming business trip to Tokyo. Yes, of course it is going to be too hot to go for long sleeves there in late August, but the colours and style are so nice! I will just simply switch to short sleeves and linen for the trip and look forward to wearing the original set in late summer when I am back in Germany.
