Beautiful bracelets!
Another Eccentric Aunt
She invited to her nephew’s wedding! She’s been assured that it’s going to be just a little bit dressy, whatever that means…
She is devoted to wearing beige and ivory as her neutral colors, but she also enjoys tossing a wide range of accent colors into her wardrobe to keep things spicy!
For her upcoming long weekend, she’s chosen these bracelets to inspire her:
For the trip, she’s going to wear a nice calm shade of apricot with her beige, to channel a quiet and relaxing trip. She’s also layering a long-sleeved shirt and a cardigan, because it has been her experience that the train is air-conditioned to a terrifying chill…
There is no rehearsal – just dinner the night before the wedding; she will be dressed just fine for dinner in her travel outfit. That’s ONE event for which she needn’t plan too much…
But for the wedding? She’s going all-out, in something not unlike silk pajamas, only MUCH snazzier, and with a nice swish for dancing!
She packs an extra teal top, to wear with her silk pants, as well as beige shorts and a beige cardigan. Her last item is a yellow tee shirt, which will be lovely with beige…
They aren’t necessarily colors that you expect to see together in a tiny travel capsule wardrobe, but they actually come together and give her enough options for the time she’s away…
What about that touch of deep red in her bracelet? Check out her manicure and pedicure…
love,
Janice
p.s. Eight years ago, we studied the possibilities inherent in the “Whatever’s Clean” travel capsule wardrobe concept. I still love this wardrobe…

Wow. Some colors perfect for a spring. Lightened up the green to a leaf green and have some great suggestions to look in my closet to find. Thanks for the lighter colors.

Same thoughts! I’d jump on that melon shirt & cardigan and yellow tee.

This is just beautiful. OMG. Makes me wish my son and his fiancee were getting married this year and that outfit was something I could wear (I think they will be very casual). The shades are quite what I wear, but pretty darn close. Absolutely love this. And since we will be traveling by rail this summer, it was nice to know about the air conditioning on trains – I’ll have to throw in a ruana for comfy coverage – I always take them on planes. Just an amazing way to start the week. Thank you Janice!

are not quite what I wear – jheez. early morning typing.

Where is link to this bracelet? Did I miss it?
LOVE this color combo!

Sorry Liz. The link is working for the bracelet now!

Thank you!

I think the bracelet link is broken.

This hangs together so well. I can see where you could have kept going with outfits. The scarf is exceptionally functional with these pieces.
I took a close look at the teal print. Maybe, jus maybe, that is blood red in the print. But with websites, it’s hard to tell.
I could make serious use of the melon shirt and cardi and the yellow.

Janice,
Teal as a major dark color in a grouping for Summer ! You have just expanded my Summer basics, along with the beige of course ! And Apricot and yellow with it — I’m in love ! And seeing this right before I pack for a long weekend away ! Maybe workin some olive green too ? Thank you, thank you !
Shrebee says
Make that working ,not workin .

Wow. This is *almost* my color palette for our family vacation to New Mexico in October. Teal, rust, navy (of course!), and denim. I am on a no spend for May, but I put this bracelet in my cart and will order it June 1st if it is still available.

That is SUCH a pretty bracelet! Teal and orange is a wonderful complementary color combo, and the pops of yellow and burgundy are great. I like this color palette for a travel wardrobe too, though some of the pieces are definitely not my style. I always recoil from the beige LL Bean cotton pants/shorts as they have the most fuddy-duddy associations for me. (I’m sure they look just fine, but I would hate wearing them because they feel very “unstylish grandma circa 1985” to me.) I would also never wear loafers with the cropped pants; something about the high vamp seems wrong with such short pants, though on a person with the right skin tone, that’s mitigated by the “nude to our heroine” effect. But I like the apricot items and love the teal ones! The ivory beads in the bracelet needn’t be paired with an ivory/beige neutral, so I could easily see substituting a different neutral into the capsule…probably navy/chambray in my case.

Beautiful! I want to toss everything in my closet and start over with this!!!
Thank you for what you do !!!

So lovely! Not quite my style as other have said, but as usual: never say never until you see Janice’s magic! I apply this to color combinations too. After my comment from last week on disliking red and yellow, just remembered that there’s a post with a light yellow outfit and red accessories that I did like!
Cheers and a happy week to everyone!

I have some shiny teal fabric that I was planning to make into pants like that but haven’t been sure. Now you have sold me on it!!! And given me some ideas of what to pair with it. That was my other conundrum. Perhaps that could be another post. Just like you’ve done one garment and different ways to style it.

The tunic and pants are lovely and would be so versatile in a wardrobe. We have been to three weddings recently and have another in September. One was in TX, one in IN and one in PA. All at different times of the year and all of varying degrees of formality. Ladies anything goes. As someone pointed out “formal” means different things at different ages. Unless you are told that Black Tie is the dress code, wear what you feel good in. Personally I think one could wear this wedding outfit and call it Hollywood Glam! Can’t you see Lauren Bacall in it? I shopped my closet for each and received compliments from old and young. I read TVF and look at Pintrest for ideas. For the PA wedding, which was this month, I wore a 10 year old taupe colored sleeveless maxi dress that is basically a tee shirt with lace overlay. I put a pale pink sweater over it and added comfy nude sandals and pearl and crystal bracelets. All night people commented on my lovely “skirt”. Intend to do the same for the fall wedding. Reception will be outside under a tent so outfit will depend on temps!

Forgot to say that the most interesting thing was they all had “flower men”!! I guess since they did not have ushers but had extra brothers/friends they got a new job. The first time it seemed odd but as a much younger relative said “thinking outside the box” all wore fanny packs and threw rose petals. And none of the groups know anyone from the other so I guess this is a thing.

I went to a wedding in which there were bridesmaids and bridesmen – the bride had male friends that she couldn’t bear to leave out of the wedding!
Bless these young people…
hugs,
Janice

With the exception of the maid of honor and best man we had couples stand on each side because I wanted my brother and his wife on my side and my husband wanted his brother and sister with him. It was great!
Claire Oman says
My husband’s best friend wanted both of us to stand with him at his wedding, almost 10 years ago! I wore a lace dress that matched the maid of honor with a blazer that matched my husband’s suit. It really confused the venue organisers though, apparently they’d never seen it done. Nice to hear things are getting a bit less rigid!

The colours are pretty although the teal is a bit dark on my screen. And much as I love the cardigans and the teal scarf, there is something about the stone pants that feels off. I love light slacks and have at least 2 pair of pale stone myself, so perhaps it may just be that LL Bean has a ‘bad’ picture? As for weddings, I went to one where MOB grudgingly wore an elegant silver gown until the minute ceremony ended. She put on Daisy Duke cut-offs with a middy tee and biker boots and one of those weird wallet chain things. It was certainly unusual.

This is such a sophisticated color palette for a capsule. Thank you!

This post is so timely for me as, this past Saturday, I wore deep teal as the MOG. The bridal party were in various shades of green and gray. Since my son’s favorite color is orange, his lovely bride surprised him by adding orange roses to the cake, bouquets, and boutonnieres and I chose a coppery orange metallic for my manicure.
