Let’s just look at some pretty things, eh?
I ended up arranging things by color/mood, because they seemed to look good on the page like that!
Something like this, assembled with appropriate links or information, might make gift shopping easier for those who want to get you something that you really love this winter…
My first love here was the scarf. Or maybe the bracelet. It could have been the ring, too…

Scarf – Hive Atelier; sapphire earrings – Artisan; pearl necklace – Valerie Chic; bakelite bracelet – Artisan; pink tourmaline ring – Artisan; bag – Ostara; blue tiger eye necklace – Aracheli Studio
I have one of these little rectangle necklaces from Carved. They’re lovely – very well made, and VERY affordable. And they come in dozens of colors… Take a look!
Scarf – Otto & Spike; rosemary earrings – The Met Store; gold ball earrings – Tory Burch; Orvel necklace – Carved; tote bag – Betsy & Floss; American Folk Art landscape scarf – The Met Store; leather bracelet – Coccinelle
This scarf delights me – I could imagine folding and tying it in a couple of different ways to show the purple/pink corner, or the yellow/green corner…
And the rainbow stone toggle on the pearl necklace… sigh…
Scarf – Madeleine Simon Studio; pink and pearl earrings – J.Crew; heart pendant – Smilla Brav; aquamarine bracelet – Shar Oke; butterfly brooch – Fable England; blush bag – Campo Marzio; pearl necklace with rainbow stones toggle – Haze & Glory
Someone could hand me all seven of these pink/ruby things…
Scarf – Susi Bellamy; earrings – Kendra Scott; purple jade necklace – Smilla Brav; ruby & diamond bracelet – Share Oke; bag – Brahmin; heart necklace – Loca; wool scarf – Otto & Spike
The unifying theme here was warm, and angular, and it’s hard to explain…
Scarf – Otto & Spike; labradorite earrings – Joanna Buchanan; bee brooch – Joanna Buchanan; golden abalone necklace – Kendra Scott; pave diamond bracelet – Artisan; bag – J.Crew; sampler scarf – The Met Store
I really wanted to share both pairs of earrings with you…
Round earrings – Haze & Glory; hoop earrings – Mel & Alecrim; amethyst and gold necklace – Ettika; hammered gold bracelet – Ottoman Hands; pearl and gold necklace – Haze & Glory; purple wrap – Nordstrom; bag – Sosster
This is the prettiest shade of green, and both pairs of earrings just delighted the heck out of me!
Aventurine necklace – Valerie Chic; stud earrings – Nordstrom; drop earrings – Ettika; bracelet – Fossil; cotton bandana – ichcha; backpack – The Dust Company; aventurine pendant – Nordstrom
If you like navy, and you like stars…
take a close look at the necklace in the bottom right corner – touching the stars!
Navy beaded scarf – The Met Store; single star earring – Bee Goddess; small gold star earrings – Zoe Chicco; shooting star pendant or charm – Gigi Clozeau; crescent moon bracelet – Latelita; square scarf – Myrtle & Mary; touch the stars pendant – Talon Jewelry
Were I to throw over my black wardrobe in favor of brown, I might start here! These wee brooches are WONDERFUL – much nicer than the price might suggest…
Silk bandana – Treasure & Bond; Muse of Music earrings – Tagliamonte; chain bracelet – Ted Baker; necklace – Isabel Marant; barn owl brooch – Fable England; red squirrel brooch – Fable England; tote – The Dust Company
More BLUE???? Why yes, it’s what I saw that caught my eye! The mosaic earrings and necklace are favorites…
Blue alpaca scarf – Inkanti; sapphire earrings – Saint Moran; mosaic earrings – Saachi; mosaic bracelet – Saachi; scribble print cotton scarf – Open Edit; bags – Gaucha Leather; blue agate necklace – A Blonde And Her Bag
Years and years ago, I suggested that we assemble our accessories into families, and then photograph them! Partly this is very helpful if (heaven forbid) you have to make an insurance claim and have to prove that you actually owned something. But it’s also a creative exercise!
love,
Janice
p.s. Eight years ago, we accessorized A Common Wardrobe (in grey and black, mostly) with 3 blue garments, a scarf and a pair of earrings! So much mileage for so few garments…

So many pretty things. My favorite of course is the labradorite. My favorite stone for years now. I have two labradorite rings I wear every day. I believe I first saw them on your blog – imagine that! That being said, there are numerous other pretty things here I think I could work into my wardrobe. Without even trying to hard. Guess that’s the good part of wearing many colors and not limiting myself (too much). I am still trying to cull the wardrobe and get rid of things I no longer wear – mostly because I’m tired of them as much as anything else. I’m lucky in that with the one boy in the Air Force I’ve been able to migrate non-seasonal things into his closet! Poor guy. Anyway, perfect way to end the week. Thank you Janice, and everyone have a good weekend! Love the Fable brooches.
Brenda Kinsel, a well-known wardrobe stylist from San Francisco, used to call these ‘accessory families’ and encouraged people to make them in order to make getting dressed easier.
I certainly picked that up from Brenda Kinsel. Right now I have a winter ‘Beauty Bundle’ of hand knitted blueish-aqua beanie, scarf & gloves and in the summer I have aqua sunhat, cotton scarf & very light aqua shirt to protect from the sun. When my accent colour changes maybe next winter then will my ‘Beauty Bundle’.
Grouping accessories together including duplicates (two blue scarves etc.) is really helpful when choosing what to wear. Photographing them all together is a great idea.
Such treats. I LOVE the single star earring with gorgeous sapphires.
Delightful.
I am totally enchanted with these accessory capsules. What a terrific job you did with this!
I would scoop up at least five of these in a heartbeat. I would even make some judicious selections from the ones where the colours are not my friends. Sadly storage space and finances will not allow. I think I should try to curate what I already have and see if I can fall in love with some of my things again. I am becoming more and more attracted to the idea of small cohesive capsules.
Such pretty things indeed! I saw the blue first – teal blue? I have a teal green striped scarf. The blue agate pendant is a similar shape to a blue teal crystal pendant I have. You’ve given me an idea of how to wear it more often. I do like to wear pendants under a bead necklace. Now just to find a blue bead necklace. It’s an idea seen often in the portraits of Tudor women.
I’m sorting out my jewellery by colour, though not convinced that it’s the best way. Work in progress. Maybe I just have too much to wear! Creating a seasonal selection for six month circulation might work. I do this already with scarves and bags. 🤔
The pink tourmaline flower ring, the pearl necklaces and the butterfly ring are so pretty. Then I saw the ruby things…😍 Thank you for all you do. Hope you have a good weekend. I’m off to an antique, vintage and collectors fair. The hall has been extended this summer which means more stalls to peruse!
i love the scribble print scarf! Just my colors :)
Janice, how do I get to the blog post you mentioned in your p.s.?
Try clicking directly on the “eight years ago” instead of the whole p.s.
Have you noticed how difficult it is lately to find “pretty things” in silver tones?? For those of us who wear silver much better than gold, shopping is terrible these days. So many pretty things above… and none for my list, ugh!
