For those of us who really already have enough clothes, this can be a weirdly sad time of year. Lots of people are throwing themselves willy-nilly into pre-season sales (and buying some things that aren’t really all that nice…), and we just can’t justify buying yet another black skirt, or pair of navy pants…
But we can buy accents and accessories!
Like this deeply, profoundly beautiful scarf:
I think this scarf is so beautiful that I gave it it’s own page!
But that’s just the start – I think that this lace collar is so pretty; I can see it over a crew-neck sweater or dress is any number of colors…
For those of us who really love purple, there are so beautiful scarves available. And I am intrigued by the idea of a whimsical small handbag for those times when you really only need keys, phone and a credit card. Sostter has a few different ones, including one that looks like a chocolate bar!
Here’s where I can see myself indulging in something that I would keep for the rest of my life – picture one of these over a simple black dress or a black top and pants…
Maybe you’re in the mood for embroidery or crochet… (if the crocheted cardigan came in black, it would be IN MY CLOSET yesterday…)
All of the heroines who wear navy deserve gorgeous accessories – why not a beaded scarf with stars and moons on it?
This isn’t really intended to be an outfit, but I’m not your mother, so you may wear them together if you wish! I just love the idea of a sweatshirt with a tie neckline…
Maybe you live somewhere that requires summer-ish clothing for much of the year – there’s still plenty to enjoy. J.Crew just recently got in a LOT of pretty green and orange things – both colors that can be hard to find…
Sometimes, you have all of the clothes you need or want, but you wouldn’t mind a new piece of jewelry (or two)…
Here’s where I could get into a LOT of trouble!
The style name of the shoes? Vivienne. I think that is significant…
Shoes called Vivienne MUST be meant for me, right?
love,
Janice
p.s. Five years ago, our heroine could sleep anywhere, including sitting upright in the middle seat of Coach Class…

Such beautiful things! I can only look and dream…

I like to think of it as “educating my eye(s)” to be able to spot pretty things in a mountain of averageness. It makes thrift stores MUCH more interesting when you’re the genius that can find the hidden gems…

Taken from the item description of the Vivienne shoes: “The Vivienne is the perfect brogue for the style maker who knows who she is and isn’t afraid to “Step Out of Line.””. Based on the name and that description, it seems only appropriate that our own style maker has those shoes!
What a lovely selection of beautiful things. They made me smile this Monday morning.

Um… yeah. From the Wolf and Badger item description – The Vivienne is the perfect brogue for the style maker who knows who she is and isn’t afraid to “Step Out of Line.”
Sounds just like my favorite blogger! (And I love the tapestry – it’s like wearing fine art! I’d be grinning from ear to ear every time I looked at my feet!)

I have a scarf very similar to the one you’re featuring only with pink peonies on it. In fact, you may have featured it awhile back and I bought it from your link. I love peonies and the scarf is everything. The right shade of orange actually suits me, but it’s hard to find. Heading to the J.Crew website next! Have a lovely week.

I suspect the cashmere Henley from J Crew will sell fast. (I’m noting that truly classic cuts are selling out fast…could this be the end of the romantic rage where the designers put ruffles on the ruffles?)
The triceratops handbag might have totally snagged me in a color I actually wear. Love it! Fresh green or coral or aqua would’ve been nearly impossible to resist.
The Vivienne oxfords are fabulous- I just don’t wear black any more. At all.

Just such lovey pieces. I’m sure every time they are added, they bring a smile.

I so look forward to reading your posts… not only how you weave a story but how you bring unique pieces together (who does not LOVE a good triceratops purse?!). I’ve gone on to buy some items you’ve written about – such as the Lynx bracelet – and have been well pleased. I would have not found these otherwise so just sending out a thanks.

I recently found out my mom has a cool velvety art inspired long jacket/cardigan like the ones above and she said I can borrow it anytime I need something fancy! I am so excited to come up with an event so I can wear it. :)

Event heck – how about a Tuesday?

You’ve picked out so many pretty things. I love the scarves and the shoes and boots! Shoes like that would definitely be investment pieces due to the price, but they would be fun to style in so many ways. Thanks for sharing your ideas! – Amy

Oh,please! Buy the shoes! They literally have your name on them.

Oh the sage leaf cuff! (Not to mention the matching choker and earrings). Sadly not in my budget so you should buy the shoes then at least one of us will be happy!

When I was around 12, my mom and I saw a performer justify her extravagant look by saying “I like Pritty Thangs” in a distinctive southern drawl. It became our catch phrase and whenever we wanted to justify buying something we’d say “I like Pritty Thangs.” Your post was a joy and lovely reminder of a shared moment with my late mom. I hope you’ll do this again, because as you say, some of us have enough clothes but we can always use a few more pritty thangs.

Love the triple drop earrings from the Met, even if my metal allergy means I can’t wear them. But that just means that when I see a Pretty Thing that does work, then I can perhaps justify buying it. And, to be painfully honest, the next PT is likely to be a skein of yarn, specialty cross stitch fiber, cooking pan or best of all, a book. Celeste, that’s a lovely memory. Thank you for sharing it.

You most definitely should have those “Vivienne” shoes!!
Thanks for highlighting such beautiful accessories. I enjoy reading your blog posts.
Have a wonderful week and hopefully the shoes arrives soon.

Oh the Met Store jewelry is gorgeous! I love adding life and colour via scarves, jewelry and accessories. I don’t need any new clothes but a new silk scarf was added recently.

Thank you for this lovely post to make me want to sort out my own pretty things. It’s nice to be reminded of one’s choices.
Earlier this year, I tried to sort by colour but the colour groups didn’t fit the boxes I had. Work in progress to find a good solution instead of rummaging when I want to find anything. It did show me that pink is limited in my jewellery, although it is a colour I wear often.
Looking through your choices is a delight. I’ll give everything purple a home, particularly the butterfly scarves. The triceratops bag made me laugh – what fun would be had as an accessory for a glamourous outfit. It would make people do a double take as its head could be half hidden.
The velvet and brocade trimmed coats are in my dreams. A purple velvet coat over a beautiful dress would be mine – one day – for I already have the purple beaded bag to wear with it.
The embroidered cardigans are lovely. Though the one that is crocheted is in fact knitted with a crochet trim. Another contender for the “Most Misleading Item Description”.
A wardrobe is empty without a ridiculously fancy pair of shoes. Hope you give The Vivienne a home. The boots have my name on them. As for the tie-neck hoody – what a great idea for solving the scarf at the neck. Though I would like a contrasting material.
Once again you’ve given me new ideas to consider. Thank you.

I have neutral deep coloring and I love those purple items! You generate such fun – thank you!
