Was May the longest month ever?
Finally – the weather got warm! So I think that our heroines are going to need a couple of light tops, and a pair of shorts or cropped pants. Sandals, a bracelet, and a good tote bag will equip them for farmers’ market shopping or other errands…
This wardrobe remains coherent and versatile – which is our goal!
And I love these accessories!
Any time you buy ANY piece of clothing, your first project – before you take off any tags! – is to see how many different ways you can wear your new garment. If you can’t do at least 2 or 3 different things with a new purchase, you need to think VERY seriously about keeping it…
I still love this next scarf, but I ALWAYS love hydrangeas; the range of colors always astonishes me!
Our heroine has gone full-on feminine for hot weather!
Yes, I strongly recommend these pants – I have them in black and in white, and they are in the laundry EVERY week…
Our heroine’s new purchases make her wardrobe feel lighter and brighter…
And her accessories are SO pretty…
This heroine’s new purchases give her some lovely new options:
Do any of you really like the way brown and white look together? I have to admit that I’m really attracted to the 2 colors together…
Brown accessories… sigh…
I’m oddly drawn to this wardrobe…
It might be the accessories!
Everything here works so well together – finding new outfits is simple:
Full disclosure – the lovely people at PJ Studio Accessories GAVE me this next scarf, and it is more lovely than I would have imagined! Scarves are hard to fully appreciate, until and unless you get them in your hot little hands and touch them, look at them closely, drape them around your shoulders…
Now that I have a couple of brown garments, this scarf will be in HEAVY rotation; I see it tied to my handbag some day soon!
As much as I generally HATE logos on things, I have to admit that the subtle “C” woven into these Coach sandals is clever…
A wardrobe based in black that ISN’T all cool colors – who would have thought?
This is another wardrobe that I would wholesale adopt, if only to have the accessories! Owl earrings…
How do our heroine’s new clothes fit into her wardrobe?
Next, colors that are perfect in warm weather…
Don’t let the pursuit of perfect keep you from the achievement of very good – these sandals aren’t a perfect match for the top, but they’re plenty close enough!
This heroine has the option of subtle beige, or pretty bright colors:
And she has some really great accessories!
As the weather continues to warm up, she won’t have any trouble getting dressed each morning:
Let’s finish up with some chrysanthemums…
These tops weren’t hard to find – Boden made other of our blue tops, and L.L.Bean has been my go-to source for smoky lavender… ALWAYS look at a manufacturer for more items of a color that you find and love – the odds are pretty good that they made more than 1 thing in that color!
Opening a closet door to this wardrobe would be comforting…
And this heroine has all of the essential accessories!
It’s really nice to buy 3 new garments – essential for hot weather – and finding that you have at LEAST 8 new outfits (these 6, plus the 2 outfits that can be made with your new shorts and tops..)
Being efficient can be fun…
Is your favorite wardrobe still the same as last month?
I think I’m perma-smitten with the “Tree of Life” scarf wardrobe; brown and black might be a long-term thing for me…
love,
Janice
p.s. Four years ago, we were doing this same project, using Hermes scarves as our inspiration. We added dresses – and accessories – to the wardrobes that day…

Happy June, everyone! I look forward to the First of the Month and these delectable wardrobes. They are all looking very good, though one or two would benefit from some patterns
My ideal summer wardrobe is a combination of the Hydrangea and Chrysanthemum wardrobes with ivory, teal and salmon pink (my take on the Sampler wardrobe).
Lilac and orchid pink are coming to the fore in my wardrobe this summer. I’ve just bought an orchid pink dress and an ivory cardigan with lilac/periwinkle flowers. Putting my mini capsule together is very pleasing. I just need to buy some navy, chambray and grey linen trousers.
From tomorrow – Thursday to Sunday, I’m going all out to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with picnics, the Beacon Lighting, lunches, dinners, a village fete and a garden party! I’m planning my wardrobe which will be the summer colours that I love, mainly florals like the Queen favours. I’ll wear 1950’s jewellery.
Wendy says
Oh, how I would love to celebrate her Jubilee in Britain! Your weekend of events sounds absolutely marvellous. I hope you have a wonderful time!
Waving from Atlantic Canada! 👋🏻

And I would love to be in Atlantic Canada! I fell in love with Nova Scotia and remains one of my favorite places in the world!

Hi Beth! What a great weekend you have planned! Are you sure my invitation didn’t get lost in the mail haha

Every single one of these capsules hangs together beautifully. It takes diligence to put this together and I so appreciate it. Where else can you find such clear examples of function and elegance in clothing and accessories?
Bonus- two new Genius Gems from Janice we should keep posted when wardrobe planning and shopping. (I swear I should comb through all TVF posts and compile these.) ❤️

Janice, just a big thank you for doing what you do 👏

Happy June! I am working the Tree of Life to build my closet in a cohesive way. Thank you for the warm weather additions! Keep ‘em coming. I was able to travel last month and my packing was ever so much better. Thank you, Janice! Our destinations spanned beach and mountain so smart layers were the key. We fit into the rental car because of carry-on discipline, another VF gift. I hope this season brings you all many blessings and memories to cherish.

You’ve probably answered this a thousand times but where are links to all clothing and accessories? You have beautiful taste and I appreciate your effort. I have zero fashion sense, although I love clothes. You make my job easy putting together a cohesive and stylish wardrobe!
Kristi says
The links to the clothes that aren’t from today are in the original posts for each month. You can find them under the articles tab and search by date. She posts them around the first of each month.

Morning All, Originally I was following the Tree of Life, but the black and brown are too dark for me to sustain on a daily basis – I must have my color! I love the Ruskin’s Meadow and REALLY wish I’d bought the scarf while it was still available. I thought I could move into a more “neutral” wardrobe, but it just isn’t in me. We have a two day heat wave here (70’s) so today I’m wearing navy pants w/a lemon print, navy tank, and yellow sweatshirt…. hmmm yellow shoes? or navy? Thank you Janice for all the work you do pulling things together for us.
Wendy says
The hydrangea scarf’s navy, green and pale pinks and lavenders continues to call to me. I adore that you added some feminine touches this month with those lovely tops. It would be great to see a few more such pieces added to that wardrobe.
Thank you for Al you do, Janice!
Wendy says
**all** you do. (Oops! 🤦🏼♀️)

Don’t we just all love our wise friend Janice? Thank you for the gems you shared. I like ‘Being efficient can be fun.’ Very wise words. As for the wardrobes…really am still loving the white, sand, brown, teal, green and yellow from a few of them. I can’t settle on one as my colour tastes tend so heavily to certain colours. Oh and Beth T’s plans sound delightful…enjoy the 50s jewelry…am sure it will be smashing with your outfits.

The Gingko wardrobe is coming together so delightfully! I’ve been trying to move away from black towards brown and this wardrobe… oh, my! The turquoise/teal, yellow, and brown are scrumptious though I wish there was just a smidge of black and would love to see turquoise shoes this summer.

Janice,
Well done on all of the capsules, but of course I lean toward the brown, white ( stone in my case) , aqua , and golden yellow grouping .
Lesson learned when packing to go to the New Jersey coast ! While the weatherman informed of the highs of 70 one day to 90’s a few days later, that old sun felt a whole lot hotter on the coldest day ! I wish that I had switched out some of my garments for the cooler temps for those that would have been more appropriate for warmer temps. You can always add a layer, but it’s hard to get stuck with too warm clothes !
Hope you and yours had a great holiday weekend !
Shrebee says
Beth T,
Enjoy those celebrations ! What an amazing accomplishment of being a regent for 70 years — most of my lifetime ! Your colors sound feminine and lovely — enjoy !

I have to say I appreciate the difference between this year’s project and four years ago. This year started out very strong. The year’s end post mortem should be a breeze. Still loving Tree of Life. Just not wearing it. My fantasy wardrobe, I guess.
Sally in St Paul says
The beige sampler wardrobe is usually my favorite, but I really like June’s additions to the grey wardrobe and that peacefully muted grey capsule is my favorite today. Bringing the white into the navy wardrobe has caught my interest, though I would prefer brighter/more saturated accent colors with it.
Kristi says
I really love the colors of the ginko wardrobe! My own wardrobe is not quite these colors but features some of them. I just love how pretty they look together. Thanks Janice!
Barb says
It’s interesting that at the halfway point, my feelings about some of these wardrobes have changes. I was kind of ‘meh’ about the sampler and all those beige bottoms are still not doing it for me, but the wardrobe as a whole is suddenly much more appealing with the hits of pink and green.
The gingko collection is still such fun and very unexpected – maybe that’s why I like it so much.
The black and warm rusty brown I like but I’m not so sure about the green. However, I got a long cardigan in that reddish brown and it works really well with navy and grey so thank you for the hint!
The chrysanthemum pieces work really well together – it’s a bit muted for me personally but I love every piece in it.
I love how varied these are and how different ones speak to each of us. And it’s such fun to watch each month as the groupings grow and change! I’m already looking forward to July!
Linda P says
Hi Janice and Everyone! I love all of these combinations, really! I never thought much about brown for summertime but with white and turquoise it stands up quite well.
I think my favorite Janice quote for today is : “It’s really nice to buy 3 new garments, especially for hot weather”. I purged a bunch of clothing for various reasons when I switched my wardrobe to summer so I think I earned the space in keeping g with my ‘one in/one out’ philosophy. Or so I tell myself 😉
Wishing our friends across the pond a mahvelously festive weekend!
Susan says
I am following along with the hydrangea wardrobe. The new additions this month really firm up the direction this wardrobe is going, and I am tickled pink :)…so pretty. I have struggled with wearing flounces and puffed sleeves before, but these feminine details are done in such a refined and classy way that they don’t look silly on a mature woman. The pinks and greens are actually fairly saturated in real life (I shy away from bold colours and enjoy a soft summer palette), and I am finding them fresh and easy to incorporate into my wardrobe. As another said above…more like this please!
Lisa Laree says
Still catching up on the monthly additions… this is what I ended up with for June.
