Every Other Friday…
She packs up her travel wardrobe – the SAME wardrobe – and heads to the train station…
She always has a different destination – she’s becoming QUITE the expert on all of the interesting attractions of her area!
When she arrives, she always gets herself a lovely lunch, somewhere that lets her people-watch and get a feel for the town or city. After that – there are all KINDS of possibilities!
Sometimes she goes to a sporting event; you can’t get to know a small town better than to sit in the stands with people and help them cheer for the home team…
Or she goes to a museum or other similar place; if the weather is bad, that’s the place to be!
Saturday might be the day that she ventures out to the ruins of a castle, or abbey, or fort… That depends VERY much on the weather, of course!
Maybe she just walks the streets of the center of town, stopping for lunch, maybe stopping into a pub to share in the ritual watching of football…
If the town she is visiting is known for something particular, she may tour the factory, distillery, brewery, workshop or bakery! A bit of gift purchasing might be in her plans – especially late in the year!
Saturday dinner is always special. Not necessarily fancy, but the best food that the town has to offer. More than once, she has found herself sitting on a pier, eating seafood just out of the water!
Sunday, she may attend a worship service or other community gathering. She is open to so many possibilities…
Sunday lunch is often the official roasted meat at the pub, and then she’s back on the train home!
12 days later, she’s off again…
love,
Janice
p.s. Seven years ago, our heroine was traveling to the south of France and maybe Venice, with a travel capsule wardrobe of black and beige, and lots of lace!

The Ilona Tambour cats scarf is sublime. It is exquisite, dazzling, elegant! (Or maybe it’s just me being a crazy-cat-lady.😁)
Sally in St Paul says
I totally missed that the scarf featured adorable little big cats! Thanks for the heads up :)

Thank you for another excellent and imaginative Fierce Lynx post. I love this series, mainly because I love bead jewellery and the heroines are always doing something interesting. This is my idea of a perfect weekend, though I’d give the sports game a miss and find a local fete or antiques/craft fair to go to instead.
I’m always amazed at the names of the gemstones that Alison uses.
Many that I’ve never heard of like the amazing blue of Dumortierite. This is the perfect shade of blue as I move to an alternative to navy. Though I love the stone Tigers Eye, the colour is not for me.
I could swap camel for taupe trousers and patterned tops. The accessories are perfect, particularly the bead necklace. I love finding different pieces at different times that just go together. Beads are so versatile. I often wear a string of beads with a pendant underneath.
As always, I’m inspired. Thanks Janice for all you do. Have a lovely weekend. It’s set warm and fair for us.

Great story, Janice! Don’t we all wish we could just DO this as an every-two-weeks habit!!
Enjoy your weekend and let’s pray for peace on this Memorial Day!

This just makes me want to go somewhere – anywhere! Rainy and cool-ish here in the PNW for the next few days. :( I have a friend currently at Indy 500, cutest Air BNB…. I can just picture a variation of this travel wardrobe in that cute rental and all the accompanying activities. I live vicariously through your heroines’ and my friend’s travels. Have a good weekend everyone!

Janice,
How very timely ! I am headed to the New Jersey shore for a long weekend joining my husband’s first family , and these are pretty close to the colors that I’ll be using, plus off white .
It’ll be 70 degrees down there and 91 on the way home to PA , so all of your instructive posts on packing for temperature variations are coming to mind ! Have a wonderful holiday weekend !

That bracelet is just lovely and I have the JCrew sweater blazer (though they call it KHAKI) it’s one of the very few camel/beige colours that works for me so it is often paired with navy, red or black. Heading this weekend to the home of Fierce Lynx Designs (beautiful New Brunswick, Canada) as that is my Acadien husband’s home base and then on to Prince Edward Island to check on our summer house. Sadly, we have had to rent it out this summer as we navigate selling our ‘big house’ back in Ottawa. The Maritime weather forecast looks cool so I might pack that cardigan which has seen little use in our hot, humid valley. It will work with my base neutrals of black & navy.
Wishing American relatives & friends a safe Memorial Day weekend. A reminder to take a deep breath and accept that while there is tremendous, heart wrenching bleakness currently in the world we also need to acknowledge and give praise for the beauty that exists beside it. Peace.

AK, I’m right there with you as a cat lady…and totally loving the scarf. The whole blue gold vibe of the capsule is great. I did something like it today. Dark denim boot trouser jeans, a whte scoop neck top and a lime-tinted yellow cardigan with beige wedge slides. Easy was the keyword as I’m having a flare day affecting my ears and throat. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Would love to see more of the blue. Love the bracelet.

I second that. It’s a good colour for those of us finding navy too dark.

This capsule is sooo close to perfect! I would replace those chambray pants with jeans. No elastic waists, patch pockets or easy fit for me. I would replace the tunic with a basic chambray button down shirt. Super classic, versatile capsule.

I love that bracelet! I have a different set from Fierce Lynx in blue and silver, but this with the gold accents is so rich looking. We’re having such a cold spring on the west coast of Canada that I’m wearing lots of layers these days. A sweater blazer would be just the thing!

Hi Janice and Everyone: Now that’s a ‘yellow’ I can get next to, probably because on my computer it looks like ‘gold’ more than ‘mustard ‘ even though the manufacturer calls it ‘caramel.’. Someone should do a research study on color names.
Hugs to all.

I remember learning in a college science class about how many color names for women will be passive – think forest green – and for men the same color is labeled actively – like hunter green. Sand for women, khaki (connoting military) for men. This was 20 years ago, not sure how much the industry has changed since then.

I love these looks, although my jeans would be button up ones. But I wanted to say after reading the Vivienne files for a while now (and going through the older ones) I have been convinced that I need a good button up that fits me. Due to my shape I had completely given up (broad shoulders). But a few days ago I went with a friend a couple hours away to a big outlet mall and found a perfect navy blue linen long sleeve button up shirt at Eddie Bauer. I am so excited. I have washed it a couple times to start the softening process and am hoping to wear it out today for grocery shopping with my triple top secret. As it has been said the PNW is still rainy and cool. Thanks for encouraging us to keep looking Janice!

I know this is camel/beige but especially in the first outfit and with the bracelet it reads as “blue and gold” and even “navy and gold” to me — color combos that in our house are for cheering on college sports. This is definitely a slightly more sophisticated take on a college sweatshirt or tee shirt.
So interesting how our brains and context affect our views of colors. If I was an oft-traveling independent heroine I would be sure to attend some interesting campus academic or cultural events or lectures to keep learning! Thank you for this lovely wardrobe and your friend at Fierce Lynx.
Janice says
My first thoughts with these colors were Ukraine (albeit more muted than their flag), and my high school colors! And I suspect that our heroine would love a good lecture; she’s VERY eclectic in her interests!
hugs,
Janice

A 2nd check back…am looking at the blue & gold again…wondering if it’s too far off from teal. There is a divinely beautiful teal print blouse at House of Foxy that my heart longs to bring home…this post made me wonder if the Love Story print would go with the Mustard Whirlaway skirt that I already own from HoF. Does anyone care to offer a thought about that print with the mustard? Is it too far from blue to be included in a blue, white, yellow, green, browns capsule? Thanks Janice for another thought provoking post. I do look forward to them.

Adore this wardrobe. Perfect for me! Love the heroine’s story too. Thanks for the inspiration.
