It Just Felt Right…
She knew that she wanted a fresh color palette for spring and summer this year – this year when she was finally going to be able to get out and do some things…
When she saw the scarf, she knew that THIS was what she wanted!
She and her sweetheart are going away for a weekend, and she thinks that this will be the perfect opportunity to try out her new color palette…
Their activities will be mostly city-type things – museums, window-shopping, café-sitting and DINING… Nothing insanely dressy, but she wants to look pretty!
When she takes a look at her travel capsule wardrobe, she just feels happy; these colors are built for happiness!
But of course, because she’s a heroine of The Vivienne Files, she double-checks that all of this actually is wearable!
On Friday, I’m going to expand this wardrobe to include a bit of navy, and see if we can’t get it to last well into the spring…
love,
Janice
p.s. Six years ago, I added accessories to a navy and yellow wardrobe! Some colors are meant to catch our eye these days…

Love the scarf. Fitting colors. And it translates into a nice spring capsule. I can’t wait to see the navy additions.

I love this wardrobe! I have a lot of light blue, white, and navy in my spring and summer wardrobe. I’m not someone who can wear yellow well, but I do like that skirt! I will look around for some similar fabric to make one. I’m looking forward to the next post on Friday with the navy articles.

Gorgeously feminine capsule. I love the range of blues that could expand this. I wish I could wear yellow. It’s such a mood lifter. I can wear the soft blues though.

Beth, I am not great in most yellows either, but I think I am going to try a small amount, like this scarf. As you say, it is so cheery. It works with denim and my navy well.

PERFECT colors for the times, as well as being a good combination.

Oh agree! My first thought, what a light, optimistic palette! I have some lighter blues, I wonder if I can find an unexpected yellow accent in my closet ;)
This may be the simple joy that carries my complicated day.

Morning! I usually wear my yellow with black or gray – I have a fair amount of navy as well, so thanks for expanding my horizons!

I love this. Thank you. So perfect. Now to figure out adding in green & also what could be good for (yuck) camping… At least if I can find these pretty colors to wear, a camper weekend may be bearable…but I prefer the heroine’s city activities as it sounds way more fun.

I’ll take this lovely springtime pallet as a sartorial tribute to Ukraine 🇺🇦 and I love how you find garments that play so nicely together. I had a pale yellow midi skirt that was a cousin to the one in this wardrobe, back in the mid-80’s. Yellow is such a mood-lifter.

Ukrainian colors! Lovely! Thoughtful!

Ah, this palette takes me back to the spring of … 1978, maybe? I was home on spring break, and the spring/summer JCP catalog was waiting for me. There was a two-page spread of navy and yellow, and I bought every.single.piece. The yellow blouse was quite saturated, and did not play well with the yellow blazer/skirt/pants (but was gorgeous with the same pieces in navy), and the yellow pants never did fit, but how I loved the other pieces and wore them to death.
Needless to say, I love this grouping, and can’t wait to see the addition of navy (still my most beloved neutral).

What a wonderfully “supportive” wardrobe you’ve given us today. Thank you so much for this. 💛💙🇺🇦

That butter-colored bag is calling my name!

Absolutely beautiful and just my style! Though yellow is one of my least flattering colors, adding something like the bracelet to my primarily blue wardrobe might work. FYI, the crystal bracelet link goes to a scarf.
I was so happy to see the post on Monday with skirts as well. I have several dressier events coming up this spring. Two events, a wedding shower on Saturday and a baptism on Sunday, occur this weekend and darn it, but snow is in the forecast with temps in the 20s. Spring is so fleeting!

I love it!! This is actually my color palette, and it is so refreshing to see. Gotta get that scarf!

The pale blue column and accessories in the transit outfit is stunning! Kudos on finding these matching hues across a range of brands. At “in the bag” I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t any navy (my beloved neutral) in the capsule, but I should have known it was coming!
It’s still too cold here for my light yellow and soft blue pieces to come out to play, but I am very interested in testing this color combo for myself this spring.

This is beautiful! I was just thinking of navy and denim together… but navy and light blue is fun too!
Cynthia says
Thank you, Janice for all your hard work in pulling these pieces together. You have such a wonderful eye and sensibility. Love the sunflower borders, too. A lovely way to show support for a beleaguered country. 🇺🇦

That’s my sweater! I linked to it from a previous article (different color I think) but I fell in love with the yellow, and it didn’t disappoint. I wear it constantly. I’m not usually a yellow person, but this is that light yellow that almost anyone can wear. I love it.
So now I’m thinking about light blue. I’ve worn it with navy, gray and black. But the light blue is really nice….

Such a fresh, pretty, and cheerful capsule!

Beautiful colours, and so sensitive to the time we live in. Yellow is not my colour, but that soft buttery shade is so appealing.

Beautiful, a spring morning with blue skies and sunshine. This capsule will look great expanded with navy.

Yellow and medium-to-light blue, so light-hearted! I’m curious about those scarves. The Pucci is $465, the Jessie Zhao, $50. Talk about two extremes; we’d have to handle them to assess the difference. There is a chance the Pucci will feel too warm as it warms up, and also that the Zhao will not be up to snuff—$50 is really low for a silk piece with hand-rolled hems. For spring I’m pulling out my lozenges or small rectangles that don’t add much warmth, just some pattern.

Hi Janice and Everyone!
I like the scarf as a piece of art – that in itself is a mood-lifter.
For me, the yellow and light blue would a little too pale for me. I can only wear yellow in small doses. So I am awaiting the navy ‘accent’ pieces – I say that because I think navy will make the other colors more eye-catching.
💗 to Ukraine 🌻

What a beautiful wardrobe! Unfortunately, these are not my colors. However, this would look terrific on someone with summer coloring like Jill Biden.
