Sweaters! By the time late February rolls around, many of us are SICK of our sweaters…
A new sweater, with some texture or pattern, might be all it takes to get us through ’til Spring without deciding to wear bathrobes 24/7…
And if you find something in a lovely color, that you could wear well into the Spring, all the better!
I would wear this entire outfit in a (ahem…) heartbeat:
Maybe the end of winter is easier to tolerate if you have a brightly warm-hued sweater, and a cheery wee neckerchief!
note the angle at the neckline of the scarf, with the rooflines on the scarf…
Mixed textures is an easy and low-key way to bring some interest into your wardrobe; don’t forget the scarf that matches, but bring so much more to your outfit!
Okay, you might not want to do anything particularly bright or racy; how about a classic design for fleece, interpreted in a beautiful sweater? Toss in just a touch of ember-orange for fun…
If you’re a true fan of warm colors, a sweater described as “camel snow” must be intriguing… And who couldn’t love a forest-print scarf, and teeny little owl earrings?
Maybe this is your way of suggesting that 8 a.m. video conferences are a little bit… cruel…
I never think of wearing green with black – why not?
these sweaters are wonderful – I have 2 of them, and I believe I will have them the rest of my life…
For some reason, these last days of February seem like the longest days of the year!
love,
Janice
p.s. Seven years ago, I was struggling to distinguish in my own mind between admiring beautiful things and buying all of them; it’s a never-ending question!

Glad you’re feeling better, Janice. I wear textured jumpers a lot. I’d wear the pink jumper too but with pale grey.
The pinks in my wardrobe tend to be cool pinks (lilac-pink, orchid pink), warm pinks (salmon pink, and cameo pink) and dark pinks (fuschia pink and plum-pink). However, I don’t have anything in this shade of raspberry pink which is what you get when you simply dilute red with white. But then, do I need another shade of pink in my wardrobe? This leads nicely into the topic of the look-back.
I’m getting better at going into shops, admiring lots of things, but buying nothing. Do I need anything in this shade of raspberry pink? Probably not but I still like to have my favourite colour groups in every shade that suits me – why?
There are times when I think that I would like a top or jumper in a true rose or raspberry pink that is neither a cool nor warm colour but right in the middle. I saw one in the autumn but thought about it too long and they sold out my size.
Is it a bad case of FOMO? Is this colour distinctive enough for me? What would I wear it with? Have I ever worn that shade of pink? If I saw that jumper hanging on a rail, would it leap out at me?
I know that if I bought a jumper in that shade, I would have to find a coordinating top and vice versa. So it wouldn’t just be one purchase but two at least. Then would any of my scarves or jewellery go with said jumper/top?
I’m going through my jewellery at the moment. Pink is one of my smallest colour groups. Is that because pink stone/bead jewellery is hard to find? Yes. Would I buy a bead necklace, pendant, bracelet or ring that is more of a rose or raspberry pink? Yes. Would any of my scarves go with a new shade of pink? Not sure as most of my spring/summer scarves are still packed away.
So this begins to look as if raspberry or rose pink are shades that I would only wear for a short season in the summer. After all that’s when real roses and raspberries appear. So why did I see this colour in a shop the autumn? Climate change? Possibly? We no longer have seasons – just weather, so wear what you fancy any time of year.
So the jury is sitting on the fence for me. But it is a lovely colour…

So well said! I have a similar struggle and am trying so hard to be intentional in building the wardrobe I need – not just the one I covet. Learning to be okay with less.
On another note, Janice, I love the details you observe, like the repeat of the house rooflines in the scarf with the V in the sweater… it is a big part of the appeal of your blog!

So glad you’re back! I hope you feei well again.

Welcome back, so glad you are feeling better. I love all of these. But then, pants, sweater and a scarf are just my thing right now. I will admit the pink and white kind of took my breath away – just beautiful. Thank you for starting my day off properly!

I was so excited to see your post this morning. It means you must be feeling a little better.
Your choices are always so beautiful. I could buy every sweater you put up there. Affording it is a different thing…

Welcome back! You must be feeling better! YAY!!!
I love wearing sweaters, but in South Florida, pullover sweaters get worn maybe twice in a winter season. I have a two that I keep for visits to see my children in Boston – staples in my “winter” wardrobe!
Thank you!
susu says
Also cannot get more sweaters here in the South. BUT scarves… heck yea. So many beautiful choices as we transition to spring. Thank you, Janice! Hope you continue to feel better <3

Welcome Back! I hope you are feeling much better!
I love sweaters. The raspberry outfit and the navy / ember orange both caught my eye today. So nice to see something lighter in color.
It’s that time in winter when the snow has lost some luster and my eyes have grown tired of darker colors.
Thank you for the inspiration! Have a wonderful day.

Some time ago I read these words of wisdom, and I try to keep them in mind:
“Admire does not have to result in Desire.
Desire does not have to result in Acquire.”
( the quote used the “not equal to” symbol)

A quote to keep in your wallet or purse!

I laughed when I saw your owl outfit—My sentiments, exactly! The derby shoes are gorgeous! Out of my price range, but just lovely to admire online.
Very relieved to see you’re feeling well enough to post. I assume you’re still on the mend. Praying for your complete recovery. I agree; February feels like the longest month of the year, and, for me, always the most miserable.

Happy to see you back–hope or you’re feeling well!

Glad you’re back!
Looking at this post I realize how much you’ve influenced my shopping this winter. I have a lot of those pieces from LLBean — including the cable sweater, but in yellow. Not normally my color but it is such a nice yellow and it makes me smile. Worn with the brown knit cords. And I bought from JCrew too! I’ve lost some weight, and I can show there now. That was fun.
So thank you for the inspiration.

Hi Janice and Everyone! I definitely agree about texture mixing to enliven a wardrobe. Actually, I found having snow around these parts this January and February like the good old days rather refreshing. As such, I have enjoyed my cozy sweaters and warm beverages. Now, ask me in April how I feel about snow and you may get a different answer.
Olive and black…yes, of course, and perhaps an idea for my 21 pc challenge for March-?
Thank you for including the look-back post. There are –many– pieces of clothing on TVF that I think are just beautiful. What I am able to do on my kindle is save the images/text to a file for future reference/sighing.
I also quiz myself with all of the practical questions everyone has mentioned. So that reduces any actual purchasing to what is out of necessity.
Does anyone anywhere ‘browse’ through clothing stores anymore-? My female in laws had that down to an art form (Even in grocery stores). Even way before Covid, I was not much of a ‘browser’. I was a ‘shopper’: I knew exactly what I wanted, I would speed-browse, buy it, done. The trouble would be if I bought something and I realized I had something already like it buried in the closet.
Thank you for reading my wayward tales.
Glad you are feeling better Janice ?

I love browsing in clothes stores, even the clothes section in supermarkets and charity shops (often laid out like boutiques). Just wandering around, feeling the material, seeing small collections which have mix and match outfits, looking at the accessories. This is an experience that has yet to be replicated on online stores. Sometimes, they suggest “Wear with…” but its not the same. Online, you are looking at a catalogue and wading through 1000’s of items is tedious.
michelle says
I agree that on line browsing can be overwhelming. Too many choices! And not all online shops have nice filters to make the choices narrower. I love being in the stores to see the fabric, see the displays and mannequins.

Welcome back. I love the colours in the sweaters – especially the lighter tones. At this time of year I crave something other than black and grey. The olive sweater really caught my eye.
Marilyn Bornstein says
So glad you
Re feeling well enough to get out a post! And a great one at that! Love every single combo. I can match many of them with my own clothes. Can’t wait!
Sally in St Paul says
The pink and ivory sweaters are very appealing for Spring (aka Yet More Winter in Minnesota), but the barn owl earrings win the adorability contest.
Agnes says
I love the last combo, it would fit well in a Tree of life scarf wardrobe.
Shrebee says
Janice,
Welcome back— hope that you are feeling much improved !
Speaking of your attention to detail — those little owl earrings are adorable and I love the scarf too !
On the purchasing topic, I buy a lot of things on Amazon, but I put them on a waiting cart listing first and then I delay “ pulling the trigger” on their purchase, sometimes for several months . I have found that as time goes by, I delete some of those initial listings that I thought that I just had to have, but later realized that I didn’t want or need them after all!
Margery says
Glad to see you posting Janice!
I love that Ivory cotton cable knit with the beautiful navy pants and the blue & white repeated in the earrings. Perfection! Navy & white or off white are perennial favourites for me but especially as we approach spring.
And the raspberry pink at the top, wow. Pink is grabbing me as an accent. Every shade.

when i hopped on your site this am, i saw a post for a start with a bracelet collection (yay!), but when i clicked on it to read it, i got a 404 error. and now the post has vanished completely and i only see this prior one (about sweaters) when i go to your homepage. i tried to send you an email through the contact page, and that returned an error too. looks like we’ve got gremlins…
