Happy Birthday Belovedest!!!

Ahem… back to accent colors, and simple tee shirts to bring some brightness and interest into your wardrobe:
Earrings – I’MMANY; light salmon chamois tunic – L.L.Bean; soft Mojave rose tee – Lands’ End; sable corduroy pants – L.L.Bean; loafers – Trotters
This is a color to keep in mind if you’re ever tasked with choosing the team tee shirt color, or smocks for the volunteers, or anything where a group of women are going to be dressed alike. This is a color that doesn’t look truly horrible on anyone, in my humble opinion. And it goes with all neutrals, so nobody should be unable to pull together an outfit… (of course, some people do not really WANT to be part of a group, but that’s a whole different issue for you to diplomatically smooth over….)
Your tee shirt doesn’t have to match anything in your outfit… blending is nice, though!

Some of us just don’t look good in Autumn colors, and there’s no reason we should force ourselves to wear them! Stick with your best color palette, and just switch to sweaters and long-sleeved tops when the temperatures start to drop…
My autumn wardrobe is still a chaotic mess, post-move. Happily, the weather has stayed (mostly) warm…
This week it will all get straightened, she promises herself with firm determination!

Thanks for permission not to wear fall colours. I love and appreciate them in nature, and on lots of other people. Just switching to sweaters and long sleeves as weather cools, but staying with colours that work for you makes very good sense .
I totally agree with both you and Franki ! I don’t look well in Autumn colors, though I love them in nature! It’s my favorite weather of the year!

Love the first outfit. I know I said this last week (and many times before) but the plaid shirts just do it for me. Whether on their own, under a corduroy jacket, or as a topper. hahaha Remembering one of my boys for about four years every day on photo day wore a plaid shirt w/the sleeves rolled up. Apple didn’t fall far from the tree on that one!
ps… at least the last two you’ve featured have not been in berry colors! My wardrobe runneth over with berry colored plaid shirts.
Two more home runs for Janice! When I first discovered The Vivienne Files, I went back in time and read every post. You’ll find so many brilliant guidelines to keep yourself from becoming a victim of what I call early Halloween “fashion.” (Too many designers are pushing costumes instead of beautiful, wearable clothing.)
In today’s post I found two solid gold guidelines, which I call Janiceisms:
1. If you’re having trouble picking your accent color for the season, check your scarves for one you love that shows up a lot.
2. If you don’t look great in autumn colors, wear autumn weight clothing in YOUR colors. (Talbot’s has a bonanza of autumn colors this season, btw, for those of you who look gorgeous in gold, rust, plum, olive, tan.)
I tell all my friends to read TVF when they express confusion over their wardrobes!

Seasons of mist and mellow fruitfulness come to mind. Having just bought a lovely rose/salmon pink scarf (£2 in a charity shop), I can now find reasons to wear it in the autumn. as it is the nearest I get to wearing orange/coral. It not only looks lovely with browns, but also burgundy, grey, taupe, shades of teal (blue and green) and the darker grey blues like prussian/petrol blues.
Thank you for the Kelly Green and Navy autumn wardrobe! I bought (too many!) Kelly Green and Bright Pink pieces from Macy’s this past spring, and really don’t want to put all of them away. I will the polo dresses and some of the printed pieces, as they truly scream summertime. I love the colors of autumn, but as a “Winter” I don’t wear them well. Happy Birthday to your husband, and good luck with finishing up your move! It seems like yesterday that you made the move from your studio to your one-bedroom apartment (and now I feel like a stalker, lol).
I love accent-color long-sleeved Ts, and the advice to peruse one’s scarf collection to inspire color choices for them in terrific. I am very inclined to love a navy + white capsule, and this green one is no exception (I don’t wear much of this kind of kelly/leaf green but it’s beautiful). It’s interesting to see the wide leg jeans in the mix. Perhaps this fall I will bring out my trouser jeans with a similar shape; this isn’t a very practical option most fall/winters, but I’m still working from home and don’t need to worry about saturating my hems with rain/snow on my commute.

Happy Birthday to your Beloved! Wonderful post today, especially your great advice to stay true to your colours. My wardrobe gets a bit confused by what is available in autumn (and winter), I love the season but it doesn’t look good on me! I will now be looking for my colours in warmer fabrics.
I can’t find the navy fair isle sweater, it can’t be gone already? On second thoughts, probably better for my bank account if I can’t find it ?

I have that lovely fair isle sweater, several similar navy and green items plus an emerald green corduroy skirt and pants. Thank you for showing me some additional ways to use those items and expand my wardrobe without any extra purchases! Like several others have already mentioned, I do not look good in the usual autumn colors. This was great to see a break from tradition.
