Finally….
She’s going to go up to the cabin, and she’s NOT LEAVING until the fireplace works properly…
She’s saved money through the pandemic for just such a project, and it occurred to her (in the middle of the night, as such things will) that this would be the best investment she could make.
Winter in the cabin. Without frostbite. Without frozen water in the mornings…. sigh….
She knows that she will need warm clothes for this trip – there won’t be any heat at first, and the people working on the fireplace will be in and out.
Her first thought is to pack her usual denim and shades of grey; then she looks at her favorite bracelets, and tweaks her palette just a bit!
She picks out her first outfit – probably what she will wear to drive up into the mountains:
Then she busts out with her rust sweater; she’s not sure how this will all go together, but this is a great trip for experimenting. The woods are not full of fashion police…
She never travels without her chambray shirt…
She knows that she could pack her 2nd and 3rd outfits and be just fine…
…but there’s a chance that she will stay more than 2 days; contractors aren’t THAT reliable. And she might find that her work goes very smoothly when she’s away from distractions. AND she thinks that at least 1 more garment in a fiery shade might be fun!
Now, she’s feeling more contented with her travel capsule wardrobe. Enough tops to spill, or tear, or have some other mishap, and also to hang around a few more days if the mood strikes:
She stands there for a moment before packing, and runs over outfits in her mind…
Now she has to be sure to pack the GOOD radio, so she can listen to baseball playoffs!
love,
Janice
p.s. Just 2 years ago, our heroine went to an ornithologist’s convention, with a teal, black, grey, and beige wardrobe. This has aged well…

This is a great cold weather wardrobe. Charcoal grey is my alternative to black. I recently bought charcoal grey tweed trousers. Salmon pink, cameo pink, musk pink, rosewood would be my softer alternatives to rust. As I discover which clothes still fit me from last autumn, my wardrobe is becoming smaller. Just the time for a new experiment in my cold weather wardrobe.
I always enjoy your look backs and often delve further into the ones either side for more inspiration.
Hope you are enjoying your new apartment. It’s a lot of fun finding new places for your possessions.

I LOVE this color combo! And I love your “start with” approach to building a capsule. Thanks for the inspiration!

oh wow, I absolutely love this. And it’s just how I’m feeling today (well, feeling like dressing today) Sadly, we have two more days of warm weather before cool and wet moves in – which is more suitable for this wardrobe. I’ve liked all the wardrobes this week, it’s been such a pleasure. I’m not sure about rust for me, but lack the wits right now (just got up) to think of an alternative – though Beth’s pinks sound good. Colorful Standard has lots of spicy colors for fall…Have a great weekend everyone!

FYI- the neck gaiter link in the first outfit didn’t for me.

Love these colors, although my accent leans more toward the pink side of terracotta . The chambray shirt is the perfect style, no odd buttons or flaps on the front; I am in search of one that is less pale/pastel since the lighter color washes me out.
The only thing I’d add, since cold is the issue is a base layer, tops and bottoms. I like my LLBean wool layer and my cuddleduds which are silky and thin enough to let my clothes move on me throughout the day. Sock liners under wool socks ( my Farm to Feet socks are thin enough for autumn and don’t add too much bulk under street shoes) , keep my feet warm enough when I don’t want to wear my heavier boots.

Good Morning! I love this collection. The rust/terracotta color is unexpected but adds a pop of brightness to the otherwise muted collection. I just think it’s beautiful! If I had the means – I would buy every item in this collection. Well done Janice! Happy Friday All.

Charcoal is my favorite color to accompany rust. I love how the rust warms up the grey. Adding that to the soft, denim-y blues makes for a wonderful palette!

Great story, great clothes. This could be my casual weekend capsule for most of the fall. Swap out the rust color after thanksgiving to garnet and keep going. Is there any color that doesn’t go with denim and grey? I’m sure she is also taking a warm base layer as mentioned above as well as flannel jammies and a warm robe for drinking coffee on the porch.

Oh I love that rusty colour! I have a cardigan in that shade and it’s amazing how versatile it is. And of course, with black, it’s a great Halloween sweater, lol! I have some white and grey windowpane fabric like the shirt pictured. Time to get sewing!
