I’ve got a special treat for us today – the kind people at Echo are offering a FREE scarf (of your choice, of course!) to one of you…
How to win? Leave a comment, and I will choose a random number on Monday morning; the reader who left the comment that corresponds to that number will have a new, beautiful scarf!
And if they let me know which one they choose, I will do a travel wardrobe based on it, too!
Pretty nice, eh?
And if you’re an Instagram person, DEFINITELY follow Echo Scarves there, too…
Let’s get started!
It occurred to me that these wardrobes do not yet have a dress! What is one to wear to the weddings and other festivities of summer?
How about a simple dress, with a sparkly cardigan?
Heck yeah!
These pieces all fit in beautifully with this wardrobe:
And as always, one has more options for getting dressed with each addition to their wardrobe:
On to that color palette that just screams summer!
This isn’t quite as dressy, but it could still be worn to a ton of summer activities:
This wardrobe just continues to improve, doesn’t it?
There are lot of things this heroine can do with a simple dress and accent cardigan:
Bring on the purple!
I’m not sure that I’m suggesting the corduroy shirt over this dress – unless you’re feeling like dressing down after a long day of formalities! Grab the shirt, pull it on and go outdoors for the evening…
Once I put all of these pieces on 1 page, you can see why I didn’t even TRY to resist the shirt!
Plenty of choices for this heroine!
I love the brightness and warmth of this next palette:
I see this heroine going to something lovely…
We’ve taken the dressy quotient up a notch or two, but everything is still very happy together…
And both new garments are useful, too!
On to my nemesis…
I took your advice and persisted in looking for brown! Don’t look too closely and the image of the brown cardigan – I had to do a little bit of creative editing…
This still looks like 2 wardrobes glued together, but I’m starting to feel more optimistic that I can make it work!
Our heroine’s new clothes will get well used…
And our final scarf – the beautiful scenery-inspired wrap:
This is perfect for an event that suggests a dress, but not anything over the top:
They blend right in, don’t they?
And they offer this heroine a few new outfits, just with 2 pieces of clothing:
So if you’re the winner, which scarf will you choose?
I already bought the snowflake scarf for myself…
love,
Janice
p.s. Five years ago, we were engaged in this exercise, using 6 Hermes scarves… We added shorts and tops back then!
sp says
They are all beautiful, but I love the purples and mauves in the ruana best.
Helen Taylor says
Thanks for another inspirational post.
I love your choice of the Echo snowflake scarf for its colours but the natural Swirl silk square with its curving pattern would be the one I’d definitely go for.
Erica says
I love the mountain view wrap. The pattern reminds me of a watercolor painting and the colors remind me of the rivers in the mountains that I hoke in. The length is different than the others which is something I usually go for also. I never preferred being like everyone else. All beautiful selections!
Ruth says
Love, love, love wardrobe number six! That little touch of coral just makes it special.
Ansi says
I usually love the navy capsule but I have a little problem with the purple so this year I prefer the last scarf and the casual everyday clothes
Karen says
I like the last one too
Gill says
I also usually go for navy, cream or ivory and grey, but this summer I’m craving pink, pale butter yellow and coral. Not really sure why, maybe a reaction to lockdown and what in France at least has been a long grey rainy winter.
So probably I’d go for the blue patchwork scarf and make it work! Thank you so much for your inspiring posts. I’ve been in France for nearly a year having arrived with a summer wardrobe, a few bits for cooler days and intended to stay only for a few months. Covid and husbands operation thought otherwise so i’ve had to make a few stra tegic purchases, all online as most clothes shops here have been closed on and off for the past 6 months. You’ve helped me focus on what to buy instead of being random in my choice.
Melissa Partin says
I absolutely adore the Mountain View wrap, and since I live in the mountains, it would work for me year round as our temperatures never get too hot! It was a tough decision to be sure. I always find something I can’t live without in every one of your delightful posts!
Lisa Rimmington says
I love the Ralph Lauren dress! It looks so versatile.
SimplyFy says
Thank you for your dedication to this wonderfully helpful blog!
Leslie says
I have facilitated between wardrobe #4 and wardrobe #6, but the sleeveless ivory dress clinched the deal. I love the dress and sweater. It looks so elegant.
Sheri says
Thank you for the creative color suggestions that bring black and navy to life! So many wonderful scarf options to choose from to add fun!!
Reggie says
I love how dresses are in these wardrobes. I rarely wear shorts outside of the house now, but an easy wear dress is just perfect. I would choose the patchwork scarf either color since they both work with my spring/summer capsules.
Thanks for all you do to create these for us.
G S says
Such a great promotion thank you Echo!
Tough choices on the scarf. I love blues blacks and cream but if probably choose orange for my mom who lives it since childhood (she’s 86 this month!)
Ap says
Wow, 5 years flew by!
Love these outfits especially the cream colored dress with edge hem.
The scarves are all pretty, costing one would be the second luxury. Winning a the first and wearing a the third and longest!
Jill says
I love the wardrobe fun, style and simplicity. Thanks for all the ideas- i’d be lost and overpacking without them.
Robin says
I love your style sense! The first two scarves are my favorites – the black and pink scarf is more dressy and can be worn year-round. The second scarf is the more casual with cheerful blues, coral and yellow for spring and summer (and even into early fall!). Both gorgeous and offer lots of options.
Gretchen says
I love this promotion! Thank you for offering to create a wardrobe around it too, so generous.
I’m going to spend quality time scarf gazing over the weekend!
Purse cover whatever happened with the chain link purse. A good scarf pairing….
carol says
thanks for all you do. i wont tell you how OLD i am but due to the fact that i wore a uniform most of my life i still dont know how to dress. I love all your posts and study them.
Gail Johnson says
I would choose the Patchwork in aqua as these are the colours that best suit my light spring colour way. I enjoy your blog posts and appreciate receiving them. Your writing style is delightful, your choices perfect for my casual lifestyle. Thank you!
Sylvia Rissell says
That brown floral scarf just causes problems, doesn’t it? I feel like the new yellow t-shirt dress would be awesome with the original scarf, but would need something like a denim jacket to ever be in the same outfit with the pink wrap!
All the clothes are so lovely, I want to go shop now.
Lisa says
I rarely wear dresses, but you’re right about wardrobes often needing one. I have a few Echo scarves but that Tiger in the Grass is calling to me.
Liz Taylor says
Enjoy the first of the month, waiting to see what new goodies you have put together for the scarf challenge. Again, you didn’t disappoint. Lovely items. Thank you.
Susan says
Loving the fact that dresses are added! I’m torn between both Patchwork Painted Florals, but leaning to the red! All lovely combinations! Thank you for putting all of these together!
Isi says
I really appreciate how you created wardrobes with more different colors, like the “summery” one, and more monochrome ones. I really prefer having more colors to chose from!
AK says
Each of those dresses is incredibly versatile- and so much cooler than pants in hot climates!
CRP says
I prefer dresses or skirts during the summer especially – they just feel cooler – and love anything blue. I do think the brown scarf wardrobe is coming together, the unusual color choices in it make it harder to work with, but it will be stunning for the right person. The fact it is harder is quite illustrative of what to do in those cases.
Biddy Gander says
I absolutely adore the Natural Swirl scarf. The colours are so peaceful and even if I am not lucky enough to win I would love to see your interpretation of a wardrobe based on this beauty.
MamaSquirrel says
Natural Swirl = ?????! (Sorry to comment twice, don’t know if it’s allowed, but I had to say that.)
Karen says
I love the first butterfly scarf. I’d give it to my sister in law who sees butterflies for her daughter who was tragically killed ? so pretty and feminine like she was.
Cat says
Beautiful choices as always. I really like your second scarf, the blue patchwork, which has my favorite colors for summer in it. But I am also drawn to the Fantastica scarf on the Echo site. Truly who wouldn’t want one of each of their scarves? They are all gorgeous.
lilbear says
Oh heavens. Of this group? One of the two patchworks or the mountainview…. This would require some heavy-duty decision-making! ?. And I just got the Target version of that pecan J Crew dress, and looking at that collection made all kinds of lightbulbs go off in my head. As always, thank you! (And I hope you have a great 4th!).
Colleen says
I’d choose the last/sixth scarf with the muted blue -green -gray-pink color scheme. Love that it works so well with denim.
Saide says
Looking at so many pretty scarfs was not a bad way to enjoy my breakfast :) tough choice, but I think alabaster bengal blooms is my favorite.
And I am torn between loving the purple wardrobe most but thinking the final blue one would fit my life best!
Lara says
I love Echo scarves! So hard to choose just one!!
Sheila says
I find summer dresses quite useful and wear them A LOT when it’s warm. Although I’ve been following the purple and the Mt. View most closely, I absolutely adore the red/orange/green patchwork wardrobe – and that Tiger scarf is to die for. Several years ago (before gray) I would have been all over that one. Which scarf? That would be a tough one. I’ve bought a few Echo scarves over the past year, looking ahead to fall I’m thinking of introducing a red berry color – it’s not burgundy, not red, not pink… somewhere in there…raspberry maybe? So would probably look for something in that range.
Linda Young says
I love the versatility of the Mountain View Wrap.
chava says
Thank you so much. It’s been inspiring to follow as you put together these beautiful wardrobes!
SUSAN koffler-SLUIJTER says
Thank you for such an amazing and inspirational post ! I love that you have covered so many different scarves and colour combinations as I myself as a HOC Winter an a dramatic gamine will be adjusting the colours slightly. I would say for me A SCARF is ESSENTIAL to pull a look together otherwise its just a collection of colours, a print makes the outfit and created TRUE STYLE ?
And scarves can be worn in so many different ways so I am HUGE FAN of a scarf as KEY ACCESSORY. thank you for these scarf based posts they are truly helpful.
Lise says
If I were the winner of the Echo scarf I would choose the Patchwork Floral in Passion Flower. It will match my brand new sun hat to perfection. I love that capsule too. The pleated dress is so interesting.
anon says
This post made me think about the dr3esses I have and should wear more! And I got lured into a tour of the Echo scarves, which took much longer than I thought. I really like the Wild Palm square in black – it looks really elegant and versatile.
MamaSquirrel says
I’ve been looking for the Mountainview wrap ever since you started this one! But the way you have been building up the purple-ruana collection is also very appealing.
Gee says
My Favorite is the red orange toned patchwork scarf. I think it best suits the palette of my current closet. Thank you so very much for your hard work on these posts. I really look forward to each one!
Marci says
It’s a difficult choice, but my favorite is the passion flower patchwork silk square. Happy colors! Thank you for the time and thought you put into your posts, Janice. I always look forward to seeing an email from you.
Holly says
I love the purple ruana and thinking I would get a light and airy one for summer in those same colors! Of course if it ever came time to purchasing one of these wardrobes, my nature would be to stick to the black and pink. I do love black.
Granny Lu says
I enjoy your blog, especially when you show scarves, a fashion feature that works well for me at my age. The Echo scarves are beautiful. I like nature, so the butterflies on the Chrysalis Scarf catch my eye. On the Echo site there is a beautiful scarf called Bengal Blooms in alabaster. That’s the scarf I would choose!
Yvonne says
I’m so happy to see this post with dresses…so many lovely styles and options! I truly appreciate all your time and work, Janice…because of you, I feel more put together and confident as I go about my day. :-) Not sure which scarf I would choose, to be honest…while the Wrap fits in with a lot of what I typically wear, they are all lovely in their own way and it might be fun to pick up a couple new pieces of clothing to coordinate! Good luck everyone, and thanks to Echo for their generosity!
Ezzy says
I love the first one – although i’m waiting for the purple to show up! That sparkly cardigan makes me smile – I bought a gently bedazzled cardigan for my 85-year-old grandmother. She thought it was WAY too much, and such a silly present (“why would an old lady like me ever wear sparkles?!?”) Later, for my cousin’s bridal shower, it was the PERFECT cardigan to dress up her outfit. She even sent me a video, in which you can hear her telling my aunt “Make sure she (me) sees that I’m actually wearing her gift!!” Grandma passed away a few years ago, but sparkly cardigans still make me think of her
Helen says
I have loved the purple ruana from the start. It is still my favourite.
Janet says
I own the sea blue patchwork scarf AND the ruana. My colors are navy, tan/white with accents of pink and aqua, but the scarf is pulling me toward a coral accent. Can’t find a navy dress that suits, but I have a navy skirt and tops that substitute.
Siobhan says
The warm colored floral patchwork scarf makes me think of the colors in Tuscany. I hope to visit there again in 2023 and this scarf would be a great travel capsule inspiration!
Ange says
I knew the red patchwork floral would be my favorite capsule this year, but then you added that tiger scarf and now the vintage inspired ivory dress! Oh, be still my heart. What a fun outfit to wear to a wedding!
Andi says
Omigosh, I have been coveting that Mountain View Wrap from day one! That colorway speaks to me so much I’m curating a capsule from this series. I have to modify it for south Florida by going for cotton over wool (I have a denim cotton cardi on my knitting needles as we speak) and sometimes jean shorts instead of jeans. I LOVE these 12-month series!
Kari says
A dress was the perfect addition to these wardrobes. I’ve moved toward black as a neutral in the past few years, and so I’ve been watching with interest as the first wardrobe evolves.
Cindy says
I am still loving the Mountain View wardrobe the best. If I were to win, I would have to peruse the Echo site and probably choose something in blues with ivory.
Barbara Hall says
I love this series and look forward to new additions each month. SO inspiring!
Lesley says
I love the Mountain View scarf and it would fit my wardrobe perfectly!
Marcia says
The chrysalis silk square with black and pink would probably be my choice. I love scarves and have been wearing them ever since I was in junior high… over 50 years.
Amy says
I think I’d be wavering between the Summer Palms or the green tropical toile on the website. Black and white are the two neutrals that are hardest for me to wear so anything that goes with ivory, brown, navy, etc… draws me right in.
I already own that watercolor landscape wrap you’ve been featuring, and it is gorgeous in person. Versatile, too!
Jenifer says
I love the shade of purple of the corduroy shirt that was added. Would love to find more dressy clothes in this shade. I too am a scarf fanatic. The tiger scarf is my favorite.
Georgia says
I look forward to this post each month. The Mountain View wardrobe is in my closet, well 90% of it at least. Thank you so much for showing us how a few core pieces can add up to so many different looks. You are wonderful!! And thank you Echo!!
Karen Miller says
I just subscribed today, though I have enjoyed your posts on Pinterest. My favorite summer colors are shades of purple and peach, worn with cream. Thanks for your inspiration!
Hallie Coletta says
I vote for the Scenery Inspired Wrap. Love that Japanese vibe. xoxo
Laurel Puchalski says
From these choices I would choose the wardrobe with the Chrysalis scarf but in navy, replace the grays with white (gray makes me look like I’m ready for the coffin!) and the black for navy. Looking at the Echo website however, I found that there are so many beautiful choices to choose from! But being realistic, the the Watery Stripes Silk Square or the Tropical Floral Silk Square in navy most closely work with my summer colors: white, navy, aqua, raspberry, and occasionally orange. The Tropical Floral Silk Square in zinnia is catching my eye as I just purchased some yellow tops – must be I needed a sunny color! OOOH – I can’t make up my mind! HAHA! Thank you for being in my mailbox every morning with your fantastic wardrobe ideas!
SuD says
All of the scarf capsules are beautiful, but I have a soft spot for the 2nd and last color combination. They would work well with my wardrobe.
MrsRBA says
Dear Janice,
What a treat! The dresses you chose are perfect, particularly the LL bean LBD… I am trying to ease away from black as my go-to neutral and move towards a slate grey business casual wardrobe (heavy on the casual, but still business) to go with my work environment. Many of the Echo scarves make me swoon, but I just may have to buy the Natural Swirl in Lapis Blue, even if I don’t win. Can you please do your magic with that one, even if there is a different winner?
On an unrelated note, I have become an LL Bean fan, thanks to you. Hoping my purchases get credited to you… there have been a few during this rebuilding spring/summer!
patricia valentic says
I bought the purple ruana so if I won I would want the Mountain view wrap. Both of these collections are using colors I wear. All of these are beautiful.
Janice Collins Coyle says
I’m still loving the last wardrobe – the denim and grey. So restful and comfortably casual. I’m adding some grey to my wardrobe and loving each piece. I know just the silk Echo scarf that would be lovely with this wardrobe. Thank for the opportunity to own another lovely Echo scarf. And, as always, thank you so much, Janice, for all you do. It has been a wonderful educational journey.
Bethany says
Another fun post. The vintage looking ivory dress was beautiful. All the navy and ivory clothes just call my name.
Kathy Eriksen says
I already own the Mountain View Wrap and have worn it several times – versatile piece. So love the pink sparkly cardigan. How fun to have some glitz in a wardrobe – I just started adding pink to my closet – and I’ve discovered purple as well. I’ve been lusting after the Romantic Floral Silk Square in Black. Using it to pull the rose colors out of the piece would be fun.
Natalie says
Oh so nice of them and one lucky reader to get a chance at a beautiful scarf. I love when you do these wardrobes and see how they each progress, such an interesting process!!
Julie K says
My mama looks great in purple so if I win I’ll pick the purple plaid wrap for her – perfect for a teacher who needs a quick extra layer at recess!
Deirdre Sumida says
Oooh – I love Echo scarves! Thanks to your blog, I purchased the silk square with tigers on it – love it!
Judith M says
The “screams summer” capsule wardrobe of coral/peach, yellow, aqua/turquoise, with the Patchwork Painted Floral Silk Square in Sea Blue is the closest to my Spring color pallet. I love how you pick one item and create entire wardrobes.
Jan says
Of all the scarves in this post, the purple ruana is my favorite. A tour of the Echo site, though, has me dreaming about the Grand Enchantment scarf, based on Grand Central Station, from the Series Collection. The turquoise/mint jade/teal color with gray/black/white is just gorgeous. Its color make my heart sing! Whenever you need a basis for another post, I’d really like to see what you do with this scarf. You are an amazing (and much more patient than me) shopper!
Kathleen miller says
My wardrobe is in transition from bright to more muted or “toasted”” colors, and I now prefer less busy patterns in my scarves. I really enjoy this series of posts, as well as ” start with art. ” intellectual inspiration.
Laura Thibeault says
Dear Janice
I came across your Vivienne Files while searching for inspiration for leaving black behind and embracing more uplifting, flattering colours. Your second scarf is the perfect representation of my favourite new palette! I’ve actually already embraced navy & camel – that scarf is absolutely perfect! I’m a busy realtor so having easy pairings I don’t have to think about is a lifesaver. Once I’ve put everything together I’ll be doing new photos for my website & social media. Feeling that I look my best gives me just that much more confidence & energy to do my job well.
Thanks for all you do to inspire us all.
Warm regards

Vivien Wulff says
I like the first scarf-Crysalis, with the black background. Cool combos fir me. Always enjoy your posts!
Kathleen says
Thanks for the great learning experience. I recently lost a lot of weight due to medical issues. I found that I can wear tops that are too large for me if I keep the pants the correct size. I buy a black pair and two demin pairs of jeans in whatever size I’m in at a particular time. Your work with organizing colors and neutrals has been an enormous help in getting through this strange siruation.
My favorite combo is still the first, with black as the neutral. Pink doesn’t work with my coloring, so I’ll stick with the brighter colors… and biege. I know, how strange, but biege seems to go with my coloring, making everything look gold and warm, and black and bright jewel tones make everything look dramatic.
Thank you for all of the work you are doing. It has helped enourmously.
Linda Henderson says
I tend toward blues, grays, blacks, and whites when choosing scarves. Thanks for your fashion ideas.
Merlin says
All the dresses you chose were gorgeous, I would wear all of them. I, like you, love black, so my favourite wardrobe is first one. I can not wait to see clothes in third accent color.
LD Siess says
I love your posts and have been following (and pinning) for some time – but before today, all my replies have been in my head only! I so appreciate how you help us to dream, plan, and play – and to see color and texture in new ways. Plus, your stories! I would love to read a compilation of your heroines, their wardrobes, and their adventures. Wishing you good health & happiness always. PS I’m enjoying dreaming about which scarf I like best!
Jane Ayers says
I love the first color combo with the Chrysalis Silk Square scarf . I’m not sure about the yellow gold in this selection but love the other colors. Thanks for all your hard work. I just used your 13 and clean to plan for a upcoming trip. It sure keeps me focused
c says
Thank you so much Janice. It has been so inspiring to watch as you build these beautiful wardrobes!
Kathleen says
Thank you, Janice, for the inspiration and the opportunity to win a beautiful Echo scarf, my favourite is the snowflake too.
Love your posts!
Linda McG says
I love scarves. It is fun to see how you style them for two reasons. I appreciate that you use a broad range of retail sources (I have bought from many at your suggestion especially Land’s End and LLBean) and you use warm and cool colors from tints to shades…something for every woman. Great ideas, thanks for your inspiration, and love these scarves!
Linda T says
I love dresses in the summer, so easy in the heat. Although, being on Canada’s West coast, nothing is cool enough when it’s over 40′. I love the ruana wardrobe and the mountain view equally and would have a hard time deciding which to get if I won. They are both so lovely.
Stacy Jo McDermott says
All the scarves are absolutely delish! I think though, if a person was to only allowed 2 scarves forever, the black colour way and the blue colour way would be so versatile throughout the year. Thank you Janice for pulling this together…now I know what I’m going to be doing this weekend – going through my scarf collection to re-create what you shared with us :-).
Steph says
I loved the blue patchwork the first time you created a capsule with it, but the mountain wrap has really grown on me
Melissa Rydjeski says
We were just looking at that gold J Crew dress. I like it because it’s not form fitting. Love all the wardrobes!
Sarah says
Ah, that blue patchwork still speaks my name. I have all those colors in my closet. The Wrap is really lovely, too. Thank you for this happy post, and thanks to you and Echo for a chance at a touch of elegance. Have a happy 4th!
Margit Aramburu says
Great ideas for travel wardrobe for trip to Cotswolds Gardens and Chelsea Garden Show in May 2022! All booked! Now need to dream of travel wardrobe, which always includes many scarves…
Shirley MacDonald says
I love these scarf posts, so entertaining! And also the capsule wardrobes give me so much to think about as I am planning my travel packing. Thanks so much for all your hard work!
Elizabeth says
The blue patchwork scarf is my favorite, and fits in beautifully with my wardrobe.
Thank you to you and Echo for this opportunity.
SShaw says
Firstly, amazing giveaway! How exciting. Echo has so many beautiful scarf designs. I am very drawn to the Silk Patchwork scarf in Blue Spruce or the In The Cards scarf in Denim Blue. They both have lovely designs and would suit my chosen wardrobe color wheel. If my number were to come up, one of those would be my choice.
Second, I am so glad you have decided to try to stick with the brown in the Chrysalis scarf capsule! The community found some good tips last month and if any one can pull it together, it’s you! Your choices for this month are both pretty and practical and I am so looking forward to seeing this one develop.
Sharon Reddick says
I love black! It really makes my light eyes pop. So glad to see a capsule of mainly black, and how to tie it together with a scarf! Thank you!
Sharon C says
I really like the wardrobe for the “summer” scarf. Love the colours and the pieces seem right for my new retirement lifestyle. Some of the other scarves / colour schemes are not my preferences (brown!) but I love seeing how you make them work.
Thanks for your blog!
Sharon
Eva Jakobsson says
No doubt, it is the patchwork scarf in blue.
Regards Eva
Victoria M says
I was so pleased when you chose Echo scarves this year. Not only are they beautiful, but they are also far more affordable than the scarves in previous years. I adore the ruana I bought from them!
Susan McKenna says
Love the navy Ralph Lauren dress! Looks comfortable, forgiving and elegant. I too have enjoyed perusing the Echo website and I think I am with you Janis, that “Snowflake” scarf would be my pick!
Shannon says
Thank you for giving brown a stay of execution. Autumn gals rejoice! ?
I love the “Tiger in the Grass” scarf and about ten others.
Paula Geisik says
The ruana is what I have been following. I also like the scarf with the navy and peach.
Sally in St Paul says
The Mountain View scarf is the one to beat, but I’m heavily tempted by the blue Tiger in the Grass and the Floating Floral.
The sparkling pink cardigan is a stand-out this month. It’s good to see a brown cardigan for that tricky capsule, and I am happy that the MV wardrobe has a white twin set now.
Lora says
I really like the last collection, the colors are so soft and pretty. But I notice you only have one green item. I love the first black scarf, and the 2nd collection also has pretty colors for Spring/Summer.
Christina says
Thanks for another great post. And to Echo which has turned me from a lurker to a commenter.
Shawn Lenaghan says
Find black dress grouping useful. Everyone has a black dress, even for summer. Love fashions on the blog but also your stories. Great writing.
Lucinda says
Thanks for continuing to search for browns, Janice! As a redhead, brown is one of my neutrals and I love seeing it incorporated into one of your wardrobes. I patiently await the day when “color influencers” decide it is back in vogue and selection returns to stores!
ProfP says
The purple wardrobe is very much my color scheme, but I’m not sure about the ruana. Were I to win, I’d pick the first scarf. Enjoy all of them! Thanks, Janice
Cat says
Tried several times to post on my phone but it didn’t seem to happen. Apologies in advance in case you get several posts.
I love the last wardrobe and the Mountain View scarf.
Virginia McCormick says
I LOVE your scarf inspirations and will say that I have purchased more than one scarf from Echo based on them. Thanks for all you do for us!
Amy says
I always look forward to the beginning of each month, the new additions are so much fun! I love the dresses; I seem to collect summer dresses and have to remind myself to wear them. The pecan knit dress with chocolate cardigan is such a wonderful combination. I have several chocolate pieces that I purchased a long time ago when they were readily available. I find dark brown to coordinate nicely with turquoise, beige, orange/pumpkin, and baby blue, my favorite. Oh, and olive, too! Thank you for the creamy, dreamy handkerchief hem dress with the pearls. I forget to wear my freshwater pearls. I’m going to pack them for my trip next week!
Catherine says
I’m torn between the Mountain View wardrobe and the one that’s the problem child. What a nice giveaway….thank you!
Catherine says
I’m torn between the Mountain View wardrobe and the one that appears to be a problem child. What a wonderful giveaway…..thank you!
Caryn says
I can only imagine the hours you put in to develop these wardrobes, and I truly appreciate your hard work. I have tried (unsuccessfully) to put together a workable wardrobe, but find living in Florida that cardigans, blazers, and the such just take up space and only get worn in February. Air conditioning is my friend, and I never need a second layer (actually the colder the better and a tank top is sufficient).
I’m now thinking, if I repeat the summer wardrobe 3x (although I’m still not sure how to replace 2nd layers), and add one fall wardrobe I might wind up with a workable wardrobe.
Do you have any thoughts on this?
Oh, and my wardrobe is mostly ivory, tan, olive, coral and denim, so the Patchwork Painted Floral Scarf would be my choice. Thank you for the opportunity!
Kate says
The ruana-based wardrobe just makes my heart SING. But that last wardrobe with the softer accent colours is also really speaking to me. I love that you’ve been doing these scarf-based wardrobes for us . . . it really helps me, in particular, be able to understand what building blocks I need to create and curate my own dream wardrobe!
Thank you to Echo for their exceedingly generous giveaway . . . and good luck to each one of us who’s entered to win. I hope whoever does win shares with us what was chosen . . . it always makes me smile to see what resonates with other people. (That said, there’s a soft iris coloured winter scarf that I have my eye on . . . and yes, my province is coming out of a heat wave . . . but one can never be too prepared for winter here in the ‘Great White North’! lol)?
TWYLT3 says
Such a dilemma on the wardrobes and scarves. The first wardrobe mostly matches my colors as does the third wardrobe. However I am always drawn to the orange patchwork wardrobe although I can’t wear one of those colors. It might be possible to wear the beige bisque dress which “is to die for.” The Mountain View scarf mostly fits my lifestyle but I would have to switch out the pink and green to my pinks and greens. Thanks to Echo and you for the promotion . It has obviously spurred on many of us who delay in making comments. I may send you an email as I have to plan a wardrobe for a cruise in August To circumnavigate Iceland and I am in a quandary as to just exactly what to take. Thanks again for all your work.
Carol Palmer says
Love all the dress ideas for summer and I would love a scarf with cool “summer” colors
Amanda Brandenberg says
I have much brighter accents, but my neutrals are gray and navy, so I think I’d go with the wrap. I’m also much more likely to wear a well I think.
Chris M says
I love the purple and would like to try a ruana, but the mountain wrap has lovely colors as well. Thank you!
Robin Hillyer Miles says
Thank you Echo!
I love the blue/teal/peach scarf.
But they are all lovely!
Lorraine says
Dear Janice,
Thank you for teaching us so clearly how to put together a wonderful working wardrobe. Navy is my neutral, and my problem is that every color goes with navy, except black, and I love them all!
My favorite scarf is the Chrysalis in Navy. Lots of happy colors for me.
Have a Joyous Fourth of July weekend.
Mary O.K. says
What a nice thing for Echo to do! I’ve been perusing their scarves and thinking about a retirement present for myself. If I won, I would choose the Mountain View wrap because it would inspire me to move my wardrobe in a more relaxed direction. Thank you for all the inspiration you provide!
Judith says
I purchased the blue patchwork scarf and also the orange red patchwork scarf. I love both wardrobes and this is my favorite post each month. I loved the Orange Red wardrobe, so much, I bought the Tiger in the Grass scarf. The Tiger in the Grass may be my all time favorite Echo scarf.
beth byrd says
What an absolutely lovely collection of dresses.
The pleated ivory one is my favorite. It is elegant and fun and a vintage-inspired.
Linda M says
At this point I like the second wardrobe best, but it may be that the neutrals are my choice in my current wardrobe rather than the selected accents.
Arwen77 says
Oh dear, today getting to the end of the comments was exhausting!!! But worth it, I just love to read everyone’s thoughts ❤️ I would struggle between orangey patchwork and mountain view, but would have to think if I love them for my wardrobe or if I love them because of the beautiful wardrobes you build!
TRUDY says
The black Chrysalis Square scarf is fantastic!!
Tracey says
The warm olive-based wardrobe are “my” colors except I would drop the pure red for more warm orange! I would love to own the Tiger in the Grass scarf!
Kay says
I’d really enjoy the Mountain View scarf – it seems especially fitting for my casual Colorado life! Thank you :)
Judy says
Personally I would love to see a travel wardrobe built around the “Tropical Floral” navy silk scarf on the Echo website.
Donna says
These are all so lovely…my favorites are the black chrysalis and the blue/aqua patchwork scarves (and the items you have selected for those two)! I would choose the blue/aqua patchwork scarf; lots of fabulous colors!
Lisa P. says
What a fun post! It’s hard to decide which I like most. I’m leaning towards the first one. They are all lovely!
Amanda Hudson says
My goodness you did get a lot of replies!! Mountain view is my favorite for it’s colorways. I love the 90% grey dress and the long Nordstrom cream one. Would wear either in a heartbeat.
Allison Aul says
I am very smitten with the navy and purple, but would never survive with only one accent colour. The black Chrysalis, with emerald green instead of golden yellow would be a good second choice for me.
Thank you for all you do. You are a constant inspiration.
Karen Hahn says
Wow! All GREAT choices! I love the purple, but the coral, cream, and green, are more for my skin tone. I really have taken to heart your 4X4 wardrobe. I have been clearing out almost everything and I feel so good about it.
I have chosen palazzo pants for dressy occasions, as having sciatica. Panty hose is not an option. But get so many great ideas from your post! Especially the shoes and scarfs.
Karen
Suzanne says
I’m still in love with the ruana. I think it would lovely against my recently transitioned white/grey hair.
Molly Olive says
I love a dress all year round but especially in summer!
My favorite scarf of the ones you’ve chosen is the blue patchwork.
I also like Springtime Patch and Hidden Treasure on the Echo website.
Rex says
My favourite keeps changing!! For wearability, olive and beige is top. Definitely cheering on the “Nemesis”, though. My summer neutrals have settled at light grey and beige, and I’ve been finding colours of the same depth work together well for me (dark brown sandals with dark grey fleece vs light grey tank and pale beige shorts).
Carla says
Janice! I continue to love your choices for the black/pink/purple wardrobe. That cardigan is the perfect shade of pink. Not too bright. Not too pale. Thanks.
Sharon says
I usually stick with my light summer colours of navy, grey and chambray as neutrals, but I do like black and light pink together, especially in a floral print. I particularly like the style of the first dress as it looks comfortable and easy to wear, just a shame it isn’t available in any other colours.
Lisa Laree says
My favorite wardrobe so far is the navy/purple, even though I likely would not wear the ruana much. Just such a nice combination! But there are several wardrobes I could wear this year…I’m enjoying how the additions are changed up from previous years.
Jenny B says
I’m torn between the Painted Patchwork Floral in the summertime colors or the Mountain View wrap and its softened hues. They both call to me in different ways. And then I look back over the plaid ruana and black chrysalis scarf sets and I double clutch. So hard to choose!
Becky says
I love the Mountain View Wrap. I’d love a personalized wardrobe plan with those colors!
Norma Paschich says
Wow, so many comments (entries). Janice, you should be so proud. Anything purple or teal always sings to me
Patricia Lilly says
I love the scarf based wardrobes, and the addition of the dresses is perfect. Many thanks to Echo for sponsoring the contest today.
Susan says
I keep telling myself, NO MORE SCARVES! But I can’t resist. Love the first scarf on the black background. Feeling lucky
Char says
The purple wardrobe is the one I would wear ( I have that ruana in navy with a touch of the purple), but I am always drawn to the wardrobes with olive. I can wear olive if it is the cool grayish olive but not the warmer olive that is more commonly available.
Rebecca A says
The Mountain View wrap is still my favorite. I have been building my wardrobe all year based on the wrap with many of the suggestions that you have made. This month, I think I need to upgrade the dress to something a bit more elegant — like the shape of the Ralph Lauren in a navy or gray. Thanks so much for this blog, Janice. It has really helped me curate a beautiful wardrobe without breaking the bank!
Kris Th29 says
I continue to be drawn to both of the Patchwork wardrobes, as those are all the colors I put in my closet.
Decisions, decisions…
Nancy says
I’m liking the blue patchwork scarf outfits. The blue dress and sweater look comfortable and hang well. Thank you for your inspirations.
Celeste says
The scenery wrap would blend right into my wardrobe. I should tell you that I’ve been narrowing down my wardrobe with your guidance for about two years and last weekend I had a true “whatever’s clean” moment. We moved into a new house and the clothes washer broke after one month. So last weekend I needed to get ready for church even though I hadn’t washed clothes for about two weeks. I literally pulled out a pair of pink capris, a navy/pink print sleeveless blouse, and a white layering piece. I never would have put them together otherwise, but after narrowing my colors down I could put together an outfit under trying circumstances and not look too clownish. Thanks for the inspiration.
Cyndi says
Wow there are a lot of comments, it will be really fun to read through them.
First I wanted to thank you Janice for fixing the blog so I get it in the morning. It’s just grand to open my email and there it is. Sorry I didn’t tell you sooner, but I have been so busy packing for our trip, and reading your posts about packing, that I flailed to say a big THANK YOU!
juliet brown says
Particularly love the first scarf, but all the outfits with all the scarves give loads of food for thought. I am a total sucker for a scarf so naturally I am going to love this post
Erin Roy says
Yay! I like when you add dresses to the monthly wardrobes. I like the first black dress from LL Bean. I have a dressy LBD and a knot, casual LBD. My favorite scarf is still the Mountain View wrap. I wear a lot of jeans and denim shorts so it would complement them.
Erin Roy says
Knit LBD. Knit. Ugh! Big thumbs little letters.
Ann Hicks says
Hi Janice, I am loving this series. My favorite scarf is the tiger scarf. Thank you for all you do!
All the best,
Ann
Diana says
My favourite post of the month and a giveaway. What could be better? Love the wardrobe with the pinks and purple.
AK says
So, I was racing through an airport when I read and commented earlier, but I want to comment on your last scarf/capsule. I think one of the greatest services you do for your readers is to show how a dress can be dressed up and dressed down. The more decorative features added to dresses, the more limited they are. It’s gratifying to see your beautiful examples showing how a simpler dress can be so versatile.
Jeanne says
That purple ruana just screams at me! I love it. Your wardrobe combos are amazing!
D. Reilly Smith says
Loving the colors in the blue scenery inspired wrap (last capsule). It keeps calling to me. And I love to follow the capsule you are building around it.
Mary says
My style is different than most of these selections, but the way you put together wardrobes has been really helpful for me.
Carol Ghio says
The bright and warm palette scarf is my dream come true. I have followed you for years and love that you live in my hometown of Chicago. I am a San Diegan now and miss the class of the Midwest and the friendliness of all the people there. You have made my packing life infinitely easier, and I thank you for all of the lessons learned!
Michelle says
The mountain blue and grey has always been my favourite this year. I like the idea of a casual dress, but the arm holes on the dress you chose are not for the faint of heart, or mature breasts! I’m sure I can find something similar. Thanks for the inspiration as usual!
Diana says
Thank you for working on these wardrobes, I look forward every week to see what you have in store for us.
The Mountain wrap is ago for what I normally wear, but that purple wardrobe WOW! The colours all blend so well. So it is a very hard question.
Thank you Echo.
Alice says
I’m still in love with the brown Chrysalis scarf and I’m so happy you decided to stick with that wardrobe! Brown is tough but it can be very rewarding when you finally manage to put together a well-curated wardrobe and find out you don’t look like anybody else :)
I love your choice of dresses too! Skirts and dresses are pretty much all I’m wearing this summer, as I seem to be suffering more than usual from the heat.
If any of you have been caught in the heatwave, remember to drink as much water as possible and to frequently cool down your pulse points (wrists, neck, temples, the inside of your elbows and knees, …), where the skin is thinner and the blood vessels sit closer. Stay safe!
Beth T says
Thanks for the tip about cooling pulse points. We may get a heatwave at some point this summer. I just stay indoors or in the shade.
Beth T says
Wow, this must be getting on for a record of comments! It’s taken me two big mugs of tea to read them all.
It’s great that people who’ve not commented before have taken the opportunity. I hope they continue to join in.
Still love the purple ruana wardrobe but if I could choose a scarf to add to my collection it would be the Mountain View as these softer blues and teal are definately the direction my wardrobe is going in. If I could choose from all the Echo scarves, it would be the Natural Swirl in Lapis Blue.
The pink sparkly scarf is perfect for a summer wedding. I have a lilac cardigan and a grey cardigan with tiny embellishments. Just lifts them from the ordinary without being over the top. Three navy dresses seem a bit heavy for July. My choice would have been to choose an accent colour or patterned sundress or tea dress to lighten the mood. The second set of dresses hit the mark perfectly, particularly the cream dress. I used to have an mint green crinkle dress which was so easy to wear, form fitting without being tight. The corduroy shirt seems a bit autumnal but it does look great with the grey. I would have chosen a purple dress or a patterned one. I’d love to see some purple in the first wardrobe and more aqua in the Patchwork Blue (so far confined to one tee and accessories. Glad you are perservering with brown but still think that emerald green would be a better accent than purple.
Thanks for all you do, Janice. Yesterday, I was able to advise a teenager on how many items to pack for a 5 day trip. She’ll probably take more than she needs ‘for choice’ but I didn’t even have to think about it. thanks to you.
Nadia says
Wow! What amazing scarves. Thanks for finding all these great clothes and putting together such practical ideas
Jackie Scott says
Janice, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the first scarf’s color palette! Those are some of “my” chosen wardrobe accent colors (except for yellow, which looks horrid with my skin tone) and black and grey are my preferred neutrals (I never wear navy). I especially love that short-ish v-neck embellished cardigan as it doesn’t scream “Old Lady sweater”. (I hope that company has more colors and some patterned cardigans of that style!) I would LOVE to see a capsule wardrobe in those colors because I would buy those in a heartbeat.
Thanks for all this work — and have a lovely holiday weekend.
Debra says
I like the scenery-inspired wrap.
Jean Speer says
I’m enjoying your posts. I especially like the Patchwork Sea Blue capsule.
Shrebee says
Janice,
I am late to this party , but I am loving the two different color ways of the patchwork scarves ! You have made these collections so versatile so that if I were to repeat one, I could be wearing a completely different outfit every day ! Loving this and how fabulous of Echo to be doing this promotion !
Shrebee says
And that tiger scarf is calling my name !
Jackie Katz says
I love Echo scarves and designs! I even have an Echo shower curtain. I love all the scarves you have featured this year but if I have had my eye on the Abstract Landscape Oblong in Chambray Echo scarf for the longest time. I would love to win it and have you feature it on The Vivienne Files.
Beverly says
I love the purple Ruana and Mountain View capsules. I was so excited to see the purple corduroy jacket show up. I just noticed LL Bean added several garments in the purple mist color and wondered how it would look in the capsule- wonderful !! I see some purple mist in my future ?. If I were to win a scarf it i would choose the Natural Swirl – so pretty !! Thanks so much Janice for all these wonderful posts!!
Pamela Holmes says
I have loved following along with all of these posts! The first scarf, black with the butterflies has all of the colors I wear the most!
Diane says
That purple wardrobe just makes me swoon. I’m working on building just such a more relaxed retirement wardrobe.
Susan S says
These are beautiful. Thanks to you and Echo for the promotion.
Linda in SD, CA says
The last wardrobe is how I dress – casual, muted, with a little color thrown in. I’ve had the Echo scarf Natural Swirl bookmarked for a long time and as many have mentioned would appreciate seeing a wardrobe built around it.
Sarah says
I love the ivory dress! I would definitely choose it for a special occasion.
Of the scarves you feature I like the mountain view best and it suits the navy and white I’m wearing a lot of, but perusing the echo site I also love the Naive Leaf Cut Back Jacquard Wrap in Chilli.
It is a good job I am in the UK and its not always easy to buy because your selections always include something to tempt me.
Dena says
Definitely the last one for me. Despite the wardrobe giving in to the orange everywhere trend, everything else is perfect. And my wardrobe leans pretty heavily to the purple-blue-green end of the color spectrum so it will get a lot of wear!
Sue Walker says
It’s taken me a while to read through all the comments (I’m keeping an eye on the Ukraine v England football match at the same time!) but it’s been great to see what others think. I love these Echo scarves and have enjoyed seeing how the wardrobes progress every month. If I was lucky enough to win, I think I’d choose the Swirling Paisley Square in Passionflower, as red is my feel good colour. I’m hoping to visit my family in London in October, so a capsule based on that scarf would be brilliant! Thanks to Echo for their generous offer and to you, Janice, for your inspiring posts.
TinaD says
Still enamored of the black and pink, although I’m warming to the navy wardrobe…
How is it you are supposed to be able to tell if black or navy is a better neutral for you?
Janice says
Personal preference, I would think…
Hugs,
Janice
Biddy says
Black can be very draining for a lot of people if that’s the case try navy.
Kathleen Ognibene says
So many stunning combinations. I am a long-time scarf fan and now I have to wipe the drool spots off my screen.
Cheryl :) says
It’s hard to pick a favorite but I think if I had to choose it would be the purple wardrobe. I love this series. Thanks for all you do.
Elizabeth Harrison says
I love the black and floral scarf with the pink accents! And I love what you do with these scarves. I never wore scarves at all until you inspired me! Thanks for being your creative self!
Beth Harrison
Christine flanagan says
Love all the beautiful outfits and scarves!
Pandora says
This series is intriguing as each wardrobe has elements that I can learn from. While my preference is the slightly more elegant style of the first grouping, the mountain view wardrobe colour palette has a softness that’s timeless. Janice, it’s always a pleasure to read and re-visit your posts!
Amy says
I love both the olive and mountain view wardrobes. I’m still getting used to my undyed hair after growing it out during quarantine. For the first time in my life, I am a brunette! Blonde as a child and 20 years of dying it red have left me unprepared. A new scarf may help me figure this out.
Cynthia says
I am a blue girl, tried & true! Because of your advice, my wardrobe has decreased to the colors I love, thus navy is my staple/neutral. If I won, I would choose scarf #2. Thanks for the dress ideas- dresses are perfect for summertime.
Theresa says
So many beautiful colors ~ they make me so happy!
Linda in Bluffton says
The fourth collection really speaks to me as a fun summer capsule that covers all the bases … can be neutral or colorful, can be casual or a bit more dressy, can handle hot or air conditioning. Well done! Fun to see all the posts!
Pam welch says
Oh my! What a treat it would be to own a new scarf! And to have a wardrobe built around it by You! Double treat!
Jordan says
These are so fun, I’m really in love with that long grey dress, especially with the hoodie and sneakers. I don’t wear grey because it brings out the bags under my eyes very badly, but now I want to copy that look with some ivory or olive.
teri says
Each month I choose a different favorite. gosh I love colors! Echo blue patchwork scarf is my summer favorite.
Your posts help me when packing for a trip.
thank you!
Susan C. says
Love that orange dress!
Frances says
The Echo scarves are all beautiful. I would most likely choose the Blooms of Oceania silk scarf. I have a couple of vintage Echo scarves which are beautiful too. Your blog is so interesting and enjoyable Janice.
Susanne Smith says
All the scarves are gorgeous! I would select Blooms Of Oceania Silk Square in Rose Pink.
Kathryn says
I just bought an Echo scarf from Talbots to work some coral accents into my wardrobe. So many pretty options on the Echo website – I have been eyeing the Chrysalis in navy, but the Blooms of Oceania is also tempting,
Linda Black says
I have been following your blog for years! One of my favorites, you have been so helpful with putting simple chic outfits together also very good for packing for trips. I’ve also got addicted to scarfs because of you Susan After sixty❤️❤️❤️
Carol says
Ah, of course! One of the rare times I “save up” a couple of posts to enjoy having a longer reading session of your blog, I miss a giveaway. I love this series. I find it so interesting seeing the different color palettes and moods next to each other.
Janice says
Actually, you were just in the nick of time – I JUST did the drawing!
