I’ve received some requests to add accent colors to grey – I’m always happy to try to oblige!
ROAD TRIP!!!
Yes, they’re going to visit a BUNCH of gardens… For about 2 weeks or so! They’re going to rent a camper (oh my…) and go to all of the places they’ve talked about visiting for years.
It’s quite casual – touring these gardens doesn’t require getting dressy! But she loves her color palette so…
She’s going to stick with her core of grey garments, and then add 2 clusters of color…
She packs some warm teal tops, and then decides to include her tee shirt with floral prints… Why not?
Her coral garments vary from very soft and pastel to deep, almost rust. And she decides to pack a dress, but a sweatshirt dress!
She doesn’t have to worry much at all about taking too many clothes – the camper has all KINDS of space! But she draws the line here; this certainly looks sufficient, doesn’t it?
She’s quite confident with this wardrobe – so long as she doesn’t recklessly mix her coral and teal garments, she can pretty much get dressed in the dark! That’s always good…
Warm, soft, comfortable and pretty – what else could a garden-loving woman want for a road trip?
Maybe a BIG section of the camper set aside for seedlings and plants? Living souvenirs are always the best kind…
love,
Janice
p.s. Four years ago, I thought up FOURTEEN different ways to accessorize a navy dress, using muted colors. I love these dress posts…

That floral t-shirt sings to me. I could see a travel capsule based on any of the blocks on the front of it, and it’s perfect with my grey/navy/yellow/pink wardrobe.
I love florals anyway, and I feel like I missed Spring this year.

I feel like I’ve missed both spring and summer; I suspect a lot of us do! Things like floral tee shirts are our substitutes, this year…

Goodness me, Janice you must be a mind-reader. Whilst answering work emails and currently looking at some amazing photographs of bakers at work, I’m mentally and visually pondering my holiday wardrobe. The art of multi-tasking!
My colours will be navy and grey with teal and cameo pink/plum accents plus ivory and very pale grey as light neutrals. I have yet to look at the clothes and do a 4×4 but I know what I will choose. I have a navy blouse with teal and cameo pink flowers on it which will bridge the accents.
I’m also not averse to wearing a pink and teal floral/patterned skirt with a teal jumper or top as long as the tonal values are similar.
I’ve also decided, after receiving lots of compliments from my husband and son over recent days, that plum/purple and fuschia/amethyst pink /lilac pink will feature as a blended capsule with grey/silver in my autumn/winter wardrobe just I have heather purple, light grey and orchid/lilac in the summer.
Today, I had an online coffee break with colleagues. I am wearing plum jersey trousers, a plum and fuschia floral tee and a fuschia 3/4 sleeve cardigan plus plum floral socks.
However I still have grey fluffy slippers on my feet! I came downstairs as my husband emerged from the study – very complimentary. Went into the lounge – ditto from son.
I need a few pieces to fill some gaps – winter cords- but already, it is making me feel happy at having a year round wardrobe in my favourite colours ? All I need now is an extra wardrobe…
Janice says
It all sounds both beautiful and flattering – the best of all possible wardrobes!

Janice

Beth T : what great color combos! I envy the quantity of purple/plum in your closet. Mine always seem to turn into orphans-you have given me some good ideas.

OMG I can’t tell you how much I love these colors. I used to wear them all, but have migrated to different colors since going gray. Doesn’t mean I can’t totally love this wardrobe. THanks for a bright spot in my tech day!

I knew I was in for a good time when I saw the color palette. Stunning! I would love to see this wardrobe accessorized.
I don’t think I’ve worn these 3 colors together, but now I know I MUST try it. I have a scarf that would be perfect–a black “pen and ink” drawn trees/owls scene with shades of grey and coral washed over it. It lacks the dark teal of the painting, but I will definitely try it with a grey, coral, and dark teal outfit.
Now to ponder whether I prefer the dark teal sweatshirt or the lighter teal one…

I’d love to see accessories too. Thinking off the top of my head, I have a teal ‘roomy’ handbag and a teal cross body bag and a grey tote. Teal, grey and pink scarves. Lots of pink jewellery and a floral watch. My shoes and boots are grey, navy or black.

Happy to see your choices of clothes from Lands End and L.L. Bean, where I purchase the bulk of my clothes…reliable quality and reliable fit. I’m retired and casual clothing for shopping, casual dining, mallwalking and at home are what I wear most, and we’re 75 miles from the nearest large city. Even before the pandemic I was shopping online.

This is lovely! Teal and gray are mainstays of my cold weather wardrobe, although I am always looking for more staples in charcoal. And I’d totally combine coral and teal, especially with some “bridging” accessories. – nancyo

Janice, I love your stories almost as much as I love your wardrobes!

Coral & teal love to be recklessly mixed! Seriously, I find there’s no wrong way to mix them. Beautiful art as always!

The way I stumbled on how coral & teal always go together is the Native American jewelry I love frequently pairs turquoise that’s anywhere from deep, aged turquoise or green turquoise with coral that’s anywhere from the deep, almost rust color in this wardrobe to pale pink coral–it all works together.
Sally in St Paul says
Megan, I hadn’t thought of that, but of course you’re absolutely right. The traditional coral/turquoise/silver combination would also be perfect in this wardrobe.

This is so gorgeous and a beautiful transition wardrobe for both fall and spring!

Beautiful, and what a good idea for a roadtrip! A theme is a good thing, and I love road trips.
One year DH and I did a hot springs road trip around British Columbia; we have many here. Not that i have done it, but the idea of a camper or rv means you aren’t living out of a suitcase.
Teal is one of my go-to’s since you introduced it with navy a few years ago. I have saved some snaps from your 12 months 12 outfits 2016, navy and teal and it still is relevant; grey is easily substituted for navy. With some of us taking this covid year to let our natural grey hair shine through, we can match our wardrobe to our colouring!

I am about to start a 4-6 week RV trip. I am taking whole starting from scratch capsule wardrobe. Only 1 dress and 1 skirt though. I figured I have 77 outfits. Probably overkill but laundry may be a problem. Navy, black, teal and pink are my colors. Thanks for all you inspiration.
