Calm, subtle, with just a touch of vivid red!
She’s Been Brave for Months…
And now that she’s free to travel again, she’s just going to sit… She’s going to go to her favorite city, go to an outdoor table at a café, order coffee, and watch the world go back to work…
I’m not usually a fan of logo scarves, but this one is so subtle that I’m including it…
She’s going to travel during the week so that she can see the city come back to life; she’s going to dine out, and pour her modest travel budget back into the economy!
She doesn’t want to be terribly conspicuous, and she’s not concerned about getting wildly dressed up…
Oh bother, I forgot to include 1 of the scarves!
She’s been a heroine for months; now she’s going to be a travel heroine – small bag, beautiful outfits, delight in every aspect of her destination!
Just a few days of peace, calm, and ordinary life; it sounds so appealing, doesn’t it?
love,
Janice
p.s. 3 years ago, we shared another very subtle (and quite expensive) travel capsule wardrobe, based on La Grande Odalisque by Ingres.

Hello Janice! First I want to say I love the Vivienne Files! It gives me ideas on how to mix and match colors and outfits that are very creative. As of today in New York state, EVERYthing is closed- bars, restaurants, schools, museums and we are all practicing staying 6 feet away from each other. Many of not all educational institutions are conducting online/distance learn ing for students. So can you suggest a non-adventurous but creative wardrobe for those of who will be meeting/teaching onscreen? Thank you.

Morning Janice, I so look forward to M, W, and Friday for your posts :) Wondering where you fall in the whole color analysis business? Seems like there are a multitude of theories you could subscribe to. I just love your use of color and accessories. Thank you!

Janice,
Just please keep providing your heroine stories that remind us that traveling and eating out shall happen again — eventually —— sigh ! And when they do, how luxurious they shall feel — what we have taken for granted, eh ?
Your posts are a bright note in a dark time and a wonderful way to distract us from the current mutual situation. Thanks for the light thoughts to start the day !
Be well, my friend !

Janice,
While physically isolating, I am shopping my closet, trying to come up with clusters or modules within the larger wardrobe capsule concept. Would you consider reviewing that framework of a bottom or two, 3 -4 tops, and a topper or two, using two neutrals , one light, one dark , and perhaps an accent top ? Or even the very basic of one bottom, 2 tops, one topper, and then extending it ?
Thanks !

Great idea – that would help me. When I’m not ‘working’, my wardrobe beckons…

I love green and I wear a lot of green so this post has been a wonderful way to start the day. Thank you. Yes, we will so much more appreciate sitting in a cafe, someday soon.

From tomorrow, I am working at home. It’s important to wear the right clothes. I normally wear casual clothes and trousers to work and at home. In order to demarcate my time as I ‘go to work’ in the spare room, I have decided to up my game and wear my skirts, nice blouses and dresses with court shoes or flats. Feeling a bit glamourous will cheer me up and give an airing to things I only wear on occasions. The good news is that my butcher, local restaurants and breweries are offering deliveries!

I’m taking the same course of action. Sitting here working in a very nice dress and ballet flats. If I was at the office I’d be accused of going on an interview. Silly children – I’m not wearing a suit!

I was thinking the same thing, not in small part because my “casual” wardrobe is rather small compared to my “work” wardrobe. But it’s also nice to have a marker of a workday vs. weekend.
Janice, this post brought tears to my eyes -I fervently hope we’ll be living through this scenario soon. Stay strong everyone.
Geri says
Thanks for sending us a lovely travel capsule and most especially hope, Janice.

Thank you for keeping our schedule normal and continuing your routine. I looked forward to seeing what today would bring on VF, but understand there may be variation in content as the days go on.
I like that you did a green and red wardrobe combination that doesn’t scream “Christmas”. It helps to see those traditional holiday color schemes tweaked in shading and tones to be used in more subtle ways.
Thank you Fierce Lynx for providing the color inspiration! It is a beautiful bracelet!
Blessings to everyone!

Hi Janice,
Thank you for this, we look forward to your posts and the upbeat stories. I am in a situation, of having church services out in a field.
With the separation/isolation we are sending out services over the internet, but talking about our Easter service being outside. I would normally wear skirts/dresses to church as I am the Minister’s wife.
Any suggestions would be welcome as it is still chilly on Vancouver Island and I need to look smart. No pants and of course no heels on a field.
Blessings to you all at this time
Thanks

Please wear warm clothes. Needs must dictate that you wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions and
underfoot. Wide-leg culottes with a blouse and jumper under a Wear a coat and long boots. However, wouldn’t bringing people together, even in a field, be risking everyone’s health? In the UK all Easter services and parades of all denominations have been cancelled. Many churches are already streaming podcast sermons to their members. By Easter we will be in the thick of it.
Diana says
Yes! We will not be getting together in the field for Easter, very sad no bagpipes, instead we are to continue to send out over the internet.
Thanks for the suggestion of boots. Love the idea of culottes, I-think I will try them once we are back in to Church services again.

At first viewing I didn’t see the green here. All I noticed was red and grey on my monitor. I like the idea of a subtle, neutral capsule with small doses of color. I built my last vacation capsule around a beaded bracelet and it worked very well. -Lily

Such a lovely little narrative for a lovely bracelet. I’d be tempted…but I treated myself to a Fierce Lynx bracelet last week that is en route even now, so I have to resist a second one so soon. Maybe I should make a theoretical travel wardrobe based on the one that’s coming? Hmmm…..
Elizabeth says
Like many here, I found the travel narrative very soothing. I hope we hear about lots of heroines who’ve weathered a storm and are having a lovely time traveling/dining/getting married in the next few months.
Kristi says
Thank you – I love the stories as much as the wardrobe ideas! Hope all of your family is healthy and managing ok!
We all need some healthy distraction in this crisis – with much appreciation for all you do, always.

This story warms my heart for obvious reasons, thank you. Someday it will be in the “X years ago” link!

Good point, Alice!

I too saw the neutral as grey. Never mind, it is a relaxed, calm travel capsule with pretty options. Just the kind of post we need, and with something to look forward to. My island is requiring self-isolation for all non-essential incomers and it won’t be long before it is required of all of us. So that’s been a big influence on my 3-monthly changeover this weekend, and this travel capsule was useful inspiration!
Margery says
I love that soft greyed out deep celadon green shade with the cooler ivory. Another gorgeous neutral base. It would go with almost anything in the rose tones, pinks, blush, coral or wine and reds as shown. Simply beautiful.
