Oooh….
Who needs lots of colors, when you have THESE????
The Manuscript Will be Available…
For just a few days… She’s going to be there lecturing for a week; it could NOT have been better timing!
She plans what she will pack – she knows that once she’s there, she won’t want to think about clothes, so she’s making it pretty much foolproof.
Days in the Manuscript Conservation Room will be casual, completely with white gloves! And the lectures will be a little bit more dressy; she’s quite certain that some professors there will sit in…
Since navy is her neutral, she knows that she wants to start here:
Since she’s finally going to unlock the secrets hidden in that most elusive document, she realizes that her Thoughtful Lynx bracelet is the perfect choice to inspire her travel capsule wardrobe!
How very different everything looks when you toss in some beautiful green!
And then the fun – accessories!
She’s having trouble concentrating – she’s really that excited! But she takes a deep breath and arranges her things on her sofa before she carefully packs…
She’s quite happy with this – relaxed, warm things to wear when studying, pretty things to wear when teaching!
If she finds what she’s hoping for in the manuscript, her next book will be a positive landmark in the world of literary criticism!
love,
Janice
p.s. 4 years ago, our heroine spent her entire retention bonus on a romantic long weekend with her sweetheart…

Love these colors. I thank you so much for the Whatever’s Clean 13 template. I’m going to mid-Maine week after next to try to catch the peak foliage. I’m trying for the first time to pack one carry-on and one personal item. I printed out the template and then printed a “contact” sheet of likely clothing to trim into tiny photos that I can try on the template to choose which to pack.

I love your idea of the photos! I started a whatever’s clean 13 template for a trip to Europe in October. I love the idea of pictures!!
Love all the navy options in this vignette. I’m moving from black to navy (slowly!!) and my green is a warmer olive.
The bracelet is fantastic!

I had a friend whose entire wardrobe was made of two colours: navy and white. That was 30 years ago, she was working on a capsule collection before the term even existed. Her rationale was that she did not have to bother about how to dress: everything matched.
This particular post with the navy base reminded me of her. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Back in the 70s my aunt used to vacation with only red, white and blue items for the same reasons! She also was using a capsule wardrobe long before we all knew how great they were!
JoAnna says
Oh, my! I swoon because these are MY colors right now! I go for a more olive/sage kind of green, but I love every item in this wardrobe. So beautiful!
Jennifer says
Me too!!! Would you happen to have olive green eyes with a touch of navy at the very rim of the iris? I think that’s why I gravitated to navy myself. And why I’ve struggled for years to wear green. I wasn’t wearing the right shade and it would clash with my eyes. Although I adore this particular combo that Janice has designed.
JoAnna says
You made me look in the mirror, LOL! No, my eyes are golden brown with flecks of amber. I guess I just like the earthiness of Olive!

This is a gorgeous capsule!!! Navy is such a fantastic neutral-it’s easy to imagine accents in so many other colors as well. I just adore this.

Janice,
Would you create a Start with a scarf: Unicorn in Captivity 4 by 4 wardrobe for us. Or even a Start with Art: Unicorn in Captivity Tapestry wardrobe using this new beautiful creation from the Met. I bet it sells out for Christmas. Thank you.
Janice says
I would love to; thanks for the idea!
Hugs,
Janice

If this arrived in my closet (complete with the accessories) I would be thrilled. Love the colors, shapes and style. It is amazing to me that every one of your posts teaches me something and that every now and then the whole post is totally me. After 3 years of following you (a highlight of my day) my wardrobe is more focused, my shopping focused AND minimized and I am happier with how I look. The WTW has been sourced from my closet with much mixing and matching of silhouettes with regard to how they fit my lifestyle. Love the bracelets. Thanks for all you do.
AK says
I’m with you, Eileen, on all of the above. I can afford to be patient to get exactly what I want-with all that I’ve learned from Janice. Has anyone noticed that certain fashion sales people aren’t exactly pleased with our specificity when we’re shopping? (LOL.) But-wow! It’s so satisfying to focus on a plan and have it work so well!!!

By the way, there is a full page illustration in the Met’s Holiday catalogue of this scarf on page 19.

These bracelets are wonderful – pretty, natural, hand-crafted, and they can be used to pull together outfits from a range of colours. I’m sold!

I fell in love with this month’s bracelet right away. While browsing through Land’s End I came across a few items in China Blue. That was suggested as the best color for me years ago. Do you think that China Blue would be considered as one of the colors in the bracelet?
Alison says
China Blue would be lovely with this bracelet set!

Oh, so many problems putting this capsule together.
I already have a base in navy, dark denim, and gray. I love the blue. I haven’t worn green since wearing it for eight years in grade school! Time to give it a try. I have a furnace in my body that runs hot all the time. In the colder weather I wear t-shirts with an open sweater or long sleeve t-shirt with a vest. I don’t wear blouses because I’m too busty to get them to fit right.
So the issues that I have had:
(1) Backorder on the bracelet.
(2) Forgot that I lost my navy cardigan that matched the navy shell, skirt, and dress.
(3) China blue: found only the Lands’ End cardigan.
(4) Emerald green: found only short sleeve t-shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, and an open long cardigan. No shoes.
(5) Found one scarf with green, blue, and navy except it’s on a white background.
(6) Navy: ordered Lands’ End long cardigan, skirt, and pants. Too small! Need to exchange.
Had a “fashion show” the other day with my daughter. She helped me decide what needed to be returned and what outfits went together. I think I can put together some outfits by pulling out some other colors. Still waiting on that bracelet!

This is such a great capsule! Navy and teal are my two main colors and I love that bracelet so much I just bought it. And that Hermès scarf is on my short list for the FW19 collection.

I usually think of navy + kelly + white as a fresh summer combination, but you’ve made it look rich and warm – perfect for cooler weather! – nancyo

June is my bracelet! I realized then and there that denim (including chambray), golden brown (sand, natural, khaki) & light grey were my neutrals. I have been an avid reader of VF for many years so very slow in coming around.
I even bought the pdf of 3 neutrals. This file has really helped me. I have grey-blue eyes hence the denim. I have orange based skin hence the golden brown. My universal neutral (& one day my hair colour) is light grey.
Thank you for this series.

Ok, I’ve just found your blog a few months ago, and I have been very impressed. With your Philosophy when it comes to wardrobe choices. And it helped me Immensely For the choices I made for the 28 day cruise I am on now. We have been to Ireland, Scotland, and U.K. and now we were in Portugal, France and Spain. On our way back across to Florida, and 8 sea days so I had time to read more and I was reading a back-post where you said that it would be fun to put a wardrobe together for a year. I would love to see if you could put together a wardrobe for a world cruse. The cruise is 112 days long and experiences all the seasons.
Thanks
Antiquelady

Oh, those boots. Even if I had the money, I don’t know how I’d pick a colour!

I received my first fierce lynx bracelet for my birthday this year. I have navy as one of my neutrals. This is a perfect example for me to begin from. Thank you!
