Even though the days are still lovely and warm in Chicago, the rational part of my mind knows full well that it’s wise to start planning for winter!
In all fairness, the cotton version of these turtlenecks aren’t particularly dressy! But if you need something a bit more formal, consider looking for merino wool turtlenecks; they’re light and lovely…
For those of us who live in cold climates, layering these tops under another sweater is the single best way to stay warm. And I like the way they look; they frame your face nicely…
A simple, light color can be very versatile…
Blending shades of a color is always nice…
Your light neutral might not be white or ivory, right?
If you are concerned about wearing too much black near your face, a white turtleneck breaks up the pervasive darkness…
If you’re not sure that it’s a good day to be wearing green, adding a bit of lightness might make it easier!
Sometimes, it’s just pretty….
Now, if we slot this turtleneck into your wardrobe, in the place of the first long-sleeved tee shirt, you still have a lovely, coherent capsule wardrobe. And of course you’re not limited to just 13 garments; you could keep any number of garments in your “current” wardrobe…
I’m working on this – I always have too many clothes. I find it cathartic, if somewhat difficult, to clean out my closets. And you?
love,
Janice
p.s. 3 years ago I showed how lovely “A Hint of Hibiscus” is when worn with a variety of neutral colors

I see where you are going with this! Could you show us a list of the 13 items as you did with the first set? I like to preview. As for too many clothes, I used to struggle with that. Too easy to buy things, I guess. Then we took a year to live in a motor home and it pretty much cured me. That was five years ago and I still really prefer a small wardrobe. I guess I am a minimalist at heart.

I agree! I was hoping to see a full list of the next 13 items as well.

I will when i’m back in Chicago; currently I’m in Kilkenny Ireland!

I look forward to your weekly post as I am having so much fun with this. I have done Project 333 and Whatever’s Clean 13 for so long that the idea of over filling my closet and seriously paying attention to comfort and style has inspired me every day of my newfound retirement. Thank you.

This is the first time in this series, that I have not had an item! I don’t care for turtlenecks, and I currently live in a warm climate. I agree with you, however, that nothing else keeps you cozy like a turtleneck layered under another shirt. By the way, I am really enjoying this series!

I do not wear turtlenecks either. Not only do I feel choked on them, they are just too hot! It is 86 degrees in the sunny south this morning and the temperatures will be in the upper 90s the remainder of the week! I have to remind myself that Janice lives in a different climate than I do and just enjoy the stories and beauty she weaves together without thinking I have to follow it. I’m thinking her weekly wardrobe for fall would do well for me for winter- as long as I keep a “cluster” of warm weather clothes for those summer days in winter months!

I love this whole series. Will you be doing accessories?
Janithece says
I think so…

Janice

I second the idea of covering also accessories (especially scarves and jewelry) in this series.

I am another nonwearer of the turtleneck. I would simply use the light neutral top under a sweater. I rarely feel that cold to require double layers. Love this series have shopped my closet for each item. You have a wonderful gift of creating these wardrobes and your faithful readers appreciate your dedication. I have previously mentioned I would love to see accessories to go with the Weekly Wardrobe series.

Almost have it memorized.
Thank you, Janice

Thank you so much for this series. I really enjoy seeing the different color ways and outfits you style with each new piece. It helps me to visualize what will work for my own wardrobe.

I am not a fan of turtlenecks, either, but I still love the way you have styled it in this series. It almost makes me want to add one to my wardrobe.

A white silk knit may be a dressier choice – but I love my basics!
