It Finally Dawned on Her…
If she just carried her tote bag onto the plane, she could take the really cheap airline to visit her family. And since she visits them every few weeks, her savings could start to add up quickly! So she asked her mother if she could leave some clothes in the guest bedroom…
(no prizes for guessing the answer…)
So now, she can wear whatever appeals to her during her flight, and keep a stash of hot-weather clothes down there!
Her color palette is very muted, so she can wear the same things frequently and not be madly conspicuous. Not as if anybody in her family would ever notice, or comment!
For her current trip, this is what she will have at her disposal. Another trip might change everything, if she wears something different on the flight!
Because the weather changes only slightly through the year down there, she won’t need to really worry about a winter wardrobe!
All she needs to do is toss some undergarments (and maybe a swimsuit) into her tote bag, as well as a few toiletries, and she’s ready to go! That’s really reassuring in the case of an emergency…
And yes, this does bear a striking resemblance to how I go back and forth to Florida; I suspect I’m not the only woman in the world who makes a regular trip somewhere or other…
love,
Janice
p.s. 3 years ago our heroine was heading to Paris to try to combat her insomnia…. (still one of my FAVORITE wardrobes, or maybe just favorite ideas for a trip!)

I love these colors so much, especially that gorgeous green! These are shades that I always gravitate towards that look good on me. Black or white feel like they are too stark on me and wash me out. Question, can you transition some of these colors into a fall or even winter wardrobe? Maybe by adding in some gray or navy/denim (also safe shades for me)? I struggle with how to not look overly “summery” with the colors I love when the weather cools, and how to not get stuck wearing shades that really don’t flatter me just because they seem more seasonally appropriate. Thanks for inspiring so many great ideas!

Maybe use darker shades of these colors? The travel outfit is much darker than the original rose color that you see in the painting. You could have olive and camel as neutrals, and a medium lavender and rose as your accents…
Hope that this helps!

Janice

I would be thrilled to have this wardrobe waiting at my mother’s. The colours would be cooling and restful on a hot day. I particularly like the green dress with the lilac cardigan – a really lovely colour combination.

I spent 12 years living in California while my job was in Connecticut. What a commute!!! So yes, I did leave clothing and toiletries in California while I spent my time in Connecticut. I made a list of things to pack so that I would have what I needed, no matter where I was. Now I’m retired and still have a house in California where I “live” although I never get to stay there. I am “on vacation” in Louisiana visiting my 94 year old Dad. He won’t let me “move i”n with him because he values his independence. I have been “on vacation” with him for 4 years now and still have a stash of clothes ands toiletries in California, for those few times I get to visit my home.
Love your work on TVF and have been reading for about 6 years now. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful ideas, once more !
And so pleased to discover your Parisian post (I think I hadn’t read it).
I’m always enthusiastic about reading your blog, Janice.
I discover so many stylism houses, objets… From all over the world (I often investigate, after, on the web sites, the creators).
Great !
