One of the most frequent colors that I’m asked to work with is the teal/turquoise family. This pairs it with navy, and a dash of pink. You can see that you don’t have quite as many outfit options when you include more colors, but still enough choices to satisfy almost anybody.

Love the high-low of a Tiffany scarf and a (perfect) bracelet from Penneys! Janice, your industry, effort, and creativity know no bounds. I wonder what's in those bakery goods of yours; I want some of what you're having.

Thank you! Maybe not as many outfits, but I would like this better. It looks more varied and more cheerful.

This is great – definitely my colors and I love the pop of pink with turquoise and navy.
There are far more than 24 outfits with this combination, especially if you wear the button-down top as an outer layer. It would be easy to come up with more than a month's worth of non-repeating outfits.

I would have never put teal and navy together, but it sure is beautiful. Yet another combo that resides in my closet! Thanks.

I love this – teal and navy are both favorite colors, but I don't have four of either. This gives me some ideas for ways to add. Add them to the pink and gray I am working on and throw in the black that currently fills my closet and I have more clothes than any one could wear in six months! I love it!
A thousand thanks!

Do you mix obviously expensive accessories like Tiffany's with something from Penney's in real life or do you use the examples only for illustration?
Janice says
Yep, I do it all the time. Some of my jewelry is frankly fake, but I mix it in with the more expensive things all the time. And I don't pay a lot for tee shirts, but I wear them under cashmere cardigans. Nobody knows what you paid for something unless they're rude enough to ask, and you're honest enough to tell them!

Hi Janice,
Another question…in another comment yesterday I said I'm not a scarf person. Really that's because I love necklaces. I have many, and they are my favorite jewelry.
So…is there any way to wear a scarf and a necklace together? Would that be weird and pointless?
Janice says
Mai Tai (see my Blog list to the right) wears scarves and necklaces frequently. If I had more neck, and fewer chins, I'd try it, but I don't really need more clutter in that area of my body!

Wow, I love this combo! Bookmarking this for the future. Yum.

Wow, I don't know how you do this day after day, figuring out these great combos of clothes and color. It must take you a lot of time to pull it together for lucky us. A little tidbit about one color, although I think it's widely known…when I was a young woman in the 1970s, the big thing was to get one's "colors" done. Somebody, apparently in the know and doing this as a profession (have no idea if they had true credentials!), would sit us down and drape fabric after fabric, color over color at our neck and heads, announcing we were a "fall," "winter," "spring," or "summer." Whatever our designation, for that age and skin tone and hair color, there'd be suggestions of all the right colors for our particular face. (This wasn't about the architecture of clothing, so to speak; it wasn't really fashion per se.) I had brown-black hair and Scottish/French ancestry which gave me green eyes and ivory skin (my dream was to be blonde, tan and blue-eyed, of course; we often want what we don't have, at least at that age). I was told I was a "winter." My colors were deep purple, red, royal blue, kelly green, navy, black, white, pale but clear lemon yellow (my only other pastel was dove gray); no-no colors for me were orange, green, pink and I was told I was to stay away from beige or tan. I happened to love soft pink, baby blue, buttercup, lilac, light sage green, peach…so I was crushed. As a result, I've probably worn all the wrong colors all of my adult "fashion" life, but at least I wore colors I liked. As a mid-age, mature woman, with changing hair and skin hues, I don't feel I can wear those former, years-ago colors of "winter," not that I ever liked them in the first place. Anyway, getting to my point about one special color, because your teal-colors here made me think of it, I was told back in this day of "color-suiting" that turquoise, which isn't exactly teal or aqua of course, is a universal color for all women, any age, any skin tone…and I do, for the most part, feel that's true. I think it pairs with a lot of other colors really well, and it traverses generations of women in a family. Just my novice, amateur observation! For me, it goes great with navy or black; my mom looks great in it with soft pinks and lavenders; my little cousin looks adorable in bright turquoise and yellow rompers.
