How well would it age? Would it have been "in style" enough 10 years ago? 20? Would the silhouette change, but not the piece/color?
When you started this a couple days ago I was intrigued, but was having troble thinking how I could apply it to my work situation which business casual (no jeans M-Th) and because of my line of work, sometimes I need something more even more business-like. It dawned on me tonight that I take the same basic colors and turn the kahakis into camel trousers and so one. I really enjoy seeing your creativity.
This series helps me so much! I've loved and studied lots of your posts but this common wardrobe speaks to my life as a stay at home mom and writer who likes to look hip and chic but with non-office clothes that I can transition from walking the dog to writing in a coffee shop. I'm thrilled with the use of oxford shoes here too as I'm looking for an alternative to loafers. I love the boot options too! For ideas, I'm always in love with purple, and am interested in the "new" burgundy too. Between this series and your fabulous ones on packing, I'll be set for an upcoming trip to London, and for my regular Northwest life too! Being an Autumn who owns several pieces of amber, this post is very inspirational, especially for the smart casual retirement wardrobe I am trying to build. Trouble is, at 63, with my mid brown eyes and golden blond hair (not auburn) black is too harsh (not to mention aging :(). In fact any very dark colour, even dark brown or navy,looks terrible on me. Are there any alternative suggestions? Like Ronda, I'd love to see more with amber.
I love amber but I just can't visualize those warm colours with the core pieces. I think I'd have to see them on a person to "get it" I'm just not sure that the core clothes would look tired and faded with amber.
I've been having trouble seeing this combo as well, but I put up all three wardrobes side by side and found that the amber collection was brighter and more appealing to me. That is particularly weird because amber/brown/tan are totally not colors that I can wear or have ever been drawn to!
I have been on the fence about some cognac/amber boots but I think you just convinced me. I LOVE the colors of amber/cognac/british tan right now. And although I am a cool summer, I find I can wear these colors as accessories without a problem. I have some great amber studs from our trip to the Dominican Republic and now I have a classic Coach Willis in the british tan color….oh! I just need those boots.

The rich, warm colors look so beautiful! They really bring the neutrals to life. I LOVE this idea of picking one color for accessories. I could have a fall/winter color and a spring/summer color. That wouldn't be too excessive, right?
