Be still my heart. Those are beyond gorgeous accessories…but aren't they crying out for tweeds and textured sweaters, not jeans and tee shirts?
Janice says
Absolutely, and I'm sure she has those too. But at advertising conferences, she stays both in uniform, and completely unique!

Be still my beating heart….
And if my shopping fast does not endure, I can always blame you because it is much easier to stay clear of the stores than your blog. Thank you and have wonderful weekend.

Beautiful and very dramatic!

This is gorgeous. Please do more with amber.

Would never have thought to put these coppery colors with black and white. Let;s see … closet full of black and white … what could a girl do??? a little bit of accessory shopping perhaps? voila!

I absolutely LOVE red hair…my husband had red hair until he was in his late 20's and our adorable grand daughter has it now. Good Scottish genes!
I can only imagine how polished this woman looks in these ambers and coppers.
Brilliant Janice.

Im not a fan of amber because of my coloring, but would certainly find a way to work those terrific scarves in, and perhaps the ring and certainly the bracelet…so perhaps I am more a fan than I thought. Lovely choices. Have a great weekend.

I love to see tortoise shell come back consistently. I have vintage costume jewelry of my grandmother's dating to the 1940s & 50s of same and they are beautiful.

Absolutely gorgeous! Love the accessories and the clothing picks are the kinds of clothes I wear on a daily basis. I can stepping up the game with these accessories.
Have a wonderful weekend.

I love this series with these core wardrobe pieces. Amber would not go with my coloring either, but I so enjoy comparing the marcasite, silver and amber collections…and anything else you come up with! It helps me work out possibilities for myself and my lifestyle. Again, thank you for all the work you put in!
LeBonVoyage says
Oh, Janice!!!! Absolutely stunning!!!!! I love that set of accessories!!! And, sigh, the scarves! You have been such, such an inspiration. I stopped by the consignment shop to drop off some things and went straight to the Goodwill with what was left. Some lovely, lovely things at both places … but, following your lead, I know I don't have to buy it just because it is beautiful. Walked away with pocketbook completely in tact. Susan (Mpls)

Janice,
You are wise and talented. Thank you for sharing with us! (Now, in case you need some inspiration, I'm waiting for:
She was tall and unafraid to accent her bold personality with a bold splash of color. Kids and dogs love her.)

Love this series — please keep it up! Your most inspiring posts are the ones that are heavy on fashion "theory" — and this "common wardrobe" is a great theory.
How well would it age? Would it have been "in style" enough 10 years ago? 20? Would the silhouette change, but not the piece/color?

Janice,
When you started this a couple days ago I was intrigued, but was having troble thinking how I could apply it to my work situation which business casual (no jeans M-Th) and because of my line of work, sometimes I need something more even more business-like. It dawned on me tonight that I take the same basic colors and turn the kahakis into camel trousers and so one. I really enjoy seeing your creativity.

This series helps me so much! I've loved and studied lots of your posts but this common wardrobe speaks to my life as a stay at home mom and writer who likes to look hip and chic but with non-office clothes that I can transition from walking the dog to writing in a coffee shop. I'm thrilled with the use of oxford shoes here too as I'm looking for an alternative to loafers. I love the boot options too! For ideas, I'm always in love with purple, and am interested in the "new" burgundy too. Between this series and your fabulous ones on packing, I'll be set for an upcoming trip to London, and for my regular Northwest life too! Big thanks for your amazing talent and thoughtful posts:) -Janis

Being an Autumn who owns several pieces of amber, this post is very inspirational, especially for the smart casual retirement wardrobe I am trying to build. Trouble is, at 63, with my mid brown eyes and golden blond hair (not auburn) black is too harsh (not to mention aging :(). In fact any very dark colour, even dark brown or navy, looks terrible on me. Are there any alternative suggestions? Like Ronda, I'd love to see more with amber.

I love amber but I just can't visualize those warm colours with the core pieces. I think I'd have to see them on a person to "get it" I'm just not sure that the core clothes would look tired and faded with amber.
Pam says
I've been having trouble seeing this combo as well, but I put up all three wardrobes side by side and found that the amber collection was brighter and more appealing to me. That is particularly weird because amber/brown/tan are totally not colors that I can wear or have ever been drawn to!
Lisa says
Love this color with the outfit basics. The bag and scarf are beautiful….want them now….!

I have been on the fence about some cognac/amber boots but I think you just convinced me. I LOVE the colors of amber/cognac/british tan right now. And although I am a cool summer, I find I can wear these colors as accessories without a problem. I have some great amber studs from our trip to the Dominican Republic and now I have a classic Coach Willis in the british tan color….oh! I just need those boots.
I love how you described the redhead/Karats. Too cute. I am surprised Anne Shirley didn't think of it that way. ; )
Anne says
The rich, warm colors look so beautiful! They really bring the neutrals to life. I LOVE this idea of picking one color for accessories. I could have a fall/winter color and a spring/summer color. That wouldn't be too excessive, right?

I hope you don't mind, but I mentioned your blog and your common wardrobe in a blog post I did tonight, on my blog, http://www.beautyandserendipity.blogspot.com. I'm totally wowed by your blog and I'm recommending it to everyone!

These are still my favorite accessories ever. How about using them for a Wild Wednesday post some time?

Oooh, extravagant amber – what a cool idea! I'm on it!
