Never ever in my life did I dress romantically (probably wore a taylored baptismal gown), but it does bring home the fact that a good basic wardrobe is immensely versatile. I do like both scarves, though.

Such romantic accessories…I would never have thought to pair them with the tailored clothing picks. Beautiful.

I am not sure I can be described as a romantic but this wardrobe is screaming my name – I already have lots of pearls (I am a pearl collector) and the scooter with a pink helmet! :-))
Thanks Janice!

I am really enjoying this series and seeing how the same core items are trandformed again and again with the right collection of accessories. So helpful!
Dawn says
I have to agree with this. I am loving seeing the same core items in a new light with each set of accessories. It proves so well, that you can share your personality through your accessories.
Jeanne says
Me too. I'm enjoying the entire series and I LOVE this collection.

Very instructive. When I saw the accessories I thought, "No way that these will work with jeans and a gray t-shirt!" but you've really mane them work. What I like about these posts is how, with a few basic clothing items, you can create an individualistic style through thoughtful curation of accessories.

I love them! I agree with the others, it is amazing how one can change the look of basic clothing items with a change of accessories. I am learning so much from you on how to build a better wardrobe as I make future purchases

Again, this is fantastic curation, immensely practical and a delight to be able to observe… Talking about your book, there was that wonderful one of a curation of artefacts of a relationship… this is like the curation of being an everyday person with everyday clothes and making them special and unique! I can't get enough of this stuff… can't wait to meet your next 'person' in this series!

This series has convinced me that I don't actually need new clothes. I just need accessories. I don't own a belt, or a pretty scarf, or a bracelet, or a watch, or a statement necklace. No wonder I think my clothes are boring!
I wonder how old you need to be to pull of an Hermes scarf. I feel like it's a 40+ thing. (As a petite, baby-faced person, I'm finding my early 30's hard to shop for. Too old for this, too young for that. At the same time, I feel like it's time to start buying better quality, less-disposable things.)

I just want to let you know I am immensely enjoying the "common wardrobe" series. Today's made me gasp ( in a good way ). It is so stunning to see how a core, "common", pretty basic set of clothes can be transformed into a soaring wardrobe.
Thank you for what you do !!

I find all your series inspiring, but this series has really struck a chord with me, more than any other. I think it's because it fits my lifestyle so well. I mean, literally, I could add a black dress for special occasions, and I'd be set.
One thing that surprised me, as I actually started to visualize my own version of the Common Wardrobe, though, is the fact that I'm lacking some of these basic pieces. I thought to myself, "why don't I have any white or gray t-shirts, or a blue button-up shirt, or neutral-colored pants?" I think I forgot about the usefulness of "backdrop" colors. I think I need to work on developing an eye for accessories and not insisting that my clothes alone provide all the bright colors I want to wear.

As another blogger did after a previous post, I decided to create my own "common wardrobe" and posted it on my blog. It was a fun exercise. I am seriously going to use this method as a basis for my fall/winter wardrobe.
P.S. My correct blog address is linked to this comment. My comment above mistakenly links to my old blog, which is no longer accessible.

I agree — this is all so much fun, and I look forward to each new post. Reminds me of playing paper dolls with my sister! (Betsy McCall… now that was fun.)
