By chance, I came across your blog and your talent at wardrobe planning and ideas were just what I was looking for on the internet. I have been going through my wardrobe and realized I have way too much for my lifestyle. I am a kindred spirit, but just didn't know how to go about it. This is a great chance to buy something that you'll be able to wear weekly for years to come! If I had to start entirely from scratch, I'd go one of two ways, depending on how dressy your event will be. If it's "medium dressy", I'd invest in a nice pair of pants, and a top of some sort in the same color (things that can be worn for all events…) and then find a dressy cardigan – beaded or embroidered. If it's TRULY dressy, find a dress. Something really simple – no ruffles or beads or fripperys of any sort. Add a necklace and earrings, or a scarf, simple shoes, great posture, a big smile and an open heart. You will be the most beautiful woman there!
