My argyle merino turtleneck is from Pendleton; I've had it three or four years, and I will be quit sad when I manage to wear it out.
Merino! It's a whole different class from scratchy Shetland wool! I'm beginning to like it even better than cashmere!

I love the "what I know" approach to getting dressed, it just makes things so clear and simple. Must admit I'm fascinated when I see what you actually wear. I live in Toronto so I share your cold weather – are you wearing a long coat over your jeans to keep warm or are you one of those lucky people who don't seem to feel the cold on their legs? And how do you manage the hat hair situation? Hope you don't mind the questions.
I wear a huge parka in the bitter cold – just above the knee, but if it's banging cold, I wear tights under my jeans. (Fleece-lined tights – I'm going to write an entire post about them, I'm so in love with them.) And I wear earmuffs – otherwise my hair would be uncontrollably fuzzy and out of control.
I've never tried fleece lined tights – must think about that. I go the other route – a pair of pull-on pants in a lightweight wind break fabric over my regular pants/jeans. They can be pulled off and rolled up if I go inside where I don't need the warmth. Or if I have a flash!
I like your boots, what brand are they, I would love to find a similar pair.
The short boots are from Clark, and the tall boots are from Eddie Bauer. Your chances of finding them aren't great thought – they're each at least four or five years old.

For going to and fro in the very cold (sometimes we are down to -17C) I wear Snowboarding trousers from Helly Hansen over my regular trousers, because I can take them off when I get into the heated office. Snowboarding trousers because (at least the ones I have) they have full length open zips, so you can take the trousers on and off without taking your shoes/boots etc off (though often I have snow boots ona s well on those occasions!).
I want to know about the fleece-lined tights, for outdoor skating in the cold weather!
I've gotten really into scarves this winter, mostly due to you. But now I'm looking for a specific color combo and of course can't find it. What I want would be oblong because I can't get the hang of tying the squares, with grey, black and a shot of raspberry. Not much more than $50, I can't do Hermes!
So…wht is a good sources for scarves online?

(I'm thinking though about how a few more treadmills in my life would help me avoid having my own clothing choice rationales mainly consist of variations of "Well,I chose this after two or three tries because it still fits and seems to best hide a multitude of sins.")
I stumbled upon your blog about a month ago, and have been studying it ever since. I find your posts inspirational, I love the way you promote quality over quantity, and I think we would all be better off if we chose our things more carefully. If I were honest with myself, I would bet that I wear 33 or fewer items in any given month, so getting dressed with 33 would not be a tough thing to do. I tend to save things for a long time (read: don't weed out nearly enough), and have distinct warm and cold weather wardrobes, because I live in a climate of extremes. I am working on editing down to fewer items for each season, and trying to select any new items with an eye to trans-seasonal wearability. Thank you so much for the heart and soul you put into each post.
The boots are very much like Doc Martins. You may be able to find them in a local mall outlet….I have noticed them recently (in Canada).

The Tuesday outfit is one of my favorite 'go to' combos. When I really don't want to think about getting dressed for work, I throw on the black, grab whatever scarf catches my eye, put on the pearls and off I go. Looks like I'm totally psyched for the day when I really want to go back to bed.
Also have just now decided that I really, really MUST have a pair of the lace up boots.
Rockport has a couple of styles. Nordstrom also carries pair that comes in black, plus four different shades of brown (!!!!!!). *sigh*
