It’s that time of year, when many of us have to put in a beautiful appearance with family and friends. Packing light, and smart, is a good way to begin. And cranberry is such an appropriate color for autumn holidays…
And if your weekend is longer than most, or if you absolutely can’t bear the thought of traveling with only 4 pieces of clothing, consider adding these:

As usual, a really great combination. Unfortunately, I cannot wear gray next to my face. I am so pale (writh freckles) and very dark brown hair it rather makes me appear severely anemic or hepatic! Any other color ideas to pair with my burgundy/cranberry separates? Thanks so much.

Navy, brown, cognac, raspberry

I have similar coloring and like burgundy with a bright navy.

I really like the new look to your blog.
I need to shake things up on mine.

Remember: if you do have a gray top, you can always add a colorful sweater. I like the way that neutrals give a look a solid foundation. If you find that they're tough on your look, scarves can really brighten them up. Plus, you can get a lot of mileage out of neutrals.
That said, deep chocolate brown is a very nice neutral for your coloring, and it looks amazing with burgundy.

I agree with Fiddlestix! Navy and cranberry are incredibly lux, throw in some ivory as a counterpoint to the richness and you are fab!

My winter purchase were a cranberry sweater and a long sleeve silk t to wear as alone or an underlayer. This color is gorgeous also with camel, black, white and or course, denim.

Cranberry is a good color for me, so I tend to stock up in those years when it is available. Love the Munros–I have them sitting in my Nordies cart. They've been sitting for about a month. I'm hoping for a sale.

Love the color combination. Too bad most of the items are too warm for Tucson even in the dead of winter. Husband and I had lunch outside in the shade on Monday. Mostly T-shirts and shorts around us.

This blog is one of my favourites which I read regularly.
Today I would nevertheless like to comment on the aspect of practicality. I do not think that the shoes shown for the long walk would actually hold up for a long walk, one for comfort, and the other reason is that it gets quite muddy near the ground this time of year and it would really be a pity to ruin these wonderful shoes.

Very nice. And very realistic. Thanks.

I have been living in gray (my favorite neutral) this fall, pairing it with burgundy and teal-meets-peacock blue. I love your ideas. As usual, you've inspired me to look at what I already have and pair them in new ways. I'm a skirt girl–so I'd probably swap out the dressy trousers for a skirt in a similar fabric.
It's so easy to think about planning with your guidelines…and then 'shopping my closet". One thing I am seriously considering is completely reorganizing my closet–by color, not by type of item…so I'd hang gray pants with gray sweaters, rather than the usual method.

I just recently reorganized my closet by color and realized I had the beginnings of 4 different capsule wardrobes, two for summer/spring; 1 for fall; 1 for our deep/frigid winter. No wonder I never had anything to wear – nothing was complete.
