As much as I love to use a scarf as an accent to an outfit, once the weather starts to get cold, I find that I often turn to my black, black and white, or grey scarves. A little bit of texture, a subtle print, or a pattern can lend a lot of interest to a monochromatic outfit.Tomorrow, I’ll show you scarves from the other 8 neutral colors – I’m now including rust and teal as neutrals!

I don't wear my solid scarves nearly as much as the printed ones. But I will play along with this series. My mother gave me my Dad's Scottish cashmere scared upon his passing. Thanks for the idea.
Here in Toronto, I wear patterned scarves with lots of colour to counter the drab weather, there are so many cloudy days over these months. Bulky down coats and hoods, so necessary for warmth, make wearing the scarf over the coat rather difficult, so in winter I tend to wear scarves under my coat both for extra warmth and as a flash of colour at the throat.
Just curious – do you leave on your warm scarf after you remove your coat? I always want to but am not sure if it looks funny indoors.

Wow! Wow! So many lovely scarves here. You find such beautiful clothes! I've been looking forever for a textured solid taupe scarf. I just ordered the open weave infinity scarf. So perfect! The Zegna navy paisley is gorgeous. A good reminder to look in the men's department for scarves. Most of my scarves are bright, but I do wear several grey ones including my Jardins des Metamorphoses that matches yours, Janice.
I'm a scarf wearer…a serious scarf wearer. In neutrals, in prints, summer and winter, I love them all. This is wonderful array!
Scarves have been one of my favorite accessories for many years, and I appreciate the way they allow me to change the look of an outfit. Thank you for your wonderful blog, Janice. It has been part of my daily routine for a few months now. Going back into the archives to read those that I missed over the years has been quite an education. You do a great job!

Janice: do you have any suggestions as to how to navigate the differences between petrol and dark gray? I find I'm drawn to the petrol now, but have so much charcoal in my closet already… to me they don't seem to be interchangeable, but I could be mistaken. Thank you! ~Andrea
