I’ve never been closely aligned to my designation as a Winter; I pretty much already knew that I was going to wear a lot of black and white, so learning that I was a Winter didn’t change anything for me. However, I know many people who are quite fond of using their “seasonal” designation as a guideline for shopping. So since I knew I was going to show you lots more jewelry today, I thought I’d take advantage of the seasonal designations as a different way to choose some pretty things for you to see…

Years ago I was "diagnosed" a Spring and I went out and bought my spring training dusty pastels. A month later I wore a "wrong" kelly green blouse to work which everyone said was "my" color. Makes me sort of crazy…so I keep that season idea in mind but much more enjoy my three basic neutrals and two accent colors and also try to buy what really gives me joy even if it is a "wrong" color.

I am a winter, and I do look best in strong contrasts and jewel tones. I prefer navy to black, though, and love to wear autumnal colors in the fall.

I am a winter as well. Love black, and red, and the jewelry you chose for us is wonderful. However, because I am allergic, I can't wear earrings, which limits quite my accessories range, frankly. I have even tried those earrings for allergic, and no way.

I've always been a Winter. In fact, sewing educator Cynthia Guffey once plucked me from the audience to illustrate the importance of wearing the right colors. I was wearing a red jacket. She picked another woman who looked great in beige and pointed out that we would each look terrible in each other's clothes. That said, I like gold jewelry and I wear it much more than silver.
KBG says
When I first heard about color theory back in the 80s I thought it was bunk, and wore whatever I wanted. But as I got older, I started noticing that, when I was wearing colors more suited to my season (winter), I looked younger, less tired, and slimmer in photographs. So now I eschew the pastels, the yellows, the beautiful browns of "Autumn", stick to the colors that suit me and a lot of black, and feel confidant that I look my best.

I was a winter – back before I let my hair go to silver (not grey) and lived long enough to be over 70. Now I am better in lower contrast pieces in grey. But like to add teal/turquoise or burgundy/rose pieces.

I'm a True Summer and I do stick very closely to my season when shopping for clothing and accessories. Love the jewelry you chose for Summer! The moonstone necklace is very pretty.

I too am a winter, and although I instinctively knew some colors were better for me than others, it was helpful to see the colors on the winter palette and to know that I could pretty much wear any color – it just had to be the right shade/tint/tone. I love black and grey, but I love color too!
That Novica site is beautiful, by the way.

When I had my "colors done" way back in the early '80s, the color consultant told me I was a Lazy, Hazy Days of Summer–muted summer colors with (very oddly she thought) black. That changed the way I shopped, permanently. I think my color designation is fine and I used it more as a general guideline rather than hard and fast rule.

Back in the day I was classified as an autumn with winter influence. I can wear the dark winter colors but look dreadful in icy pastels. But my first love has always been for autumn color accessories to warm up the cooler colors near my face.

I am an autumn. I recently purged my closet of all non-autumnal colors and shades and using some of your advice have created a smaller wardrobe with colors I love!
Virginia says
I've never had my colors done, but suspect I'm some sort of autumn. But, since I'm fortunate enough to live in an area that has four distinct seasons (each very beautiful), I enjoy dressing to match the current season. Summer is khaki, blue and green to match the sea shore. Autumn is chestnut brown and purple to reflect the foliage, winter is taupe and pale blue for winter, and spring is khaki, coral, and green for the spring burst of color. With all of that, my closet used to be a mess. Thanks to TVF, my goal is four project-33-ish capsules.

It's December, so, though I love all clothing and jewelry autumnal, I've put all the brown turtlenecks and amber jewelry away and taken out my reds and grays. If the red is a tomato red, it works fine with autumn coloring. (I have to admit that I'm partial to your autumn jewelry selections though!)

I just want to make a point about the seasonal color system: if you love something, you should wear it, and seasons be damned! A couple of weeks ago I heard someone say "Oh, I'm using all these cool colors in [craft project] because I love them so much, but I never get to wear them because I'm an autumn." PISH! I wish I'd spoken up and encouraged her to wear the colors she loves.

I have been identified as a winter and as an autumn at different times of my life. As I have grown grey, the grey/navy palette looks best on me; Silver is my new jewellery tone and I really enjoy wearing silver with blue stones as I have blue eyes.

I have been told I'm a Winter on two different occasions, with about 25 years between them! However I am now taking part in an on-line course where the vote seems to be that warmer colours suit me and that I'm deep, soft and warm – which equates to Autumn. I tend to think that I'm a borderline case! lol I love Novica: both the idea behind it plus the lovely articles that they sell. Thank you for introducing me to them Janice!

Also a winter here and I stick to it for clothing, but not for accessories necessarily. Accessories are my chance to enjoy colors that don't look good in large doses next to my face.
Missionista says
I'm an Autumn. When I was much younger I hated it–I wanted really saturated brights to be "my" colors. But now I am happy wearing lots of browns, and incorporating my beloved saturated brights in smaller doses not so close to my face.

Well the quiz I just took told me I was a spring, but I'm not sure if I buy it. Based on what I would actually wear from above, I would say my taste leans toward summer or winter. But then again I never was one to follow style rules.

I have known for years that I am a Winter, but i have always loved colorful clothing & accessories without paying strict attention to their season. After realizing that I look and feel best in Winter colors, i have come full circle. Thanks to you and your blog for guiding me in paring down my wardrobe and choosing core basics and accent colors. It has made dressing fun and easier. I am a much more thoughtful shopper.

I'm a Bright Winter, and yes … I love knowing that, although it confirmed what I knew all along, black and white are my fashion BFFs. Now that my hair is significantly gray I'm not getting the high contrast I want when wearing white so unheathered gray is being pressed into service.
Do I follow fashion rules? Nope. I dress for my best self.

Winter here though I must be a borderline case as my classmates argued that cream suited me much better than bright white. I love winter colors so they are the largest part of my wardrobe. Not all of the colors work–burgundy, bright blue, bright Aqua, etc. Greens and reds are very tricky. I have to stay far, far away from most spring and fall colors.
I love what Virginia is doing by varying her colors with the seasons. Mine change from spring/summer to fall/ winter. It was amazing how different my closet looked when I switched from Summer to Fall this year. It felt like a whole new wardrobe. Thanks Janice! My two seasonal wardrobes are really starting to click. Much better than the hodgepodge I lived with before I started reading your blog.

You may be a winter, Janice, however your discerning eye captures every season beautifully. Back in the day, I was categorized as an Autumn and could wear all colors appropriate for the season..today, it's soft autumn, medium toned colors only. As we age we stay true to our coloring pattern only use different hues.
Thank you for all your hard work, Janice, and I too love Novice, the products, and the personal freedom the product line promotes.

I am a Summer. As a teen, I would see other girls in colors that were so right for them, but as a "dishwater brown" (what a disparaging term!), I couldn't ever find colors that looked good on me. Then several years later, I came across the book "Color Me Beautiful" and learned that I was a Summer and also learned what colors looked good on me. I have only purchased Summer colors ever since. I have received tons of compliments about how the colors I wear are so flattering on me. Needless to say, I am faithful to my Summer Colors.
P.S. I am not really interested in the drawing, but did want to comment about my experience with the Seasonal Color System.

I am a Soft Autumn. I think it's very accurate as far as colors go, though "my" colors can be very hard to find in business clothing, unless I wear beige all the time. Where I part company with color theory is the personality aspect of it that some experts like to go on and on about. You know: The Autumn woman is very natural and direct, the Soft Autumn woman embodies the gentle fading-summer light of early September by her loving and gracious presence, blah, blah, blah. That is hooey, IMHO, though the fact that I look like a corpse in black, white and fuchsia is not.

Years ago I was determined to be an autumn. Now with white silvery hair, while I do still love autumn colors I find I need to wear them softened a bit. I seem to dance gently between those broken autumn colors and the spring colors now although I cannot do the palest pastels. I still need some color and it seems the rich berry colors work very well. After all of that, I have no idea which season I am now so I do a lot of testing and ultimately go with what makes me feel good. Thank Janice.

I am so happy I found the Novica site – thanks to you!!! I prefer to wear handcrafted jewelry and sourcing this locally can be a challenge. I am a Summer, and more recently have discovered that I'm in the middle of the three phases of Summer, at that. This revelation finally explained why I looked not so great in the palest or dustiest versions of the summer range, but really shine in the brighter tones from that season. Thanks for all you do, Janice!!

I am a Winter, and I have found that to be accurate over the years. When I was a teen, I had a terrible case of the flu/strep and went to the doctor wearing a magenta blouse. He said I looked too good to be sick (although he believed me when he started the exam)! Most shades of yellow on my very best day, however, makes everyone want to go ahead and nudge me into a grave. :)

I'm a winter but sort of a mid-range one, I guess. I've never looked good in the icy colors, or the brights, or in high contrast, and temperamentally I'm drawn to the autumn colors though I can't actually wear anything gold or warm. My core colors are navy and chocolate accented with blue-greens — all, of them, from soft jade to turquoise, to teal, to dark forest green. I wear mostly silver jewelry, but I like silver and gold the best — it's just really hard to find pieces that I love and can afford.

In the 80s I was designated a Spring by two analysts. But over the years my skin tones have darkened. I am to the point now of using
navy and grey basics and teal accents. A funny thing happened after my first cataract surgery. I now see colors again very vividly and some of my berries and pinks as well as most of my lipsticks really look gastly on me. I have some work to do.

" . . . after my first cataract surgery. I now see colors again very vividly . . . . (On the other hand, yellow-tinted implants are said to mimic the vision we had at age 55.) I for one would prefer that all of my body parts be restored to function (and look) as they did when I was 19. (And please wish me luck with my upcoming cataract surgery!)

Years ago I was analyzed as a winter. As I have aged and my hair has grayed, I find the strong colors to be overwhelming, and have decided that I am more of a summer. I have always preferred silver jewelry, which I have collected since my high school days. I love to browse the offerings at Novica, and would be delighted to win a gift card there.

I think I was an Autumn when I was younger – the earth tones looked very good on me – and I can still wear some now. However, with my silver hair I like the way I look good in the black and reds and rich purples of Winter. Since I've retired, I find myself wearing a lot more grey. And silver jewelry looks so much more striking on me than gold. However, I don't restrict myself to any one color scheme, except pastels – with exception of pink, I look too washed out in them.

I'm a "summer," which means that I should be wearing silver jewelry. But I wear gold instead. When I discovered my season 30 some years ago, I was already wearing a gold wedding band, and I had a few other pieces of gold jewelry that I loved. I know that many people successfully combine gold and silver jewelry (Janice, thinking of you!), but I like to keep things simple and wear only gold. (On the other hand, when it comes to colors for my clothes, I tend to stick with my season.)

I think I'm a Soft Summer and/or Autumn. I seem to be able to wear both silver and gold, love a good medium gray and chocolate brown, have blue eyes and brown hair, look deathly in black, and look fantastic in teals and berries and blues. I can wear all colors of white very well, though I think *I* like it a touch on the cream side. In other words, my being born in November in the Southern U.S. fits my Summer/Autumn theory quite well, when my birthday is usually in the first week or two you have to wear long sleeves.

I'm currently attempting a wardrobe overhaul (and purge) using the "from scratch" and common core wardrobes, and trying to follow what I think is my season – a "soft summer", with very fair pink skin, blue-gray eyes, and medium brown hair.
