Many of us are preparing for holiday trips of varying lengths, so today I felt like putting together something that just oozed luxury and subtlety. These rich, beautiful colors, fabrics and textures make a quietly elegant statement, without gaudy logos or overdone ornamentation.
love,
Janice

"Oozing" luxury is exactly the right description. Stunning, classic ensembles here, Janice. (I'd love all of this under my Christmas tree!).

This is indeed stunning, and you have given me once again a great idea. I will feel well dressed. :)

Deep forest green substituted for the burgundy would be gorgeous here…

Thank you

I love this! I just would wear the boots on the trip- less bulk to pack ;)

These are fabulous. I love burgundy, but often wear it as the main colour; I need to rethink a bit. Not sure about camel for me but I'm really attracted to the pictures of all of these pieces. I'm a summer with silvery grey hair. There will be the correct shade somewhere for me! If I wore burgundy as the staple, what would be best accent for footwear – brown? black? for blouses etc? I've just found your posts and am enjoying. Thanks.

Imagine replacing every camel piece here with a pale silvery-grey. It would still be stunning, and might suit your coloring better.

Thank you.

I love the richness of this combination. It makes me want to hunt for vintage Etienne Aigner accessories in the classic burgundy.

Beautiful as always. I really love when you do posts with warm colors since I am an autum. Thank you very much for your wonderful blog. May you have a very merry Christmas!

Hi Janice, I recently found your blog and I absolutely LOVE ALL YOU DO!!!! Thank you so much! I firstly went through all the 4x4s and the from Scratch and the 333 posts…. so many good ideas about how to BUILD a wardrobe. I'm 45 so I should a gotten all this figured out by now but no…. I know I do too many ad hoc buys and that I hate buying basics…. but when I do buy that really good pair of black pants, that's all that I use…. but I'm "surprised" every time…
I love the idea of minimalism, not too severe, but having a good base and then adding some fun – that would be me! Thank you for all your work and please keep up the good work!
PS I am Swedish but I live in France since 20 years so my style is a mix : pragmatic from Sweden, chic from France!

Voilà, restrained elegance defined.

These are not my colors at all, and yet as an ensemble it is STUNNING. Beautiful work.

I don't normally think about putting burgundy and camel together, but you proved what a gorgeous combination it is! Thank you!

Knock my socks off again. Love the camel skirt, reserved, elegant with a slight edge. Beautiful. As with Eva above, I often hate to shop for wardrobe " basics" but with this skirt it would be a pleasure. Need to keep this in mind and not settle for cheap but save for pieces like this.

Beautiful! So serene and luxurious and chic. The perfect snuggle-up wardrobe. I can almost smell an open fire in a beautiful lodge with warm candle light. This is stunning. I am a warm spring so burgundy is tricky with me. What would you recommend as another accent option? A dark green? Or chocolate brown?
Necessary Indulgence Jewelry says
I'm a spring, as well. How about deep rust, deep golden brown, or garnet red? I would also include touches of ivory or off-white, such as pearl earrings, or an ivory wool scarf or shawl instead of the long print scarf.

Burgundy is one of my favorite colors. I love camel also, but it is difficult for many to wear. Also–unlike, say, black–camel only looks good if the fabric is of very high quality. And it gets dirty-looking so quickly. A high maintenance color.

Ooh, luscious burgundy pieces there. I love the tops, the (garnet?) earrings and the touches of gold. Lovely stuff!

Janice, You are a Christmas gift year round…truly a giving person who has helped and guided me in so many ways. This particular ensemble is a real jewel…I love the six packs because they are so practical and speak to simplicity, and thoughtful coordination. So practical for so many trips, visits, etc. that come up.
I love your work and appreciate it to no end. But mostly I wanted to say thank you.

Fabulous as always — I would never have thought to pair these colors and they are stunning. Did you see that the Pantone color of 2015 is marsala — very much like the burgundy you're showing here? I'm wondering if you would do a post on that color and how we can make one or two items in that color work with our 333 or 4X4s or French 5 piece wardrobes. Happy holidays, dear Janice, you are an inspiration year after year and I appreciate all you do (my wardrobe has changed so much for the better thanks to you!).

Stunning! I am another fan of that gorgeous skirt.
Unlike other posters, I love basics and I have a hard time buying more sophisticated statement pieces. My wardrobe is filled with basics and simple lines.

Delightful to see this even if it’s a decade old! I’m a deep autumn, and camel is about the lightest color that doesn’t make me look jaundiced or weirdly washed out when I wear it (warm mediumish taupe works too). I wish you featured capsules with darker “light” neutrals more often!
My everyday wardrobe contains a lot of camel and brownish burgundy (more accurately “maroon”) items, and I’ve traveled with just a few pieces of clothing in these two colors plus black in just a Ryanair-sized personal item. I look effortlessly put together enough with that combo that I’m usually assumed to be a native in Italy and France (until I open my mouth, oops).
