This spring is a festival of Eileen Fisher! There’s an Eileen Fisher Company Store in Schaumburg, in the west Chicago suburbs, which is a wonderful place to shop if you have both a plan and some discipline! Couple that with being able to get Eileen Fisher clothes at every department store in Chicago, and the canny shopper can often scare up some good deals!
So, for this upcoming warm weather period, I’ve got a new red twinset-ish sort of arrangement, as well as a pewter cardigan, a GORGEOUS silver silk jacket, and my engineering-striped dress. (the black dress I bought in New York qualifies as a neutral, if anything ever did…)
I’m just going to work with five simple black garments…
The thing that will really make all of the difference here is the mountain of great accessories I have:
The silvery silk jacket is going to make anything I own look dressier…
While the red is cheery and bright. My new bracelet from New York, with the bit of red detail, is excellent here. And I dug out a pair of garnet and pearl earrings that are going to be worn more than they have been in decades!
This frankly isn’t a dress that lends itself to layering – the sleeves are too deep to wear much over the dress. (maybe my white linen cardigan…) but I can find lots of different sorts of jewelry to wear, and that gives a bit of variety.
The new item that might get the most use is the cool pewter cardigan – it’s different, and dressy, without being over the top… plus it’s loose and relaxed…
And of course, the red tank top will be nice on hot days! If I had a black cardigan in this mix, I’d have even more options!
Had anybody else started planning for warm weather, or are you among the lucky ones already wearing your summer clothes?
love,
Janice

On many days, we can already wear summer clothes in Dallas. I have a question about your full length or ankle length EF pants for spring summer. What is the fabric? EF makes ponte knit, silk knit, and several other fabrics in their plain black pants The ponte knit are too hot for our spring/summer season here, so I am curious about these that your picture.

My black pants for summer will be either Eddie Bauer Bremerton pants (side zip, cotton and lycra blend fabric) which are the ones pictured, or Eileen Fisher silk. In the brutally hot weather, I won't wear pants at all, unless maybe the capris…

Oh, I forgot to mention, I have a dress in the same railroad fabric from last year, but it is sleeveless and buttons down the front I can wear it as a vest.

That's a neat idea! I'm really looking forward to a nice hot day… And I love that this striped dress has pockets… how smart is that?

Not wearing summer clothes at all yet in NH! But I'm almost ready to go. I am focusing on pale grey, denim, and white as basics. I bought a white seersucker shaped shirt, a pearl grey lightweight cardigan, and slate-colored hiking/travel pants to fill in some gaps.I already own lots of really great accessories in a variety of colors, so I'll just choose an accent or two to keep summer simple Your own wardrobe is just lovely! If anyone has a suggestion for white under-layers that aren't crew neck tees or sleeveless tanks, please let me know?

That sounds like a pretty palette!

Have you thought of layering a long sleeve T under the light grey dress? I do that a lot with dresses.

I am totally in love with your choices. I keep meaning to do that 5 pieces every season thing…must remember.

Oh Eileen Fisher stores are pure heaven….if I had deeper pockets I probably would buy her entire line!
You are going to be ready for Spring and Summer with these choices.

Love the EF silk "slouchy pants" for traveling. Have 2 in navy, 2 in black. Add silk blouses, an EF silk black dress, a jacket, 1 pair jeans and you have a light weight carry-on travel wardrobe. EF also has 3/4 sleeve bateau neck & u-neck tees in white and black that make a great mix/match basic. Love your styling ideas!

I bought 3 Eileen Fisher pieces two years ago and I wear them frequently. Although they were initially expensive in Canada, the are worth the cost.

We'll be traveling again in late May/early June so I've been keeping an eye out for pieces that will zhush up my simple travel basics (almost all Eileen Fisher!). That metallic coat is lovely!

Just curious- the red cardigan pictured here looks a very different shade of red on the linked site. I fall very much into the "like to try before I buy" category so I have only used mail order for one scarf that you featured.. How accurate do you usually find the shades of colours as shown on websites, compared to the real thing?

These are just my shades: black, silver/grey and red. Love these looks, Janice!

I always admire the earrings you pair with outfits, very simple, classic and just the right size. I have such a hard time sourcing earrings, in particular the "knot" ones that I love; earring today are just too big and dangling for my taste. I would love to see a separate post just about jewelry. I've been reading your blog for about three years and it's a pleasure to see grown up clothes that are so wearable.

Yes I picked up a great maxi dress a tan and black stripped and have plans to make another maxi – they are so comfortable for the summer and can take me just about anywhere dressed up or down.
