As you well know, I’m not the blogger who gets buried in gifts from designers, so when I do receive something, it’s a special day chez nous! And not many days get more special than this for me – can you imagine a scarf better suited to the woman who lives in black, and who’s favorite accent color is red???
This scarf, from Ananda Design; is cotton, which is unusual for me, and it has tassels on the corners, which is REALLY not something I have in my closet. But I’ve had it wrapped around me and played with it a lot, and it’s pretty wonderful. The cotton is of course a great fabric for a scarf that you use in warm weather to ward off over-enthusiastic air conditioning, and the tassels give just a little bit of heft to the corners, so that the scarf falls in all sorts of beautiful ways, with tassels in unexpected places. I’m going to love this scarf for a long time, I can already tell!
So get thee to their site and check out what they have to offer. I have certainly learned a lot about moving out of my usual “scarf zone” since this beauty showed up in my home…
I’m really intrigued by the idea of “wardrobe heavy-lifters” – those items that you reach for constantly. For me, you can clearly see that it’s my Eileen Fisher black separates, and a handful of pieces of jewelry that I wear frequently.
What are yours?love,
Janice

My go-to pieces are a handful of Eileen Fisher pieces in that black crepe fabric that mixes, does not wrinkle, hand washes and plays well with others. My cigarette pants, regular trousers, skirt and cardigan go with my in ever suitcase I pack. Best of all, I look fairly well put together after long travels. Love the scarf.

Love the scarf…what an amazing wardrobe addition!

The heavy lifters in my wardrobe and very much the same as yours–my Eileen Fisher black separates including a black jersey knit dress (or two). And, I agree with you about cotton scarves–sometimes they are a lot easy to wear than silk.

My go to is, black jeans! They can be worn for any except for the most dressy occasion.

Remember the Common Wardrobe? When you ran that series, I realized I had all of those pieces in my closet. Flash forward some years of thoughtful curating, and my go to items are neutral pants (khaki or taupe depending on the season), jeans, and white shirts.

Oh, this is a lovely scarf. I looked at the site: it's big! It could be a sarong in the summertime too. I love the tassels too, it is so well made. It seems hard to find a true red in most stores, I love having new resources.

It's like you reached into my closet to put together this wardrobe capsule. Basic black separates with red tops and cardigan, black shoes. I LOVE that scarf!

My closet used to be a confused riot of prints and separates in search of a plan. Thanks to the Vivienne Files, I now mostly live in my favorite slimming and comfortable gray slacks (there are four identical pairs in my closet) and a gray cardigan (cashmere for winter, cotton or linen in summer)–dressed up with neutral blouses and a long string of pearls or a silk scarf and down with a casual shirt. Gray boots in winter and comfortable sandals in summer. I'd happily wear this uniform every day.

Which brand gray slacks, if you don't mind me asking?

Hi, Mary. Chico's makes the So-Slimming Peyton Pant in extended sizes and short length (which I need) and I stocked up on gray last fall and winter. I don't think the pants are available in gray at the moment–but, though I'm not normally much of a Chico's fan at all, I very highly recommend those pants for comfort and fit. And they come out of the drier utterly wrinkle-free.

Lovely scarf! I still can't believe Eileen Fisher isn't showering you with gifts daily. Along with Uniqlo, LL Bean, and others.

It is an amazing scarf. I love black & red too! According to Stylebook, my heavy lifters seem to be my handbags. White, fushia and aqua lead the list this year. White jeans are frequently worn…. probably because of the aforementioned bright handbags! As always, I love your accessory selections!

How I wish Eileen Fisher made everything in indigo! I'm really happy in head-to-toe indigo (with cognac or red shoes!), but it's a lot harder to find than black.

Amen!

Just came across the following and thought it would offer "Start with Art" possiblities with a different art form as the basis: photography.

I am with Suzy…… more indigo please in Eileen fisher, that would make me very happy. Now, as a sewist, I know I can dye my own and make it!!! Better get on with it.

Are you sure your Ananda link is correct? As it takes me to Bottica. Ananda itself has another link?
Elbe says
Same problem. Bottica isn't even Bottica any more and they don't carry this designer.
Danielle says
Definitely something wrong with the scarf link. I get a notice that Boticca is merging.

Love the scarf! The link does not work for me either. :(
I have similar black pieces but alas not Eileen Fisher. Another great post!
