A very special request! This is such an interesting color combination – distinctive, but calm and very grounded in nature. The woman who wears this is going to be very special…
Although the obvious neutrals here are olive green and navy, I gave each color equal weight in the color scheme to reflect the balance that I see in the painting. Your view may differ!
She Just has An Eye…
Normally, you have to fly to the auction the day before, and back the day after. But she’s very petite, and she figured out years ago that if she offered to fly Coach Class rather than Business, they would let her leave a few days early. She says it’s so she can get over jet lag… Many of her co-workers suspect that she just liked spending a couple of extra days in another country. As if that was some sort of fault?
Square scarf – Hermes Petit Duc; yellow cardigan – Boden; labradorite earrings – Argento Vivo; bracelet – Alexis Bittar; clutch bag – Nancy Gonzalez; ribbed sweater – The Row; labradorite pendant – Avindy; navy pearl earrings – Jordan Alexander; green glass earrings – Cynthia Serrano; dress – J. Crew; yellow wrap – White & Warren; moss cardigan – J. Crew; lace blouse – Giambattista Valli; pumps – Manolo Blahnik; jeans – Otis
When she returns from these long weekends, everyone asks her what she did on those extra days. It just seems like such a career-limiting gesture to take a couple of days off and go sightseeing!
Of course, if your do all of your sightseeing in art museums, and your job is buying art, then maybe it’s not so career-limiting after all. But she’s not one to blurt out every little detail of her trip…
Don’t you just hate it when everyone assumes that you were born with some skill that’s really the result of very hard work?
love,
Janice

Good morning. I really want all your women to meet each other in some exotic location and have an adventure in their fabulous outfits.
I am curious. Do you visualize the woman wearing these outfits? Because this is a very unusual and sophisticated colour combination, in my mind, it is only flattering to a particular set of eyes, skin and hair colour.

I do. I start, always, with the colors from the art, and try to find the travel outfit, and anchor pieces for the wardrobe, in those colors. But about that time, the woman begins to emerge in my mind, and she and I finish off the capsule together. It's a very strange process, but one that I enjoy, every day!

What a distinctive compilation. Janice thank you for the way that you encourage each one of us to identify and use colour combinations that we love and to create wardrobes that reflect our won distinct personalities

Lovely colours and clothes. I think I would stay in transit for a long time. I would wear the ankle boots forever. Knit blue cape is rather cute too. I'm a bit of layering person and I wouldn't want to get too hot so I might wear a light under layer, such as T-shirt, as well. Stems from a childhood experience with a red angora jumper. Carol S

I firmly believe in the power of the perfect travel outfit. A lot of people forget that (1) you might have to wear that outfit for a REALLY long time, in the event of flight delays, and (2) it's what you're wearing when you arrive – when you get to your hotel, when you probably head out for your first meal etc. Traveling in shabby clothes, workout wear, pajamas etc. just isn't necessary; you can be comfortable and look amazing if you just think about it and plan a little bit…
And yes, layering is ALWAYS smart…
big hug

The olive green always reminds me of this image which was originally an "outfit to room" article in Domino… https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/23/16/7d/23167d36f6a9b742b5d4170b348c2863.jpg

Fabulous. For me, I'd go more khaki than yellow, using it more as a neutral base. And I love navy and khaki. Black is too harsh for me. With my green eyes, I do like a grassy/olive green rather than emerald. I fell in love with this combo at first glance. And I believe that's a good sign that it would work for me.
Janice, you have the best blog around – entertaining, inspiring, motivating. I'm headed to Chicago for Labor Day weekend and Loved your recent post about packing to spend Labor Day there. Perfect timing!!
A million thanks for all you do – it's very appreciated.

Gorgeous–the wardrobe and the story. Your blog brings beauty to my world every day. And though I'm not much of a shopper, I fell into mad love with a Missoni scarf you showed a week or so ago and it's on my way to me from Italy, and even affordably in context. I always wanted a Missoni scarf and never even went so far as to look for one. Then you showed me something that took my breath away and simultaneously made my world smaller and larger. Thank you for the gift of this blog.

I love this, these are definitely colors I have and love, just need a few more olive pieces I've decided; as personally I really do love the color. I will be on the lookout for an olive necklace to tie some things together too. Really lovely!

Oh Janice, this is where inspiration goes out the window! I'm not inspired here, I just want all of it exactly as you show it: the clothes, the job, the personality, the life. Here is my secret – even from me – dream life out in the open. Bliss!
