I am going to work with this scarf twice – I have a warm color scheme in mind for this, too. But for now, I’m concentrating on shades of grey, and that glorious blue.
The Thinnest Veneer of Conformity
After the briefing, you’re going to have to spend ANOTHER day in the “H” city (Houston? Hartford? Hegwisch?) doing revisions to their invoice, based on their “feedback”.Since when did you get to have feedback about your bills?
So you’re packing your normal comfortable, only vaguely subversive, clothes…
The really interesting thing that you notice when you unpack in your hotel and change into your jammies: all of your things play very nicely together, and come together as a tidy capsule. Even though the mood of your first day is VERY different from your packed clothes, they could still be combined into very wearable outfits!
This is what you’ll wear for “in-hotel” work, and maybe change tops for the red-eye flight home:
Maybe the corporate side of you is more of a facet, and not a veneer?
love,
Janice

From Margie in Toronto – Love that shade of blue! In fact I find myself more and more drawn to those slight "different" shades of "Steel Blue" – "French Blue" etc. that seem to go so well with grey. I'm having to restrain myself from buying anymore accessory colours at the moment as a) I have no real need b) I do need to add another neutral core (going to be navy) and c) shouldn't be spending anymore money on clothes at the moment. I blame it on the novelty factor of having lost weight and actually looking good in clothes for a change! It's just that this scheme is so tempting. :-)

Glad to have you back, and you have come up with a gorgeous scarf. Waiting for the warm color scheme. I have these color variations in an Hermes scarf albeit in different proportions. :))

Wow, I love that scarf!!! What an amazing piece.

At first glance, before I scrolled all the way down, I thought the brooch was a fascinator.

You're right – it's rather too large for the rest of the objects in the image. (I'm going to blame jet lag…) But how cool would it be to show up for a business meeting dressed in impeccable business attire, with a wee feathered toque nestled in your hair?
That would drive the sales staff INSANE…
hugs,
Janice

I love this beautiful capsule! The In Transit outfit is professional, but not stuffy. Charcoal gray is a great neutral. It goes well with so many colors, especially those lovely shades of blue. I'm saving this one on my Favorites list! Thanks!

I am delighted that you had a great trip to an area so close to your heart, and that you so generously share your insights and experiences with your readers.
Your post this morning is has me smiling; I have a lot of blue and grey in my closet, and this reinforces my choices. What a gorgeous scarf and workable wardrobe plan! Mary

I love these clothes–and I love the idea of wearing, hidden in silk folds, a subversive scarf. :)

Welcome home. I enjoyed your photos on Instagram and had a special moment when I recognized the vintage jewellery shop on Portobello Road. I spent about an hour in that store in September while my husband was in the pub around the corner. I didn't buy anything but wow what a collection.

I loved the store, and saw some things I really liked, but her prices, in pounds, were the same as I might pay here in dollars! No thank you!

Swooning over the blue and grey and that wonderful scarf that might make one giggle to oneself when things in the boardroom become too serious.

Flannel blazer, fleece top — Yikes! I hope that "H" city is NOT Houston! :) Lovely, lovely colors and collection. — Liz

This is perfect timing. Blue in all of its various shades appeals to me on a deep, intuitive level – perhaps influenced by my January (Aquarius) birthday and my closet reflects that. Lots of blue, gray, navy and black. I am determined to empty my closet – completely – and sort through years worth of accumulation. With all the kids out of the house now (although not all of their stuff) I can take over one of their bedrooms for my project.
With your posts in mind I can assemble new combinations and photo them as a quick reminder. I think that will help ease the pain of discarding items that are unsuitable, unworn or worn out
Thanks for much for the inspiration.

Janice would you consider writing a post on scarf tying? I have a collection of 36" square scarves and I mean to wear them but each day I put one on and it just doesn't look quite right. I would really like to know your favorite ways to wear square scarves.

Check out Mai Tai's picture book for tutorials. I think there is a link on Janice's main page on the right hand side.

Ah! That's my color! Thank you! I can never think of just the right search term. I usually try "teal" or "turquoise" but those don't come up with the right dusky tones. This gives me some great ideas.
LOVE the scarf.

In your post of August 29th, you featured a beautiful Dolce & Gabbana lace skirt. (The color is described as maroon, but burgandy is the search term to find the post.) Fast forward, this week, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge wore a beautiful Dolce & Gabbana dress in the same material and color. You spotted this look months ago; good job! (I like the way you put the look together best, by the way.)

Those colours are exquisite Janice. The lovely blues are excellent accents, especially for anyone looking for alternatives to the more usual pastels. Really special, thank you!
