But it’s a beautiful painting, and it so vividly evokes that feeling when the weather is about to turn. I was particularly drawn to the simple, neutral color scheme:
Other Things on Her Mind
She travels with a lot of gear…
Actually, she’s ALWAYS carrying bags and bags of photography equipment, even if she’s not traveling. Photography is what she does, and she does it well.
So she decided ages ago that she was going to be very disciplined in her wardrobe. Not drab. Not boring. Just in control. For example, she wears jeans. Only jeans. If someone thinks she needs something else to wear, they’re welcome to buy it for her!
And she buys clothes in 4 colors. They’re plenty for her – she can always find what she needs, and she never has any trouble finding things that are interesting to wear. Interesting, and often very beautiful…
When she gets to her hotel and unpacks, she’s always delighted with what she sees arrayed in the armoire:
Plenty of options, and a range of different moods, based on the colors she chooses for the day:
Do you remember how Ansel Adams dressed? Galen Rowell? Eliot Porter? Nope, she didn’t think so…

Janice

My ideal casual/post-retirement wardrobe! I've promised myself that I'll keep a separate section in my wardrobe for 1 good suit & a dressy outfit or2 and then the rest of the time I'm dressing like this! I was never a beige person but it's been creeping in more and more lately (as long as I keep white or blue closest to my face) – in fact my one Fall clothing purchase so far is a beige cashmere cardigan.
I would have to add a couple of pops of red though – a) because I love it and b) because it was the first colour that popped out at me from the painting. Love that painting by the way.
PS – sad news from Italy – hope it's not the region that you are travelling to and that your friends are safe.

Janice,
I once took a a coordinated tan and blue wardrobe for a stay at my son's house, and I became incredibly bored with it by the end of the week – it felt all the same to me . But with the addition of perhaps brown, white, and a darker blue, it would have had the interest that I desired. I like how you broke down the colors here into sections, as you selected the pieces !

A great casual wardrobe. Lots of jobs require wardrobes this casual and lots of people who don't work want wardrobes this professional!

Oh, so lovely… I would totally add red accents though :)

Feeling such sorrow this morning about the devastating earthquake in Italy and sending solace to your friends, Janice, and their friends.

I would add one of those field jackets from LL Bean with all the pockets. I always notice that photographers seem to wear those to help with all their bits and pieces…….perhaps a red one?

This post and the one a few days ago featuring women who wear jeans have been my favorites recently. I have always loved jeans–and photography! I live in a hot, dry, and casual part of the US, and your posts have helped me figure out how to dress attractively for this area. And thanks for the encouragement to wear what makes us comfortable and happy. I grew up in the grunge era–not the most helpful decade for taste development. This year I've managed to assemble a wardrobe that looks grown up and put together but doesn't abandon the distressed and faded clothes I'm comfortable in. It's all about the colors, isn't it?

This is so close to my most usual travel wardrobe – I go with a darker taupe rather than beige though. Honestly, if I had my way I would live in jeans 100% of the time! – nancyo

If I could, I would live in jeans every day so this really appeals to me. Love the use of 4 neutrals and the way you pulled the wardrobe together in steps by using each color.
