Yes, I know everyone was expecting to see rubies, but I found that working with rubies was a lot like working with the emeralds back in May – very expensive, or else very traditional and staid.
So I did a bit of research and found that almost every month of the year has more than one birthstone – we love having choices!
Carnelian is particularly cool to have as a birthstone because it’s very affordable and it comes in a range of colors from a pale, almost blush shade, to really deep, dark red.
And please note, I don’t think you’d wear ALL SIX of these accessories at one time; but I could easily see 3 or 4 of them…
love,
Janice

I am in love with these selections…Carnelain! I am going to change my birth month!

I am a July baby and found a beautiful set of carnelian (necklace and earrings), a couple of years ago, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. I get a lot of wear out of it. Who knew it was also my birthstone?

This is one of my favorite accessory colours. I realize from all your birthstone postings that bohemian calls me! That suede tote and the tassel necklace and the UGG sandals….oh my.

I love that chunky necklace shown with the brick red dress. I hope our fictional July gal is a brunet with red highlights. She would rock carnelians!

Great post! And thank you for informing me that there are options in birthstones. Born in November, I have never really liked the yellow Topaz, but today I discovered that Topaz can also be blue! who knew! Now I can get my birthstone!

Hey, wait a minute! Blue topaz is one of the December birthstones. (Just kidding!)
December really doesn't seem to have one birthstone, but a motley collection of blue semi-precious gems, which varies depending on which list you read. Lapis, blue topaz, blue zircon, turquoise. It's like after 11 months, they ran out of nice gems and just threw the remnants into December. Sigh.

Gorgeous, all of it. And carnelian hues seem so much better suited to summer than ruby!

I love how you've accessorized the rust colored slip dress using a chunky necklace, thick strap shoes and larger teardrop earrings to hint at boho without being over the top bohemian or too delicate. Can't wait to try duplicating this outfit to see if it works for me.

Oh I could so see myself in that first outfit. Perfect in every way. Well done!

Looks like Uniqlo doesn't ship to Canada. I'm surprised as most U.S. clothing stores (LL Bean, Lands End, Nordstrom, etc) even give prices in Canadian dollars plus arrange the shipping easily.

I am December, and I love all my birthstone choices.

The jewellery industry has tried to come up with some less-costly options for birthstones, but as a July person, give me ruby any day, but I really like carnelian for what it is. The problem with such "semi-precious" stones is that they do not wear very well as rings or in bracelets. I would love to have that Jay King necklace though.
