As mentally we move toward a new season – warm or cool, depending on your location – it’s appropriate and practical to make certain that we’re not just shopping willy-nilly for pretty things without building a solid wardrobe base.
So I was reminded of my series from 3 years ago – How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe from Scratch! We started with trousers… a step that I still consider the most helpful for making certain that you’re prepared for upcoming weather and events.

Maybe adding nothing more than a really GOOD pair of pants to your existing wardrobe will be enough, for the upcoming season…

I appreciate Loft because they have two cuts for pants. "Marisa" is straight-hipped, with a wider waist, while "Julie" is curvy-hipped with a smaller waist. Too many brands are somewhere in-between, which for me (a Julie), means the hips are too tight while the waist gapes.
That is me exactly. I have a pair of grey Loft Julie fit Boot cut trousers and a pair of black ankle pants also in the Julie fit. I am very pleased with them.

I followed your advice, when I first read this article, and bought a pair of good quality black pants for work, slim fitting enough to look good under tunics etc but well shaped enough to be able to wear with shorter tops also. Of course I have other pants as well but these have been really great buy- and really versatile for travel as well. Thanks Janice.
This is a good reminder for me to look over my wardrobe for fall. I know I need some new short boots. I should look at pants too. They're always so hard to fit (sigh!).

I, too, think pants are the basic building block of a capsule wardrobe– I suggest a slim- leg pair, a wide legged pair and a slouchy pair–can change the look of any outfit, even if they are all black :)
