For new readers, on the first of the month (or for the first blog post of the month!) I have been working on this series – I start with six Hermes scarves, and then choose the same general outfit six times, based on the colors of the scarves. I keep accumulating the clothing chosen, and gradually build really amazingly interesting capsule wardrobes in six different color schemes.
Even though the weather is still relatively mild in Chicago, I’m ready for some sweaters! And some corduroy pants… Yes. I know that they make that schwooping noise when you walk. And yes, they tend to wear out between the thighs before any place else start to look worn. But nothing takes color (except maybe silk velvet…) with the same intensity, and nothing else screams cool weather to me the way a pair of cords can. If you can’t face the schwoop, you can always substitute regular pants…

Yes, these are the same grey corduroy pants. Neutrals can work in all kinds of different wardrobes – it’s often the colors around the neutrals that make the statement, and are more memorable!

Why yes, I DID do the happy dance around the apartment when I found both the sweater and the shirt in the perfect shade of blue. It’s a very good thing that I work from home…

I have to admit that every time I work with these wardrobes, my favorites change! I know that realistically the first one is the only logical wardrobe for me, but I could sometimes see being devoted to brown and shades of red and orange… or maybe going old-school navy and grey with red accents.

I actually love them all this month – I'm just in the mood for sweaters (although we've also had a bit of a heatwave here in Toronto over the past couple of weeks).
I think my favourite is the red v-neck sweater. I love the look of cable knits but with my – rather generous – boobs, it's just a no-go item for me. Round neck sweaters also do nothing for me so it's v-necks or cardigans. That shade of red is lovely and bright.

I noticed you're in Paris and not responding, but perhaps for when you get back? I would love to see some photos of the scarves TIED/WRAPPED! I'm not very naturally good at figuring out how to wear scarves other than one or two super obvious ways and would love to change it up!

Up until now the last wardrobe has been my favorite, but the addition of the L.L. Bean print shirt (which I recently purchased and really love) plus the amber clay-colored sweater to the first wardrobe has just brought this one into a virtual tie with the last one. All six collections are looking great, though, even the pastels which I don't wear. I truly enjoy this series, so thank you again for all the effort you put into it for us, Janice!
Snow today at our house so I'm ready for Flannel. I love that LLBean blue and green plaid in the olive grouping. Might have to use some will power. You are so right too about the rich color in corduroy.
And to think … I donated all of my cords this past spring, since I didn't wear them at all last winter. I am much more likely to wear a dress or skirt, tights, and boots than slacks all winter long. Love this series!!!

My favorite capsules are the ones based on the Hermes Carre en Boucle though it’s too warm for me and the Hermes Au Bout du Monde which leans a little more towards my coloring (I’d have to cool the bright orange coral maybe push it to a cherry red).
The third, fourth and fifth continue to be my favorites but they are all lovely.
Without a doubt, the olive, blue, and orange scheme is my favorite ! I crave color variety , and the various schematics here have made that very clear to me ! It was a personal insight that I suspected , and now I am certain for sure ! That having been said, all of the groupings here are lovely and have their merits !
I've never had a pair of cords before, only 'moleskin' trousers, but I quite fancy a pair this year in a nice dark grey. Janice, could you please add a coat for November's capsule? I'm going to buy a longer coat this year in wool for a change as I've found a pale grey one of good quality that actually fits me. My favourite capsule is the Navy, which is the closest to my palette except my red is actually berry tones. Sharon U.K.
