This image turns up frequently on Pinterest, and that makes me really happy! This might be the concept of which I am the most proud, of all of the work that I’ve done on The Vivienne Files. The idea of being able to be well-dressed and fully-prepared for most of what life throws at us with only SIXTEEN pieces of clothing… Simplicity, economic responsibility, and care for the environment, as well as a clearly-defined personal style – they’re all here!

A couple of years ago I had to work abroad for 3 months and took just 1 suitcase so I used this as a template. It worked brilliantly. I also took photos every day of what I was wearing so I had a record of what everything looked like together. Thank you! Irene
I love this system and as I posted before, used it when my daughter got her first job. We purchased 24 new garments for her using the same color scheme, one 4×4 with casual and formal work clothes and the other with casual clothes. That was she could dress up or down. It was a one-year job in a different climate, so very few of her college garments would work. A wonderful way to buy a coordinated wardrobe, all in one weekend! We made up two charts of the desired clothes and crossed the ones we bought off the list as we shopped. We were able to save money, too!
