This is such a great painting to look at when it’s still SO COLD here in Chicago; it feels like water, and growing green things, and sand, and sun…
I always picture this wardrobe as something for someone who lives all year at a place that’s a big summer vacation destination. She is always in touch with sand, sky and water, but wearing some warmer fabrics! This was her wardrobe at the end of March:
She was quite smitten with the navy dress post here from the end of March, so a navy shirt and pants seems like an easy way for a “non-dress” person to replicate that idea. As I said before – a navy column is a navy column!
Are the striped shoes too much? She was smitten, and sometimes you’re going to buy something that isn’t strictly sensible, but that brings you pleasure. Nothing wrong with that…
Navy linen camp shirt – Alex Mill; bag – Madewell; ivory and green Breton top – Boden; blue frilled top – Boden; scarf – Cassandra Hone; navy linen pants – Alex Mill; striped shoes – Boden
She’s making good, if not exactly linear, progress with her Weekly Timeless Wardrobe. I personally doubt that ANY of our six heroines will come out exactly perfectly right with this template, and that’s fine. These are guidelines, not laws!
Her wardrobe now feels a bit more balanced for seasons; this is another 20-piece capsule wardrobe that would work for an extremely long vacation. Start in Dublin in April, the on to April in Paris, and then May in Amsterdam, and June in Helsinki…
I dream…
She of course has lots of ways to wear these things, but it’s always helpful and interesting to actually lay out the pieces and look at them!
Navy and beige are a perfect background for almost ANY accent color… pink, purple, yellow, green…
love,
Janice
p.s. Twelve years ago (!), I pondered how many different ways one could wear a muted light purple v-neck sweater. You’re not amazed that there are lots of possibilities…

What beautiful colors. 💙🩵💚
The light blue shirt has a great cut. I’ve been buying a lot of striped items for a while now, and I still have some pieces in my closet.
This week is so lovely, with daily posts. Thanks Janice.
This is just beautiful. As someone who has lived on both the New England coast and the California coast, I can see this working famously for either one.
As I’m a dress person, I’d certainly have a dress/skirt (or three) in the navy, teal and neutral families for sure. I love that you’ve added in pieces from Boden. They have stunning pieces in these color families right now. The striped shoes are just the cutest, too!
Love the striped shoes! I have many many striped shirts in my closet. I do better with prints than solids and stripes are an easy way to go.
Janice,
It’s funny . When I see an all warm colored items post, I always feel the need to add a cooling element, like a blue or a green, but I don’t feel the need to add a warm colored item to all of the cool colors presented here . Maybe it’s the balance of the beige neutral ? And yes, this speaks beach location !
I have always enjoyed seeing two toned shoes , balancing a two toned top, as in your recent proportions retrospective, which was so instructive for me ! Thanks again for it !
🩵 my favourite so far! I could easily wear this wardrobe but like Ellen I would need a linen skirt for summer. One could easily add a pink coral top into the mix as a beautiful sunset over the water. How this makes my imagination run away. Love all these posts, thank you Janice.
I agree that some touches of pink/coral/orange would be a gorgeous addition to this wardrobe. I could see a few print pieces (silk scarves, a t-shirt, etc.) that combine the cool and warm tones fitting easily into this capsule too.
I personally don’t wear a lot of beige, and I don’t wear beige/ivory/white pants, but I do love the beachy color palette of this one. With some substitutions of chambray/denim and accent shades of the green/aquamarine/blue for the beige pants, and skewing the beige closer to ivory, I could probably make a successful go of this capsule though!
90 degrees today here in North Carolina, so these additions are perfect. I especially love this scarf; it is a work of art. I would not buy the striped shoes, but I would sure smile at someone wearing them.
If I were to have these striped shoes, I would make sure I had more items to wear with them, especially for a travel capsule. Shoes take up so much suitcase space. A bright green top or two and a green third piece would be essential to me. I do love blues, greens, and aquas.
Gorgeous and fun !!!!! Well done you.
