I love this painting – I think I need to look at some other works by him!
As with all of our heroines, this lover of muted colors already has a pretty complete wardrobe. 48 garments should give just about anybody PLENTY of outfits, don’t you imagine?
Her jewelry is great – and her scarves too! She’s had quite a lot of luck this year finding things that suit her:
Her bags and shoes are great too…
After last month’s plunge into holiday attire, our heroine thinks she wants one more “festive” top. She finds something that will be perfect with her velvet pants but can also be dressed down. The rest of her shopping allotment consists of three garments that can be worn together for a warm and soft green statement!
What kind of new outfits is she going to have, now that she’s finished shopping?
Even though she bought her 3 new green pieces to wear together, she can easily wear them in a number of different ways. There’s nothing wrong with buying an outfit, but you don’t want to be stuck wearing things just one way; what do you do if you irreparably tear your sweater the first time you wear it? Things happen…
While I can’t picture myself in this wardrobe, I WAS once told that I should wear green… I think I’ve been told (at one time or another!) that every color in the world would look good on me! What they will tell you to sell you something, eh?
Earlier installments of this wardrobe are available as follows:
And an old post that did in 2017 about a spa trip!!!
love,
Janice

This is a colour palette I have been expanding since colouring my silver hair copper. I am not keen on it for winter though.

Such a pretty, warm, rich color palette! While I know that many people don’t get dressed up, like we all used to, I think every woman should at least 1 dressier outfit in her wardrobe. A dress, or a sparkly skirt, in the chestnut color would really fulfill this.
How do others feel about hoodies for a “woman of a certain age”? It may be because I teach 10 year olds, but I just don’t feel comfortable in hoodies any longer. Unless I’m headed to the gym or yoga, I just feel like a joke cracking 4th grader in them. But, if others like them? Mazels!

I love zip up hoodies for walking the dog. Pull over hoodies not so much, but I have some which were given to me that I do wear. I’m pushing 70….. and work in a middle school.

This is the one I admire the most. The colors, the styles, the accessories. The way Janice has put it all together. Looks great!

Can recommend The Sak Cora Smartphone Crossbody if looking for a bit bigger size. Outer slip pocket for phone, large enough for small card holder/wallet, sunglasses and a few bits and bobs. I own several colors of this small crossbody.

I really like this wardrobe, and went down this color path a few years ago. Sadly, it was not for me 1) my hair went from brunette with reddish highlights to salt/pepper (though I do use a pastel purple which colors the salt part) 2) I found I couldn’t stick with the neutrals. Just craved more color. I still have some of the items – particularly the scarves – from that time, and occasionally am able to work them into what I’m wearing. Most greens look good on me, so those survived, and even some of the brown. I can certainly admire this wardrobe though.

What is the Sak made from? No info at all on the link. I’m noticing this more and more and it makes me suspect it’s some crap that wouldn’t justify the price if you knew.

thesak.com Couldn’t find reference where the leather bags are assembled. I also have the black Lucia crossbody, used every day for the last 3 years, no extra care taken to maintain it, still looks good, a softer pebbled leather. Easy to swap out the crossbody strap(s) if you don’t like the style(s).

Ellen S, to answer your question. I think it depends on climate. When I lived in a warm-ish climate a friend of mine said she thought woman wearing hoodies over 40 look juvenile. Now that I live in a cool and windy climate next to the water I can see the value of being able to pull a hood on when out on a brisk walk. Not that I have one. I do have a hooded jacket though, which of course is different. So for practical reasons I disagree politely :). For the sake of fashion you could be right. However anyone over 40 should really be able to wear what they heck they want. I am on the fence about it for myself.

Sheila, when I let my natural silver hair grow in I looked awful in most earthy colours, and also preferred myself in saturated colours. Since I toned with a light copper colour it is all good again.

Janice,
Sub in brown for the black, and this could easily be my Autumn wardrobe.
As to wearing hoodies inside a public building, I don’t , though I might wear one at home, and at age 79, I reserve the right to do so. Remember the outrageous outfits and costume jewelry that the late Iris Apfel wore, and was praised for doing so ?

These colours don’t suit me but I do like the way that they go together so well. I’m intrigued that you used a redder red in your archive post.
However, my daughter complimented me on my all blue outfit the other day – mix of light and dark blues. So thank you for developing this experiment based on the Magill.

It’s fun to be able to experiment with clothes that we already own – what’s the worst that can happen?

Have you been in Paris already or is it still in planning? there are quite a few beautiful works of Maurice Denis to be seen there..
Janice says
I leave on Wednesday! Not that I’m counting days or anything..

Janice, we will want a full report on the beautiful Notre Dame de Paris in its fully restored glory. (The restoration reminded me of your long-ago heroine with the very expensive but very beautiful wardrobe. That’s one of my all-time favorites of your posts.)
Janice says
That heroine will be here next Wednesday!
And if I can get into the church, I definitely will! I’m also planning to see the newly cleaned Madeleine Church, and there’s a new chapel re-opened in St. Sulpice…

Janice

The soft green colors in this month’s additions are just lovely! Not the exact same color but so well suited to wear together or mix and match into the wardrobe. Nicely selected!

This heroine is really not a skirt wearer.
I don’t own a single hoodie, so the jacket bothers me. (Neither do turtlenecks, by the way)
I’ve been taking photos of my outfit every day since November to see what I’m ACTUALLY wearing: very interesting.
Sheila says
Maria, I don’t take photos every day, but only if I wear something new or in a different combo. I realized this week I wear a top weekly I never would have guessed would have become a favorite that I’d wear that often. I also have StyleApp – which is good for keeping track on a calendar and has a “most worn” and “least worn” function. That’s always interesting as well. Things I thought I wore all the time, but really don’t.
Maria says
I’m still thinking about which app…
I wear different clothes every day, I even change my jackets/coats and shoes often. It’s also interesting which colors I choose (colorful). 🩶💚💙💛🤎❤️🖤
I can also tell from wearing photos whether it suits me.

Honestly this wardrobe is making me consider wearing black again! I haven’t for years – but with my hair turning glittery I think it might work!

Thought I’d weigh in on the hoodie question. I’m 73 and have a few which are quite handy in my part of the world. I have a college one that is fairly new so a little more cropped and modern looking. I wear it when I go workout or to game watching party with kids. Updating was a good move. I have an old one that is perfect for dog walking in the early morning hours. If it’s windy or misting it’s nice to have a hood. And then I have 2 zip front cashmere sweater ones. You know they have served me for years sometimes not getting worn for a long time and then feeling “right” again. ( one is this season’s new color, burgundy). I’ve worn them on the golf course and to nice restaurants. I don’t see ever getting rid of them.
