April 8, 2025 It’s snowing in Chicago. It might just be “lake-effect” snow – I live within sight of Lake Michigan – but it’s still startling, in April. But this heroine, big fan of the warmest, most intense colors, is ready for Spring!
This heroine feels that her colors are hard to find, and she therefore grabs things that she sees in her colors as soon as they’re available. I’m not actually certain that these colors are all that rare; I suspect we might find that we need to really stock up on olive and off-white at some stage. But she’s right – who could resist this golden yellow two-piece outfit, with MATCHING MULES! This is the kind of thing that she should be able to wear weekly through warm weather…
Earrings – Anthropologie; candied tangerine tee – J.Crew; Light orange (seriously!) linen top – J.Crew; estate green cotton cardigan – Lands’ End; charms necklace – Lulla Collection; pants – J.Crew; mules – Aerosoles
I wonder if this heroine might be happier with a template that included two “Autumns” and two “Springs?” If you live somewhere that never gets bitter cold, nor super-hot, it might be the right choice. For Ireland, I’m thinking that I could just skip the “Summer” 13, and add in another Autumn or Winter… So many climates, so many possibilities! Now, this wardrobe would be great for travel to someplace that’s warm during the day, but not terribly hot, and which cools down in the evenings. Mountains, I think…
Her new outfits are a bit of a challenge – making really good use of yellow pants requires some thinking… I see an ivory tee shirt, as well as an olive one, in her future!
Okay, I’m going to say it – this wardrobe would NOT tempt me. I look like I’m not well in some shades of orange and yellow. But I could take these garments, in different colors… love, Janice p.s. Ten years ago, we shared the last of the “Studying Proportions” posts – adding printed shirt and blouses. These garments can have a big impact on a wardrobe! p.p.s. If you missed yesterday’s “out of nowhere” post, I need to let you know that there are now Weekly Timeless Wardrobe templates available in EVERY POSSIBLE COMBINATION of seasons. Yes, 35 possibilities… Click the button below to be taken to where you can buy this monster of organization – $2.99 gets you all 35 templates in 2 different versions. One is the normal version, and one has the text within the grid “greyed out” so that you can write on it!

Perfect combinations. This is a wardrobe that is completely not my (life)style, but completely my color palette! I could see an alternative version of me wearing every item in this overview. The earrings are all going into my shopping cart. Beautiful!
I just love this capsule. Even though I don’t look good in head to toe olive green, I’m incredibly attracted to this grouping. I especially love the warm brights. The orange and bright yellow speak to my soul. I am obsessed with this two piece outfit. I also love the bright mules. I can totally see those bright mules transforming jeans and a plain white tee from basic to fabulous, along with either of the scarves.
I think I’ll be dreaming in bright yellow for weeks to come.
While the ‘swan’ wardrobe is still my favourite, I love this wardrobe for its cohesiveness. Everything just works so well together! It’s a pleasure to see.
Out of curiosity, does anyone live in a place that has two springs and two autumns? I live in a place that’s very seasonal – as in there is a distinct winter, spring, summer, and fall. I’m having trouble imagining a place that doesn’t get too hot or cold. I can only imagine very hot places like the Caribbean. Maybe France between Paris and the South (Lyons, Avignon area?) or Virginia, California or Japan?
Dublin – it seldom gets up to 80F, and doesn’t spent much time below freezing. I don’t believe they’ve ever seen below zero Fahrenheit…
I’m sure there are others, but I was thinking specifically of there when I said that!
hugs,
Janice
Also the Pacific Northwest. Where I live the temperature swing during the year is usually 40-80, with a few highs and lows that are outside of that. I love it!
The Netherlands. We exceptionally have long hot summers (usually not more than 3 weeks in a row), and the last time we had a proper winter must have been over a decade ago.
I used to live on the central coast of California, where the average daily high temperatures soar up to 68 in August and plummet all the way down to 62 in January. Many people there didn’t have HVAC systems at all, and the town next door didn’t even require floors in their building code! These places actually do exist… LOL
Although not all of these colors suit me, I do love this wardrobe. I’ve been incorporating orange into my wardrobe to wear as an accent to red and blue. Not quite there with wearing it with green, but maybe if the right pieces present themselves! Janice, I can’t even imagine the work you put into finding all these coordinating pieces for the wardrobes. Yousa!
Hours. Hours and hours…
love,
Janice
I waited to see this last installment to make sure, but the Magill is “head of the class” for me. I can substitute navy and chambray for the grays. I am slowly switching from white to a soft ivory and wear various mid-toned pinks. I love this heroine’s style best as well. So far, no skirts and her shoes are great! I am following it closely.
All of the installments are so well done. I think it would be difficult for someone not to “click” with at least one of them. Thank you for a beautiful diversion each morning you post!
These are my August colors. But, definitely no turtlenecks in August! 😂 🥵
Janice, There is nothing better than to sit down with my hot tea in the morning reading and slowly perusing your wonderful Blog. Thank you for all you do to bring fashion ideas to your many adoring readers. Enjoy the spring snow ❄️ . From inside, hopefully !
I would happily put all of these clothes right in to my closet! My style and my colors. Thanks Janice!
I am really enjoying all of these wardrobes. While these colours are not me, the actual wardrobe itself is very appealing and I could do this wardrobe in a different colour scheme. I enjoy bright colours and this one makes me smile. Where I live, we do have 4 Seasons although our winter this year was extremely mild and only had to shovel once this year. My personal wardrobe leans heavily into spring and fall, with summer and winter being fewer clothes. I am so fortunate to live close to a lake so summer is swimwear, coverups, dress, skirt and thats about it lol. We are not as far along with spring as the Pacific Northwest, but daffodils are up. Have a lovely week everyone.
This is a well-selected wardrobe, but man, it does not tempt me at all – if I wore that golden yellow color (light orange???!!!?!), someone would rush me to the hospital because I’m obviously very ill :D That flower print scarf just looks better and better in this capsule as more colors are added, and I am still happy to see the print shirt included. Some of the shoe choices in the sample outfits look a bit off to me for some reason. Maybe they are the right colors but the style doesn’t completely gel with the outfit to my eye? The sneakers are so good, though, I’d probably wear them with everything.
I love olive and sage. And this yellow suits me very well. I wore olive all last week. I wear these colors year-round.
I have colors from all the capsules shown in my closet.
For example, I like to wear olive with purple or gray…
Thanks, Janice, for your time-consuming search for the perfect pieces.
This is the only painting/wardrobe I am not even attempting to recreate. Lovely but not me at all. I still love seeing what you find and incorporate. I’m always impressed with the scarves! I wish I needed the 4 season template but a Fall/Spring combo with 3 summers works. I like to pretend that my cardigans are worn outside more than inside for the air conditioning. You have done a fabulous job with these paintings. Thank you for the hard work.
Haha. So true Amanda!
I have a very, very, strong reaction to this!! Ok, to be blunt, I hate the art and the colors. It’s such a contrast to yesterday’s post. It’s interesting how we react to color, isn’t it?
Love these colors!!!
When I saw the art my reaction was “yuck!” But then when I saw the wardrobe it was so pretty! I think the majority of the olives are closer to a dark sage except for the olive jeans. I do love the dress and the marigold tops and hoodie. None of these colors are flattering on me but a couple years ago I purchased a handful of marigold items for the cheer factor and I loved them. Didn’t wear them past March last year and haven’t worn them this spring either. But I’m not getting rid of them! I may need to be cheered up again! My friend Shauna would look lovely in this wardrobe. Fair freckled skin and fading long red hair.
Thank you for this series.
Any chance you could revisit the basic core wardrobes from last September with spring/summer accents? 3 neutrals plus 3 accents?
My son and my dad would both look amazing in these colors. My dad is a redhead with those deep copper curls, blue eyes and pale skin. My son has copper brown hair and deep brown eyes with that perfect pale complexion. They both look equally good with bright pink, bright orange, marigold, lime and turquoise.
I think bright or clear spring is how the seasonal color pundits would describe them, and this color scheme.
I would probably not pair these with that shade of olive though. It’s a little too muddy for my taste. A nice lime would probably work, along with a warm cream and dark brown.
Not mine but these colours always go well together. They blend into a cohesive wardrobe. I like the style too. I’m seeing a lot of “autumn/winter” coloured clothes in the shops. Is that reflecting fashion trends, customer preference or manufacturing decisions – clothes in fewer colours? I’m lucky of I can find anything in blue and pink, let alone shades of purple.
