I really love this painting – so simple, such lovely colors, such texture…
This heroine’s 16-piece “end of March” wardrobe in lovely, and would get one through quite a lot of travel:
This heroine was leaning toward warm weather clothes anyway – when she saw the foxglove dress, she knew for certain that she was on the right track! Neutral shorts and a matching tee shirt, and a pretty merino polo finish off her April shopping:
Charcoal tee – Lands’ End; necklace – MyAleph; lavender merino wool polo – Alex Mill; beaded bag – Anthropologie; chino shorts – Lands’ End; foxglove linen dress – Boden; sandals – SoftWalk
With her wardrobe augmented for warmer weather, this 20-piece capsule wardrobe could be used for round-the-world travel! (give me a suitcase and a ticket…)
Our heroine is all over the place with her Weekly Timeless Wardrobe plan, which kind of makes sense when you look at her wardrobe and realize that she has at least a few things for all four seasons…
And how can she wear her new clothes? With joy, and great personal style:
I love the idea of a wardrobe of all shades of grey, and then all shades of one accent color. Maybe grey and lots of shades of blue? hmm…
love,
Janice
p.s. Ten years ago, we looked at the second installment of how color can change proportions in an outfit.

I love the combination of purple and gray.
Even though I could live in this wardrobe for a while, I need more color. The pink dress would need to be more muted, more of a dusty pink.
All the capsules are so great this year.
Oh, I just love this. I wish, wish, WISH i could wear lilac/purple. This is a stunning capsule.
Janice, I adore your idea of an all grey capsule wardrobe with accents of blue. Blue can run the gamut from midnight to sky, with everything in between. I say “allons-y”!
Janice, just wondering: I cannot recall any outerwear being discussed with the capsule wardrobes! While you do add everything that makes the finishing touch: scarves, jewelry, shoes… is there a particular reason for this? Thank you!
Two things – I run out of space on the pages, and since we all live in such different climates, i would never be able to find coats or jackets that would suit more than a few of us at a time. Like today here in Chicago – it’s still wool season!
Coats are hard; I need to think about them more…
hugs,
Janice
That dress is so delightful! I can picture our heroine attending a summer wedding, or swishing down the avenues in Italy on a warm evening.
I was on the fence about whether this wardrobe would suit me, but the dress and new sandals clinched it. I’m in! I will probably order the dress and shoes and go back to get the quatrefoil earrings I have been eyeballing since they first appeared.
Just lovely. I burned myself out on purple and black a few years ago, but I could go for these softer colors. I don’t really follow the weekly timeless wardrobe, but I seem to be covered for anything necessary. One thing I did notice last year was not enough sleeveless tops, so those are on my “hunt” list for this year!
There came a point where I realized I did not have Michelle Obama arms, so I’m always on the lookout for some kind of sleeve!
Thank you, Danielle! LOL. I dont have Michelle Obama’s arms either! And long sleeves are pulled down in winter and pushed up in summer. Have a happy day!
Garnet Hill has some sleeveless cotton tees this year! I like the colors and the fit. I also burned myself out on purple and black in my 20s. I’ve had no desire to revisit it since then, though I do like a softer purple now.
I could take this on a trip as well Janice! :) Lovely!
Again, you’ve created magic with the accessories.
I LOVE this wardrobe! I already own many similar pieces. I am simply relooking at things I already own. I look forward to every installment to see what I might need to add to be like our heroine.
Oh my, I have a lot of thoughts this morning. Gray is one of my basic colors. My gray clothing hangs quietly in the closet, not asking for a lot if attention. Drab and boring, so I often go for something else. But when I do put on a gray column, it feels and looks surprisingly energizing. I just pulled out a charcoal mockneck lands end long sleeve tee that I did not wear all winter long! It is now on my bed with a silver and turquoise beaded necklace. VOILA! Dare I dress up a bit for shopping and a library run this afternoon? Well, Janice, this is exactly why I so love TVF. AND, yes, shades of blue with gray would be lovely.
So beautiful and calming.
I am wondering if you could send me the link to your capsule from last year that was all shades of brown. I would really like to see it if you still have it.
Thank you,
Elizabeth
Here’s a link to the last post about that painting – it was A Peasant Woman by Edgar Degas:

I really loved the way it turned out – effortless dressing, but still rich and interesting.

Janice
Janice, thank you so much for sharing the brown capsule clothes. I love it all. It is wonderful.
Warmly,
Elizabeth
My favourite though I’d be leaning more into purples with charcoal and silver grey the accent. Mid-grey looks awful on me. I’d have introduced pattern and texture too. I have a dress this colour. I wear it with an ivory cardigan with lilac flowers on it.
The blue Magill painting last year inspired me to experiment with all blue outfits. I was complimented today on my all blue outfit – sky blue boucle long jacket, navy blue wide leg trousers and a multi blue leopard print top.
I will happily introduce prints into these wardrobes when I can find them; if I see something that appeals, it’s either hideously expensive, only available in XXXXXS, or they don’t have any “flat lay” photographs available. It’s maddening!

Janice
