Still a favorite – maybe because it’s based on black, or maybe because I find Rothko paintings fascinating. Seeing them on a screen does NOT do them justice; they are layered, and shaded in a way that no computer can replicate!
Coming into the shopping frenzy that is December, our heroine has a pretty well-stocked wardrobe. When we arrange a number of clusters, or outfits, or just dresses (which of course don’t need anything else), we find that there are few things for which she would not be well-dressed:
Even after we pulled out all of the things above to show how many outfits she has, she STILL has a bunch of garments:
She also has what is (to my taste!) an enviable collection of jewelry and scarves:
And she’s got most of the essential shoes and bags that you could want!
But she still shops – first thing she finds is a top that will be great for hot weather – or a really warm, casual party! After that, she just settles in to pick up an essential black cotton turtleneck, which she didn’t have. (how odd – I usually make sure the entire world has one!)
She also spots a beautiful velvet skirt (which is selling really fast…), and then a cardigan with ivory trim!
Her brooch is festive, but still black and ivory! And her new scarf is small, but the perfect neutrals…
How will she wear her new things?
Why yes, this wardrobe would be pretty perfect for me…
You can see the earlier blog posts about this wardrobe here:
and the Christmas Introduction!
Also – I used this painting YEARS ago for a wardrobe…
love,
Janice
p.s. Ten years ago, I looked to “seasonal” color guides, and chose some scarves that I felt would be great for each of the 4 seasons…

The mileage our heroine will get from thes new additions will be substantial. Adding the velvet skirt really covers the events that may come up this winter. I really love the kitten heels.

Gosh, she’s a lady! I would say, she’s the most refined heroine of the six. Not my cup of tea (I lean towards more casual style and softer hues), but one of my friends used to wear pearls and elegant jackets since the morning and as a brunette (Bright Winter/Bright Spring?…) loves black and white with bright accents. And she’s a beauty. I totally see her in Rothko!

I think this is my favorite. I’m intrigued by the red pink orange top. And when you pair it with the coordinating pants on the Wolf & Badger website…serious whappage. Although, the times I would wear such an outfit are minimal. I love hot pink and orange. (I actually bought the pink linen dress you featured). The accessories are my favorites. I think I could get a lot of mileage from the Rothko.
However I know I would stray from this palette just a bit. Magpie that I am. I would have to add turquoise at some point. You did a 3 part post on turquoise, hot pink, and orange top back in May 2013. I have it pinned in various places. So if I just added a wee bit of turquoise to this, I think it would be perfect for me.

Mostly this wardrobe hasn’t been quite my thing. But this set of garments look really good together. That pink and orange tshirt just works somehow lol. And the sweater, cardigan and velvet skirt is so classic and chic. If I wore black I’d totally take those three garments in a heartbeat!

Today is my birthday and I can’t imagine a lovelier gift than this colorful, happy collection! I am a huge fan of pink and orange together. I would love to see a cozy, beautifully made pink and orange sweater to brighten up our heroine’s winter wardrobe…maybe in an unexpected pattern. How much fun would that be?

I love the hot pink and orange! I also love black velvet, but neither black nor white really work on me (silver hair, medium fair, hazel eyes), or the city I live in (Lisbon).
Is there another neutral that you would suggest with the pink and orange? Navy?

As a color magpie myself, I could see wearing the pink and orange with either a sort of warm pale dove gray or a winter white. Charcoal in a pinch. I feel that navy would be too dark and bright navy would just be too blue!

I love the tri-color top! I’m going to find a way to make it because that is seriously pricey for a casual shirt. I had to look back so I can order the flower hoop earrings. Great collection!

I think I like this wardrobe most of all even though I have no pink or orange in my wardrobe. If I were to start over from scratch I might go in this direction.
I also wholeheartedly agree with your comments on Rothko’s paintings. They are stunning in real life.

I actually do wear orange and pink (and red and violet and yellow) together, but for some reason just can’t get excited about this wardrobe. Maybe it’s the “style” being less casual than what I would wear, or maybe it’s the black and white pieces – colors which I rarely, if ever, wear….

This is such a striking and tricky colour combination because the pink and orange need to be of the same intensity.. If anyone had created your first version ten years ago, this wardrobe expands it. Well done.

What a treat receiving these every day. I know it is because you are going on holiday soon and thinking of us. Of all in this series, i like this one the best, though the O’Keefe is pretty stunning as well. The style of this one speaks to me, i could be very happy in most of those pinks. It is casual, yet has a pretty feminine feel about it. She could go to almost any kind of event and be comfortable with those choices. For myself, i would have to substitute orange for turquoise, orange and yellow are hard colours to wear, but if one can pull it off it is a striking combination. Thank you for this inspiring series.
