Our last visit with our six heroines! First, let’s take a last look at our heroine who wears a stunning amount of red. Her art inspiration is from Georgia O’Keeffe; any painting by her has the potential to spark the ideas for a great wardrobe. Her lines are simple, her colors few, but stunning…
Before this powerhouse of PR and communications goes shopping, let’s look at her existing wardrobe, in a slightly different way.
She has plenty of outfits already; when you look at your own wardrobe, outfit by outfit, you might find that you already have most of what you need…
A dozen outfits, and still seventeen more garments. For many people, this would be sufficient; for others…
She also takes a good long look at her jewelry and scarves; I would need more scarves, if this were me…
Conversely, this would be plenty of shoes and bags for me! We’re all different, so you have to figure out what’s right for you. It’s difficult, when everyone is screaming at you to buy the “must have” item of this second…
Our heroine finally realizes that she can really lean into the whole holiday thing! She’s got a lot of events, so three festive red separates will get a lot of wear… And then she also realizes that she would love a good workhorse sweatshirt for her down time!
You can’t really tell that the sweater has sequins woven into it! I love that…
Let’s look one last time at eight new outfits our heroine created by buying four garments. This should always be the rule – one new garment should equal at LEAST two new outfits. Better if it’s three or four…
You will know this heroine when you see her – she’s got a bright and glowing personality to go along with her wardrobe!
love,
Janice

And interestingly, I did a wardrobe with this painting two years ago!
p.s. Ten years ago we were discussing festive jewelry that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg – there’s plenty of it out there! Just be really picky about quality; you deserve something that will stay together and not have the colors flake away…

I’m with you on the scarves to shoes/handbags ratio. And, the real magic of shopping with discipline and intention is how easily you can find 2-5 (or more!) new outfits with a new purchase. This wardrobe really has that ease of building outfits. It’s so useful how you’ve shown us so many ways to view and evaluate our wardrobes.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!!!! I also agree with you on the shoes/handbags ration, though my shoe collection is growing as I invest in more colorful clothing and I find myself also purchasing more colorful shoes… I also LOVE the way you have this all laid out. Just perfect. Thank you Janice for a wonderful start to the week. One of our smoke alarms started going off last night – battery died – so it’s already been a long day 😂😂😂

Sheila, I hate it when smoke alarms go off at night. I have Never had one go off at, say, 2 o’clock in the afternoon, lol.

This is lovely. I’ve learned recently that red makes me happy when I wear it. I particularly like how you’ve linked each of the past months for this wardrobe at the end. That is so helpful. Cheers to you, Janice!

Love this, for the holiday season and year-round. Red has been a staple of my wardrobe since I was a teenager, and this wardrobe makes me very happy.

I love this wardrobe and am kind of sad to see it come to completion. But I am excited to see all the other “old friends” from 2024 finish out as well. Plus I can’t wait to see the new collections start for 2025!
And I can’t believe we are just one month away from 2025. How did that happen?

Those red velvet pants have some serious whappage! Love them! For me personally, I’ve never really figured out how to properly wear a scarf unless it was to deal with sub zero temperatures. I’ve found that I also can’t really wear earrings because I’m allergic to the metals they make posts from and my holes keep closing up on me lol. So my touches would be invested in pretty necklaces and bracelets and rings.
For bags and shoes, most years all I need is a cross body, a clutch wallet, and a tote and I’m good to go. As well as a pair of sandals, loafers, sneakers and winter boots. I guess I’m a little bit of an accessory minimalist lol. Maybe that’s an area for me to expand into now that I have mostly completed my wardrobe (for now).
Looking forward to seeing the other five wardrobes!

I have loved watching this wardrobe grow! Each time you feature this piece of art I study it for days. I think it was March of 2016 you did a dressy travel wardrobe with it. Red makes my heart sing for sure! Thank you

The best part about having the clothing of your wardrobe all sorted out is that you can put all the energy into building up your collection of scarves, jewelry, and shoes/boots (and handbags if you are so inclined)! For me, scarves would 100% be the special sauce of this type of wardrobe that has a lot of neutral and solid pieces (esp. for winter; in summer, necklaces and scarves both come out to play). You absolutely do not have to stick to the wardrobe’s palette when purchasing those scarves either. Those grey and white outfits could be jazzed up with pretty much any color/print of scarf, and you really don’t need to repeat those accent colors anywhere else in the outfit for them to have an impact. Also remember they don’t have to all be $$$ silk scarves purchased new; the variety of lovely scarves you can buy secondhand, silk or otherwise, is amazing.

All of this is so true – when I go to Paris, I’m always amazed at the degree to which scarves do NOT have to go with anything! Of course, when I’m putting items into a static image, that doesn’t benefit from movement, smiling, or gestures, I try to come pretty close to matchy-matchy…
love,
Janice

This is so inspirational. I would love to do this as a pink and grey or purple/lilac and grey, I would also want more scarves but also more jewellery, particularly in the accent colour. I do have a lot of shoes but only because I have very wide feet and when I find a pair that fits I buy them in every available colour. As for handbags – a large grey shoulder bag and a grey/silver fancy bag which is also big enough to hold a lot of stuff.

I love the red blouse with the bow. I have one like it, in chiffon, with a short tulip sleeve. Great for our summer christmas. The sequined jumper reminded me that in the 80s, I had a red moss-stitch jumper threaded throughout with gold, which I wore for almost all winter celebratory events. Gorgeous wardrobe, Janice. I hope your ribs are continuing to mend.

It sounds like a lot of us are in the same place. In that we are happy with our color palette, silhouette and style but would like to refine our accessories. That’s where I am at 66 anyway.
If you need/want a reason to buy another scarf, my friend taught me that when it’s really cold wrap a silky scarf around your neck inside your coat and another big fluffy one outside your coat. I just visited some French Christmas markets and saw twilly type scarves tied to handbags-which is a look I am totally here for.
