Note to all: if you’re shopping for scarves, CHECK THE FIBER CONTENT! There are unscrupulous places on the internet selling perfectly nice polyester scarves for the same price as wool and cashmere scarves! And if you dig just a bit, the exact same scarves are available for literally 20% of the “wool/cashmere” price. A shocking, opportunistic stunt that’s taking advantage of a brand name…
Quintessentially Autumn
Every year, usually in October, there are hundreds of them, just in the US: “Autumn Glory” (in Oakland Maryland), the Springs Festival (in Springs, Pennsylvania) and tons of others – FALL FESTIVALS!!!
These are just two that were part of my childhood…
Get yourself something cider and pumpkin, wear your fall clothes, admire the leaves, and the decorations, and the wee children in costumes – what could be a better long weekend?
And could these be better colors for your road trip?
I personally believe that every woman living in an even remotely cool climate should own two flannel shirts. You think you won’t wear them, and then one day you realize you’ve had them BOTH on this week, and you can’t imagine living without them…
And one of you genius heroines pointed out just in the last few days how much you depend on tan leather goods… How perfect for this time of year!
Today’s heroine packs late on Thursday night – and smiles with anticipation…
There’s literally no way to do this wrong – unless you start wearing your shirts as skirts and putting your pants on your head. In which case, call me before you leave the Bed and Breakfast, okay?
Since Belovedest and I have had to cancel our trip to London and Paris this week (we were to have left on Thursday afternoon…), this might be what we do, once or twice, in the next month or so…
No chance on Planet Janice was I flying to Europe with seven broken ribs!
love,
Janice

Sometimes fall outfits are too brown for my liking. This with the rust and cream is right up my alley! I hope you are feeling better. You must have had quite a tumble.

Good to see you feeling well enough to post. I wasn’t sure you would. Our neighbor got COVID the day before they were to leave for Spain – just so you don’t feel alone! I love everything about this. Fall is just my favorite time of year both in nature and the wardrobe. I wear flannel shirts almost year-round by themselves or toppers. Can’t have too many in my book. Much to my surprise I’m adding orange and red this year to go with the greens I already have. Sheer awesomeness. Today a coworker told me I look like a work of art. I’m not quite sure about that, but I do love my fall colors. Thank you Janice – and I”ll definitely have to take a look at that bracelet!

I’m delighted to see that the broken ribs didn’t break your sense of humor.

I’m sure the decision to cancel your Europe trip was disappointing, although wise. A few weekends out with this travel wardrobe doing “the fall thing” may be just the ticket to enjoying time closer to home! I just finished a fall long-weekend, packed VERY similar to this, and enjoyed myself thoroughly. (backpack only travel, fit under the seat on the plane). Ate all the things (fried stuff that has no business being fried at a country fair… oh my!), walked all day (so much art), and had a fabulous time. This wardrobe is fall perfection!!! The only thing I would suggest is to add a cream tank or short-sleeved tee – the weather lately has been juggling between seasonally-appropriately cold and “what do you mean its 70F at the end of October?!?”. For that day, I would swap the cream sweater-skirt-tights out for cream tank-skirt-no tights; and grab a flannel as a layering option/2nd layer/to add in the evening.
Enjoy that cider!!!

Similar to your helpful warning about polyester scarves, I do take a look at the content of sweaters. I love that first J. Crew cardigan, but no way I’d pay $228 for something nearly half acrylic. Or really, polyester anything—makes you smell like New Jersey, as Roseann Roseanandan used to say.

Love this! My favorite palette. The bracelet is sold out! There must be more of us green and rust gals than you’d think.

Don’t worry Debbie. I have more bracelets on the way. The Green Forest Jasper was quick to run out but it should be here later this week. If you want, you can sign up to be notified when it;s back in stock.

In New Orleans, we are still having temps in the 80s. I’m wearing things that look like fall but feel like summer. Love this wardrobe. Now, if it would only cool down …

Doing the same in Sugar Land TX

Thanks for the additional ideas. I’ve incorporated all three colors into my wardrobe. It’s been hard to find d the right green top, all have had to be returned. Yes, cream/ivory will have to do.

Always love these colors, just add navy and yellow and that is my closet.
Now, if only I could find patterned flannel shirts made for women that aren’t plaid, checked or some kind of ditsy print.

So glad to see you are on the mend. Broken ribs are a real pain. I did that a few years ago plus three vertebra and right wrist. These are my favorite colours for autumn. Thank you for the suggestions. I think I need to cut down so going to try your 33 items. Prayers go out to you for quick heeling so you can go on your trip-soon.

Janice,
For some reason, my response could not post at the time of this release, so here goes again .
I am loving how seeing a warm red ( on my monitor, though it’s being called rust ) can extend my olive green season, beyond using just mustard, rust, and denim blue . I would wear all of these pieces in a heartbeat , although my hubby tells me that I am not “ the flannel shirt kind” , whatever that means !
