Let’s drop in on our other three heroines… First up, my second-favorite wardrobe, maybe….
Ah, there was a day when I would have worn the daylights out of this wardrobe:
And the accessories… sigh…
For no good reason that she can identify, this heroine found herself (1) wanting some grey, calm, almost inconspicuous clothing, and (2) wanted to grab some of the good winter things now that it’s JULY and they’re starting to arrive in stores…
seriously, if there’s something for which you particularly hanker for the winter, start looking soon…
L.L.Bean is where she found herself, and this is what she chose:
How can you resist a scarf that reminds you of your favorite painting?
Her new wardrobe doesn’t really change much, except for that plaid shirt! What a departure…
And her accessories are wonderful – if any woman is ever going to wear red boots, it’s this woman!
She’s provided herself with a bunch of calm, simple outfits….
as well as some that are more colorful…
Our next heroine’s painting is beginning to appeal to me more and more… There’s something about these women, and these colors, that doesn’t grow old!
Her wardrobe coming into July was pretty practical, and covered all of the bases well!
Her accessories make all of the difference, as is true for so many women!
This heroine decided that she was going to invest in a couple of absolutely neutral summer essentials, and then add to them with some olive accents. Her accessories took a while to find, but they are just the ticket!
Now, her wardrobe has a bit more black – not a ton, but all of the essentials…
And her accessories are lovely. I get the feeling this heroine likes bracelets?
Her new clothing can obvious be worn as a few outfits, all on their own. But her new pieces mix into her existing wardrobe easily. This is an easy step to skip, but it’s really essential. If your new clothes don’t “fit in” with your existing wardrobe, maybe you’ve gone astray. You can do this – everything doesn’t have to be entirely integrated, but that’s a deliberate, conscious decision – don’t let it be an error.
This next color palette is the essence of nature, to me; I could grow to love this…
Her incoming wardrobe has a range of her colors, and gives her plenty of options…
Her accessories are soft and lovely…
Here’s another heroine who stumbled into autumn clothing, and decided to take the plunge early. If you’re hard to fit, or you like colors that aren’t common, or you want to be certain that you get ALL of the coordinating pieces, this isn’t crazy…
This soft middle brown brings a new, more blended feeling, to her wardrobe:
Her new boots are going to be workhorses! And that blanket scarf… sigh….
This heroine now has a fresh TON of outfits…
Honestly? If I were to start over (heaven forbid!), I might go with this last wardrobe.
Or I might make up one all for me; I’m going to have to have some purple somewhere…
love,
Janice

How can you go wrong with a cashmere sweater? Accessorize it in any direction and you’re all set! This is another excellent installment in this series.
Diane says
Thank you for the reds! Can’t wait to put my “related” items into your great outfit ideas!
Checked the LLBean sale, also. Favorite already gone!!
Janice says
Keep checking – it’s not unknown for them to find things! Or phone one of the big L.L.Bean stores, like some in the Chicago suburbs. They very possibly still have what you want.
hugs,
Janice

I love all the additions. The clothing brand I like had a pre-sale of their winter items about a month ago. But they don’t ship until October…. so yes, I totally get buying winter in July. The O’Keefe is just stunning, and that Pashmisy scarf is absolutely amazing. WOW. A few years ago I would have tried to make myself fit into the Denis or the Nash as more neutral and “calm” (?) wardrobes. I like both of them, now I know I don’t like wearing them. 😁 For some reason I had a belief that as I went gray I needed to go more muted. That ain’t necessarily so. All of these are just wonderful and the new additions are perfect. Thank you! Beth T – thank you for your kind comments the other day. My husband refers to my clown closet, I usually call it my crayon box closet – which I think I heard from someone here. Today it’s orange pants with a lime green top and a very lightweight Kimono which ties the two together. Have a lovely day everyone.

Every so often a post hits home the fact that I positively swoon over the monochromatic outfits. This month’s additions to the Nash wardrobe is perfection! I want everything! I have to consider adding a darker brown to my wardrobe – it blends so beautifully with those lighter browns from Lands End.

Great addditions for all six. While I know the time to start cold weather shopping is now, I have a hard time looking at sweaters when it’s in the 90s, lol. Still, it must be done. 🙂. Still prefer the Magill, the Okeefe is really growing on me and I have subdued my infatuation with the Denis. The Nash set is becoming more and more appealing. While the Rothko and Klee are well done I couldn’t manage either of them, lol. I still find the look back instructive.
Also, not finding the Buy You a Coffee button ?
AmyM says
These are lovely; I especially find that last set so city.
Did you drop the Klee painting? I saw you ran the O’Keefe reds both Monday and today.
AmyM says
Gah! I saw my phone autocorrected. Should be cozy, not city. Sorry!
Sheila says
She ran the Klee on Monday and introduced pastels. I didn’t see the O’Keefe until today?
AmyM says
Ah, my mistake. The cover photo for Monday’s post doesn’t show the Klee but I see it’s in the body of the post.

I’m new to this series and playing catch-up. I am most drawn to the Nash. I have blue eyes and brown hair and I am 71, if that matters. This looks like a great wardrobe for a retiree who likes the country more than the city. The city is a great place to visit, but too noisy for me. This color palette is a departure for me, but I think it would suit me. Now I am going to have to take a fresh look at my wardrobe and think about going in a different direction. Thank you for these fresh ideas.

Difficult to shop for cold weather when it’s 110 degrees out!! I own so very much for winter!! It’s my favorite season!! I know what I need & will concentrate on accaurying these items!!
Pepper from Minnesota says
More and more as these wardrobes develop I am finding myself drawn to the Nash. I could wear absolutely everything in it with perfect happiness. I might want to add some soft pink, lilac and periwinkle to round it out as those are my favorite colors but as a base? It’s perfect.
I love looking at the Dennis and the O’keefe wardrobes as well. But they don’t quite sing as loudly as the Nash for me. In younger days when my hair was a bit more auburn and the white hadn’t started to creep in, I might have happily gone with the Dennis.
My rankings for the six now stand thusly for my personal taste:
1. Nash
2. Magill
3. Dennis
4. O’keefe
5. Rothko
6. Klee
I’m VERY much looking forward to seeing how these all evolve. Maybe as fall things come out the Dennis will fine a few more rust items to round it out.
Happy July!

If anyone is particularly interested in Georgia O’Keefe there is a wonderful book by Wanda M Corn which accompanied an exhibition at Brooklyn Museum ‘Georgia O’Keefe Living Modern’, which which describes how her whole life had the same aesthetic as her paintings. She was an incredible seamstress and sewed the most beautiful garments. Indeed, I confess I find her wardrobe more interesting than her paintings! Highly recommended.
Beth T says
It is odd that she is known for her paintings rather than her sewing skills. Sewing has had a resurgence in recent years. My family are avid fans of the Great British Sewing Bee. I remember years ago as a public Librarian in the UK, all the local school kids were asked to study Georgia O’Keefe for art. We had one book in our area! It had to be put behind the desk for Library study only and wasn’t allowed to be taken out.
Beth T says
Oh the Nash is feeling really balanced now. Perfect for a walking the woods. I learnt today that Komorebi is the Japanese word for sunlight filtering through trees, in particular the rays of light. Just wondering if you are going to revisit the Japanese seasons again?
The O’Keefe is my idea of stress dressing – grey with an accent which would ideally be shades of purple or pink.
Shrebee says
Janice,
Parc and Lane for me , and most likely combined, but dropping the black .
Shrebee says
A few more printed bridging tops in both groupings would be nice to find !
Beth T says
My wardrobe is full of floral bridging tops! Grab a printed top, add coordinated tops, bottoms and accessories – done. I don’t think too hard about other possibilities when I find a colour combo that works but it is nice to try some variations to brighten up a dull day. The variety comes from having different tops and bottoms that could be put with said patterned top which then leads into a holiday wardrobe. I like to experiment with coordinating scarves too which is a challenge not to look too busy. My scarves are mainly floral, paisley, animal print or dots. Plain ones will have some trim or be made from a glimmering fabric.
Dee says
They are all so beautiful. Wish i could do red as the O’Keefe is so appealing.
Thank you Janice for all these wonderful ideas. I really must learn how to be more disciplined when it comes to my own wardrobe.
Beth T says
Swap out the red for your favoured accent or wear a different shade of red/burgundy if this red is too bright. I wear raspberry red in summer and burgundy/wine in winter. I wear light grey in summer and mid to dark grey in winter. The principles of building a wardrobe with grey as a neutral are just the same.
Lily says
I give up on me! I will never be able to stick to a palette. I wore pink/yellow/blue/green this past spring, and I bought all neutrals (7 of them) for summer!
Sally in St Paul says
Buying now for autumn has some logic, but I am just not at all ready to even look at warm clothing, so it’s hard to get in the right mood for these new pieces. But focusing on the Parc/Denis wardrobe, I really like these additions! I’d love to see more prints in that capsule.
Beth T says
Summer is a bit patchy in the UK at the moment following a very wet and cold Spring. We had a few days of hot sun recently but most of the time it has been average or below average for the time of year. Nice on a sunny day, like today, but if it’s cloudy, then it’s cool, dull and dismal like early autumn. So some of my late summer/early autumn clothes are still in my wardrobe. Yesterday was cool and cloudy day. As I was going out in the afternoon, I needed to look a tad smarter than usual. The first thing I grabbed was a long-sleeved teal green and fuschia floral shirt, added plum colour trousers and a trench coat over the top. I had fuschia camisole underneath the shirt for a bit of warmth instead of a jumper/cardigan which I find too bulky under the coat. I was rather pleased with the combination and will definitely wear it again. I was able to wear a teal and purple floral necklace with it which I rarely wear. A win, I say.
Sally in St Paul says
Teal and purple is a really nice combination! I usually wear it with navy but am thinking some additional experimentation is in order.
We’ve had some cool, rainy days but I kind of love those so I don’t mind! But not trench coat weather.
cherrie mortemore says
I love that Nash more every time something is added. I think that medium brown is the ticket!
Sandy b says
BTW, massive sale at Lands’ End.
And Happy 4th to all.
BookGoddess says
The Klee and Magill are definitely my favorites. I like the Klee because the colors seem like a great option for tropical weather, and I love the green. I would leave out the pale pastels, but I just bought a really nice chambray shirt at J. Jill that would work well.
The Magill is very much like the travel wardrobe I packed for a Rhine cruise, along with a few touches of red. It would also be great with a bit of Kelly green.
The O’Keefe wardrobe is classic, and would suit my coloring, but it looks too wintry for most of the year in South Florida. I almost like the Rothko, but I think I yearn for some cooler colors. The other two wardrobes are well done, but the warm neutrals would not do much for me.
Brilliant accessories!
