For those who don’t pay attention to such things, the Pantone 2024 “Color of the Year” is Peach Fuzz. Very pretty, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that we can find clothing in this color!
Our heroine is smitten with this painting, and she just knew that someone, somewhere, would eventually introduce clothing that would be perfect…
She knows full well that taupe is a miserably difficult color to find in clothing, so she’s prepared to wear white with her new accent color, if necessary. And she’s also willing to be persistent, and patient, in the hunt for taupe!
These are the colors she wants for her new wardrobe accent:
She’s not entirely sure how much of this new color she will purchase – she’s going to approach this gradually… A French 5-Piece Wardrobe (aka five items – clothing or accessories) might be where she stops, or she may venture further. It’s wise not to commit until you’re sure how much you love your newest love!
But right away she puts together this outfit:
This color is called “peony,” and she loves it! Although it’s not the color she usually thinks of for peonies; someone clearly has a different flower experience.
So she jumps in with three more garments, and the always wise gold accessory grouping:
She really loves her new striped shirt, so when she realizes that there are pants that match, she’s easily persuaded! It’s very possible, of course, that she already owns a white tee shirt…
And why not a sweatshirt and shorts? Many of these clothes won’t make it past the first cool fall day, but a sweatshirt (with her striped shirt under it?) is something she can wear any cold day. She will bring a bit of her summer warmth into the dead of winter!
Here’s the 10 garments and 14 accessories she has assembled. Yes, the wardrobe would be a prettier image if her taupe pants magically became white pants, but she really wants to start accumulating taupe clothes as they become available.
These clothes will, of course, make a nice Perfect 10 Packing wardrobe:
With a bit of judicious editing, one could easily whittle down the number of “Peach Fuzz” items to a French 5-Piece Wardrobe. Or if you find that your affection for this color is serious, add on more – there are no rules!
How can she wear these things? So many possibilities…
I’m in the process of adding a handful of things to my wardrobe in the elusive color “Purple Haze” from Colorful Standard. I love it…
love,
Janice
p.s. Ten years ago, I was still talking about florals! I thought I would try to break floral prints into a few categories, to make it easier for us to choose among them all.

This has my name all over it! I love all shades of coral-ish colors. I’d love to see a “peony”/peach fuzz print dress somewhere in this mix, if it exists, too, as well as a cardigan. Sometimes you need that extra layers on your arms, but a pullover doesn’t work.

Check J.Crew – they have tons of this color right now!

Sorry Peach Fuzz reminds me of the 1980’s when everyone wore peach whether it suited them or not. The odd thing is that peaches are not that colour. I like soft pink and grey/taupe which is the nearest that I’ll get to this one.
However, I love the floral look back. My wardrobe is full of florals. I’ve just acquired another floral scarf and brooch as a present. The scarf is a very subtle iced silver with soft red and yellow flowers with blueish leaves. The brooch is shades of blueish. Yesterday, I wore the scarf with silver grey linen trousers, silver grey cardigan and a raspberry red t-shirt. I’ve been at a loss to know how to wear red apart from with dark blue.
Thanks to you, I reminded myself of the O’Keefe grey and red wardrobe in this year’s Six Scarves Project. This new look has mileage. The scarf also goes with teal blue but I’m not sure of the red with it and I don’t wear yellow. Perhaps a pale grey top?

Please tell me where you bought your silver grey cardigan and linen trousers. I think we have similar colouring and I have been searching for this colour for years.
Beth T says
The cardigan was from M&S. The linen trousers were from Asda. I had a look for some blue ones yesterday but all they had were beige, olive,,sage and rust.
The greys aren’t an exact match but close enough light grey.

If I had unlimited funds, I’d dump my current wardrobe and take everything here! It’s simply gorgeous! This would make me happy everyday!

Very pretty. To me the taupe sticks out like a sore thumb but recognize the “get it while you can” thinking. Regarding florals, I used to avoid them as I always felt as if I looked like my mother when I wore them. She loved large floral prints. That being said, I seem to be accumulating more of them, but in smaller prints, which don’t overwhelm me. Or as an accent – say floral embroidery on a jacket, top or sweater. I truly love the beautiful accents. I have discovered the small print florals allow me to tie in other colors than just the one or two I might have worn with a solid top.

It’s always important to get the scale of the pattern right.

Janice,
My monitor shows this lovely color as being more of a delicate peony pink, not peach, which has a but more orange in it . While it’s lovely , too much of any one accent color for me would be — too much ! A French 5 would be plenty ! I had a dear roommate in nursing school who had everything pink, down to her toothbrush ! While she is my forever soul sister, the overdose of constant pink had me avoid buying anything pink for many years ! Yes, some white bottoms and some prints would be my additions here . As more taupe pieces are found as we get closer to Fall, I might add some burgundy accents for a two toned burgundy and pink look . Or some green pieces .

I love the Jungle Gathering scarf !

Jessie Zhou scarves are just amazing.

Janice,
I find myself intrigued with your “Perfect 10” packing strategy! Just can’t get enough of your thought process to adjust garments in each traveling scenario. Thank you, thank you, from all your minimalist fans!

Another Rothko!!!! Thank you for introducing me to this artist. Houston is opening a showing of his black and whites? Not sure I’ll like as much as the colors but I intend to go check it out.
Taupe is my all time favorite color/neutral.

It appears our friend really leaned into the coral and purchased 3 French 5’s! Wow! I like the pinker side of coral, so I would keep the pointelle sweater, solid scarf, striped shirt, sneaks and try to find a small purse in the pinker side of coral. Or a bead bracelet with silver rather than gold. That would bring it down to 5 pieces but then not enough clothing items for a pack 10. White skirt or skort, jean skirt or skort in the pinker side of coral and a coordinating jean jacket. I do like the sweatshirt but that would not see the light of day until at least November, if I travel to the cold frozen north! Same with the dark pants.
What color is taupe? These pants look like charcoal on my iPad. Same with the Rothko painting. I guess I would have to see it in real life.
I really liked last Wednesday’s set. Perfect colors for me. On my iPad the darkest color in the Inuit scarf looked like navy, so my eyes saw the black pieces as navy. No surprise there!

April in Sugarland,
Taupe is a grayish brown .

I really like combination of peach fuzz and taupe but with a huge caveat. The pants are way too light value for me to be comfortable in. Maybe an A line maxi skirt but no shorts, capris or trousers. Definitely taupe on the bottom.
And I’m not really sure about the peach fuzz with my colouring. It might be too similar to my skin tone and just make my face invisible. I might dip my toe with a tank top and see how it goes.
If I did go for a French five my rose gold jewelry and accessories rather than yellow gold seems more pleasing to my eye. Rose gold is my nude in shoes, handbags, iPhones etc.

Lovely colours, i would love to see if this heroine finds more taupe☺️
I am very drawn to pink corals. Thank you for your packing tips as well. I have found myself going out on a number of unplanned weekends and your practical tips have really helped me a lot this spring. Loved the article on florals, i am an avid gardener who loves flowers, so i do like a pretty floral top from time to time. Cant wait for Fridays email😏
