A new Echo 100 scarf!
We’re Still Going to Go…
Even though the temperature has dropped about 40 degrees Fahrenheit…
She’s sort of caught off guard, for only for a moment! She will start with her new scarf:
While her scarf doesn’t actually INCLUDE brown, she feels like it’s a comfortable addition to the palette – the brown of the animals, the brown of the tree trunks…
And since they’re going to be indoors for most of the time, she’s comfortable packing ivory pants!
Her “thrown together” wardrobe looks pretty good!
Since she packed at SUCH the last minute, she decides that she wants to see lots of outfits…
She could have packed brown pants. Or a red sweater. But she was sticking to just six things in her bag…
love,
Janice
p.s. Ten years ago, I started with a rather Baroque room, to inspire a wardrobe...

I’m always fascinated by the way you create your template using the scarf followed by the colour wheel.
My son gave me a Hermes scarf for my birthday this year. It only has 3 colours, black white and lemon yellow.
I’d like to create a similar presentation to yours, using existing clothes in my wardrobe.
How did you create the colour wheel template?
Janice says
The color wheels are just graphs (well, PowerPoint calls them Charts). For one that’s equal amounts of each color, you put in data like 5,5,5, and then spend hours getting the colors to match just right!
When you’re finished, you can put “PowerPoint Charts” on your resume!

Today is sunny, cold and breezy. Makes me reach for wintery colours again. My take on this would be what I wore yesterday – teal green jumper and teal green cords with burgundy polo neck plus a burgundy and taupe floral scarf. The other day I wore burgundy cords, a burgundy and teal floral top with a pink cardigan (pink was in the floral pattern). I very rarely wear white or ivory.
I love the look back. Please would you revisit this idea for other style decorations. My love of floral, damask, and paisley patterns probably reflects my love of Belle Epoque, Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts Movement.

When this scarf first came through my inbox on my echo email subscription I thought “euwww that has got to be my least favorite scarf yet” I am absolutely astounded at how much I like how you’ve put together a wardrobe from it. Just goes to show. Have a great weekend everyone. Janice – enjoying your instagrams….

Hi Janice,
It feels like CHRISTMAS every time I see your email in my inbox. I get so exciting!! Thank you for sharing your talent and improving my wardrobe.
Sincerely,
Carolyn in Ohio
PS. I am not sure if my hubby feels the same due to my increased spending of some of your prices. Lol

This is such a lovely scarf, and it inspired such a warm, cozy capsule. Brown is not usually a color I choose, but it’s perfect here.

Thanks, Janice, for another great combination of colour and style. The green/berry/ivory mix is right up my street and I’ll be re-organising my wardrobe (again!) to group them together for easy morning decisions – and probably for a trip to London the week after next. Encouraged by a stint of volunteering in a charity shop, I try to get ‘pre-loved’ clothes, and am enjoying discovering what’s out there, on both the high street and eBay.

I have been doing a lot of thrifting and finding pre loved garments in the last couple of years because of a weight loss journey. I have found a really wonderful store online called ThreadUp that has all the designer stuff we drool over here, but at REALLY affordable prices. My favorite J. Crew sweaters and twin sets come from there. And when looking for timeless pieces, that never really go out of style, I find it’s the perfect place to slowly build my wardrobe back up.
And then there was the time I found the most perfect floral top that has all my colors! I swooned! lol.
Here’s to loving pre loved fashion!! Cheers!

ThredUp is brilliant! Selling clothes to them is great, too…

Burgundy with pale green and cream are my current favourites. I love the scarf but unfortunately it’s out of my price range so I will have to keep a look out for a similar and cheaper one. Those green ear rings are cute.

This is one of my top favorites of the Echo 100 scarves. I love nature motifs. I love the colors. Luckily, for my budget, I don’t wear this size/shape of scarf. It’s just feels overwhelming on me. Can’t wait to see the next drop of Echo 100 scarves.

Janice,
I am loving the application of this post to my own wardrobe, with the exception of the red pants, as I am bottom heavy, so substitute brown ones for them instead. And the I would add a toned down warmish red or burgundy cardigan or 1/4 zip pullover . The one ensemble here that I would not wear would be the brown “ twin set” over the ivory pants, for the same bottom heavy reason. Some years back when you did that series on colors and proportions I learned a great deal to personally apply . This inspires a coming up brief travel wardrobe, so thank you !
Janice says
Hurrah! It’s so nice to know that my work is useful!

Janice,
Your posts are always helpful to ferret out what does or does not work for me personally . No matter your chosen color schemes, I always learn something to apply . Mondays, Wednesdays , and Fridays are my favorite online mornings as a result ! Thank you for all of your consistent and varied posts — I adore them all !

big hugs to you – you’ve made my weekend!

So, you flip where the dark and light colors go? Such as coffee brown trousers and a bone/ivory top?
Margo says
It would be nice if you could offer a similar, less expensive scarf for some of these presentations.
I’ve tried repeatedly to do the same idea using scarves purchased on Amazon but they never look like what is pictured.

As always, thank you for my favorite thrice-weekly post! This is a really good one, color wise. I have been looking and looking for a brick/red ochre/burnt orange sweater for a couple of years. Those Deep Rosewood pants had me hoping…alas, quite a bit of other things in that color, but no sweater. Nifty to see what you did with it though, made we rescue my old brown cardigan from my giveaway pile…. I can wear my brick red tee shirt with it! Another garment life saved! I’m sure it’s grateful.
Janice says
OH, I searched for a sweater in the right color – maybe in August, when sweaters are back among us, they will be available! Clothing is always a season ahead of the “real” weather….

Yessssss, something to look forward to…it’s good to always have a quest. Keeps me from buying something I don’t need!

I saw burgundy in the scarf, but I really like how the “rosewood” color looks in this capsule. It’s disappointing that LL Bean doesn’t have a women’s t-shirt or cardigan in this color, but there were some other pieces I could see making it into our heroine’s larger wardrobe.
I really like the scarf (I mean, it’s a nature motif with a RABBIT), but I do think they missed a trick not including a dark neutral in it. On the plus side, you could add it into a wardrobe based on any dark neutral, but on the down side, it doesn’t integrate extremely easily into any dark neutral wardrobe. I like the brown with the color scheme but am slightly dissatisfied with the brown + scarf combo, though I love the scarf with the ivory + olive outfit. If I were set on packing so much brown for my upper half, I would need a different scarf. With this scarf, I would skip the 3 brown tops/toppers and go further with the ivory, olive, and rosewood. This said, I absolutely could see this scarf having a place in our heroine’s overall wardrobe, though it would be a more obviously sensible choice at a lower price point.
Sally in St Paul says
P.S. The rosewood pants + hyacinth leather sneakers are a triumph! What an absolute wonderful pairing. I adore the rosewood color to begin with, but add in those sneakers and…well, if I weren’t on a no buy/low buy plan for 2024, I would be looking at that HARD.
Janice says
I was pretty chuffed when I found the sneakers – I must admit!

I really love the whimsical animals in the scarf.
For anyone thinking about the sneakers, I can attest that the Josef Seibel brand is solid. I own four pairs of JS shoes. They last through a lot! My oldest pair is at least 25 years old and they just don’t look it. I have high arches and the JS shoes give excellent support as well. I hope this helps.
VB from NC says
Thank you, AK, I have been wondering about those shoes; have worn Keen sneakers for years, working at Trader Joe’s…but they’re not exactly elegant, are they? Trip to Edinburgh’s cobbled streets coming up.

Janice this was a beautiful little capsule. Agree with the pants and sneaker color combo. I wear a lot of sneaker type shoes and I’m always thrilled to find a good color for my wardrobe. How marvelous that it is fashionable to wear them with almost anything. Thanks for all you do!

This wardrobe really spoke to me. And I’m a bit surprised. I already wear lots of olive green, some brown, and a bit of dark rust. I do like ivory but I limit it to avoid washing me out. This combo is really wearable for me, right out of my own closet. The post just pulls it altogether. I won’t buy the $$carf, but I may keep my eyes open for a less expensive alternative. This post inspired my outfit yesterday, as your posts often do. Olive pants with brown lace-up ankle boots. Rust-red cotton turtleneck with brown wooden necklace. (Later in the warmer day, an olive tee shirt.) Olive patterned wool hoodie with small gold earrings. I do covet those pretty green leaf earrings, the brown leather and gold necklace and especially the brown Sherpa jacket. I’ll have to restrain myself.
This is a real “ shop your closet” wardrobe for me but I’m surprised at just how many of the links I clicked on to see better. Thanks for a great combo.

Your outfit sounds perfect! The whole point of The Vivienne Files is to show possibilities that may not have been on your radar – wear what you have!
