It’s here, and I’m wearing it! My sweater from Oliver Charles – lovely, comfortable and beautifully well made… Here’s a close-up view:
If you only want to own one sweater (okay, you may want a cardigan too!), this is a pretty good candidate – classic style, luxurious fiber content, neutral color… (this scarf is 100% yak, which is AMAZING…)
I’m going to be wearing my sweater for at least the next 7 days – probably longer, so on Instagram you’ll be able to see what I’m wearing each day. But I have so many ideas about how this sweater can be worn…
I truly believe that you could get married wearing this sweater – pile on pearls and go for it!
Any neutral skirt, and a pretty brooch, and you’re done!
Neutral pants in any color, a fun scarf, some accent stud earrings and you’re good to go!
White or off-white pants are a natural – some taupe accessories are all you need:
Here’s where I will be most days – jeans and a white shirt!
This is sort of what I’m wearing today, with less dazzling jewelry and shoes. My sweater is quite large, which was my intention – perfect to wear over another layer.
Any day you’re headed out and there’s ANY chance that the weather might turn (or that you might run into some toxic air conditioning!), toss this around your shoulders. A contrast color and some texture can turn into an easy 2nd layer…
Sweaters can be useful even in the summer! Here’s another case where riding the bus to the beach house is going to be cold – take your sweater with you to snuggle while you’re riding…
Another weekend wear idea – if you don’t like to travel in shorts! A mix of warm neutrals is effortless…
A casual office? This sweater might be exactly what you need when someone cranks the air conditioning down to the “meat locker” setting:
I’ve only had my sweater on for a few hours, but I’m already seeing the benefits of it; stay in touch and you can see how my love for it grows, or wanes…
love,
Janice

Lovely and so versatile

Love the sweater. I think I can wear that color beige (cool oatmeal/greige?), which is difficult for me to find.

Gorgeous sweater and I love all the outfit ideas. Wish I didn’t look like death in oatmeal colors!

They have some really lovely other colors too. I’m eyeing the blue, gray and sage ones as we speak!
My biggest question, and one that I have always struggled with concerning any wool, is that I have very sensitive skin.
Just how itchy is this???
Janice says
I haven’t worn it against my skin yet, but I think I will tomorrow. I will let everyone know how it goes!

It’s a wonderful idea to own a classic sweater. I would go for charcoal or navy. It’s merely aspirational for me though as a pensioner. That is a hefty price tag.

Never discount the possibility of finding one second hand – the world is full of clothing that some people think they no longer need, but that still have AGES of wear in them… With patience, you could find an older sweater that’s of a quality seldom seen in retail these days. Ebay is a great place to set up some saved searches…

I loved and was inspired by all the possibilities with this sweater; however, a sweater that costs over $300 isn’t realistic for many of us. Suggestions for similar but less expensive sweaters would be so appreciated. And, my goodness, you are a genius at finding accessories!

L.L.Bean regularly carries a cotton cabled sweater – they change up their colors each year, but the sweater is a permanent part of their assortment.

I have two of these sweater – one black, one black & white marl – and I don’t even know how old they are! Maybe 15 years? They’re classic, and nearly indestructible.

Love all these suggestions except maybe the two shirtdresses? And I’m not sure why since I wear shirtdresses. Not sure if I’d get married in it, but I do love the denim skirt. On a side note, the Jessie Zhou blue jungle scarf you featured awhile back… the wool scarf in blue was sold out, but I decided to pick up the double-sided silk scarf. One side in blues and the other side in greens – both of which I wear. Anyway, it arrived yesterday, and it is a stunner. So happy I decided to take the chance. Also – I really enjoyed the video! Thank you for sharing…..

I’ve not yet seen one of her scarves “in the silk,” but I keep hearing raves about them! I’m so glad that they’re lovely – you should have lovely scarves!

Janice

Every single ensemble you presented today is absolutely gorgeous! I having been holding out on any new sweaters as I plan my next sweater purchase to be a cashmere v-neck from Lands’ End in deep sea navy. I just need them to offer that option. 😉 I recall you purchasing a purple crewneck cashmere from them last year, Janice. What did you end up thinking of the quality? Has it held up well?

I inherited a sweater similar to this from my daughter. It is also slightly oversized… I’m going to use these ideas for sure!!

Janice! I saw your video and it was awesome to see and here you after all these years. You are delightful. :) Cheryl :)

Hear not here…typo, lovely lol.

Loved watching the video of you opening the sweater. I’m afraid I would look dead in that colour, and can’t wear any kind of wool, but I love the look of the sweater.
Janice says
I’m either wearing something under the sweater or wearing a scarf with it – oatmeal isn’t necessarily a color that does me any favors, but there are a million ways to work around that! If I’m going to wear more unbleached and undyed colors, I’ve got to be flexible…

That olive Lands End shirt-dress – Luv, Luv, Luv! I just went to the site to buy it and not only did I buy it, but I found they had another just like it in brown (my two main neutrals), AND they were having a sale and I got both of them for under $60 dollars before shipping/tax! Sale ends today, girls (2/28) so go get-em!
